Easy. Because the “professionally” produced Trek is made by people who don’t understand Star Trek (Abrams), people who hate Star Trek (Kurtzman), and people who are pushing an agenda that excludes the human characteristics that made Trek great.

The acting was, I admit, a little bit wooden, but then, so was the the original Star Trek pilot and look how that developed. This was a very good effort by ALL concerned and I applaud them. Well done. As for the CBS nonsense as you call it, what a disappointment that turned out to be.

@@MervynPartin, To be honest, I was thinking that if I was facing such a big problem. I would likely try and see how many cheesy movie lines, That I could use.. Then Poof the actors, start using such lines... I was very impressed.. As When I have faced life and death, I get in such morbid type humor too.. Love it! And the only wooden acting was with the high commander.. Then again, it explains this as he is new to his post. And both have some type of past.. And I have seen real people act like this.. So it may have been meant that way.. Works for me!!!

@@MervynPartin I actually thought it was the opposite of wooden, there were a few mannerisms that seemed out of place for the scene. A head tilt here or an inflection there that were definitely acting just not the way I expected for Star Trek.

Star Trek fan film regulations are friggin' horrible.. "The fan production must be less than 15 minutes for a single self-contained story, or no more than 2 segments, episodes or parts, not to exceed 30 minutes total, with no additional seasons, episodes, parts, sequels or remakes." We can kiss goodbye to stuff like Star Trek Continues :( This episode you did was truly amazing work. I would love to see whole movie or perhaps series. Awesome cast, effects, story.. Everything. Keep in mind that the "film regulations" are more like a set of guidelines. "If you do all these things, we promise we won't sue you,' basically. But if you *don't* do all those things, then the chance of getting sued depends on whether or not CBS/Paramount likes what you did.

@cwam1701e 6 жыл бұрын
@@BrennaUrbangirl Paramount/CBS looked the other way for years and years until Axanar came along, and it wasn't about production values - look at Star Trek Continues - that was studio quality production! So why did it change with Axanar? Because they crossed the line and forced the issue; they were paying themselves a salary earned from the Star Trek IP and building themselves a nice studio from money earned on the ST IP to make future non-ST productions. If Paramount/CBS had let that go they would likely have lost all control over their own IP . Axanar's over-reach ruined it for great productions like Star Trek Continues etc. The fact that they settled out of court showed they knew they hadn't a leg to stand on and now the whole fan production community has these dreadful guidelines to work with. Let's hope it is as SpearM75503 says and Paramount/CBS will be willing to look the other way for most productions as they had done for many, many years before Axanar.

As a long-time fan of Star Trek I have to say in the 52 years it's been around I've been a fan for 41 years, I'd have to say this was a very nice storyline and it brings a conclusion to the story of what happened to the disabled Starship Excalibur from the Federation Fleet that fought the M5 which was aboard the USS Enterprise in the episode ultimate computer from the original series I have to say one of my favorite episodes from the original series as most true fans of the show are aware the other three Starships the Lexington the hood and the potemkin if I'm not mistaken though badly damaged were able to return to base after the M5 incident except for the Excalibur the storyline finally shows how they were able to bring the Lost Starship and her crew home. This was a very nicely done storyline and it's way BETTER than star trek discovery.

You really should check out Star Trek Continues, Vic Mignona (sorry for misspelling his name) drove the best TOS episodes, he wanted to film the last stories from the "five year mission" that were never done, he managed to bring quality and even some pretty major Trek/SF actors on board. The first episodes were fairly rough, but they settled in really well, and he even managed to tie in visually and story-wise with Star Trek The Motion(less) Picture, uniforms and all.

Star Trek: Discovery’ Launch Drives A Record Number Of New CBS All Access Subscribers By Claire Spellberg @c_spellbergSep 25, 2017 at 2:09pm Last night, CBS All Access‘ newest show, Star Trek: Discovery, premiered on the subscription streaming platform to record numbers. A CBS press release states that its service “broke a new record for subscriber sign-ups in a single day, eclipsing the previous record held by the 2017 Grammy Awards.” (Worth noting: The network did not include any specific figures or statistics in their press release, so we don’t know if this means they signed up hundreds, thousands, or even millions of new subscribers.) The service not only beat its single-day record with the launch of Star Trek: Discovery, it also experienced its best week and month for sign-ups, largely due to the popularity of the Star Trek franchise and the start of the NFL season. SEE ALSO What Is CBS All Access? How To Watch 'Star Trek: Discovery' Rather than consider its Star Trek success a one-off, CBS is doubling down on content and launching an after-show titled After Trek. The show will be hosted by Matt Mira, a popular podcast host, and will be broadcast live at 9:30 pm ET each Sunday after new episodes of Star Trek: Discoverybecome available on demand at 8:30 pm. If you’re a Star Trek junkie, you can get CBS All Access for as low as $5.99/month (or $9.99/month if you don’t want commercials). For those looking for something in addition to space exploration, CBS All Access also offers thousands of episodes of CBS classics, live TV options, and plenty of on-demand movies.

Although a huge fan of his work, (if I may use a well-worn analogy) he is several thousand rungs above me on the ladder of success. While I work in paper and tape, acting with family and friends in a small apartment on Long Island, Vic is a true professional, working on expensive sets and acting with the pros, which he is clearly one himself. I know that we both share a love of Star Trek that is universal amongst us all, but your wonderful suggestion has to remain a dream. The main point is that awesome folks like yourself keep the dream alive and make Trek films for all of us to enjoy. No matter the level, our love of Trek is what's important... to boldly go onward as they say. Thanks again for the idea... how cool it is! And thank you very much for saying you enjoy my series as well-- that is veery appreciated! I've been doing this since 1992, and it still means a lot when someone takes the time to say they enjoy my projects.

OK I don’t care what anybody says I thoroughly enjoyed this. I especially enjoyed the dialogue and the jokes. It doesn’t get any better than space zombies!! As for the acting I didn’t have a problem with it as a matter of fact I appreciate it when people are real. We don’t need polished pros. We just need passionate Star Trek fans. I actually prefer real people to Hollywood actors in fan films. As an aside I was sorry to see the character of captain Mason die in The Avalon episode (sorry for the spoiler). What happened? his character was great. Hopefully rumors of his demise are greatly exaggerated.

A wonderful little fan film. You certainly deserve all the praise you're going to get for it, and I think everyone involved should be pleased with their work! That said, I'd like to offer some thoughts on what didn't work. Please keep in mind these comments are meant constructively, coming from someone who overall enjoyed the production. BUT... I want to see you do more, and do it better, and so this is made in the spirit of what I hope will be useful commentary... The first thing that strikes me is that Mason is attacked by a zombie, beats it back, and then is called to engineering by Archer. At no point does Mason say, "THIS SHIP IS FULL OF ZOMBIES!" He replies calmly that he is coming down, and doesn't at all mention what happened. There's no way he wouldn't be screaming about that over coms after it happened. Later, mention is made of venting energy through the nacelles. As one of them is missing, that should have been something like, "We can vent it through the REMAINING nacelle." Almost makes me think that it wasn't until after principal photography that someone in SFX decided to cut a nacelle off. Still, little things like that take you out of the moment. The section with the movie quotes.... I'm sorry, that was just awful. Aside from the fact it referenced movies people are unlikely to have seen a couple of centuries from now, the delivery was just horrible. Acting isn't easy. A good fan production is lucky to have all involved pull of the delivery of serious lines, but comedy is even harder. That part just really feel flat. Humor is very difficult to write, and act... maybe tone it down on the next production. The last quibble is the phaser fire. The SFX team did they best they could, but the actors were frequently waving their phasers about, and the SFX had to compensate for that. They did a good job, but it really didn't feel like Trek there. Canon Trek productions almost always have officers holding the phaser steady for the duration of a shot. It's easier on the FX team, and it makes it look like they are firing with authority, and not desperation. Again, these are comments made by someone who liked what you did, and hopes to see more. I'm not quibbling to be a jerk, or nit-picking just to be negative. I'm saying this because praise is great to have, but only serious commentary helps one do better the next time.

Shank, Disclaimer: I am only an actor in this production, not a member of the production team. Any opinions expressed by me are solely my own and do not necessarily reflect those of the controlling entities of this film. Now that we got that outta the way... Thanks for all the feedback! I’m Tyler Dunivan, I play Commander Derek Mason. On using 20th/21st century pop culture references: The humorous tone in this film is meant to be similar to that of “The Orville”, in which the Captain talks about Kermit the Frog, crew members Karaoke to “Any Way You Want It” by Journey and “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, and a Klingon type character eats ice cream as “comfort food” while watching a scene from “The Sound of Music”. In Babylon 5, the Chief Security Officer had a poster of Daffy Duck on the wall in his quarters and is shown introducing an alien ambassador to the tradition of eating popcorn while watching a movie. Pulling back on the humor for future productions would be untrue to the production team’s vision (I don’t necessarily speak for them, just my own assessment) of telling engaging adventure stories with a bit of drama, while making the audience laugh by not taking it too seriously. Please try to enjoy it for what it is. Thank you again for the extensive commentary. You said you only take time on things you care about, and that’s a huge compliment. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the next one!

@@sphinxrising1129 "other people's property" doesn't derive its value from *decades of fans' hard work*. If it was left up to the corporate "owners" Star Trek would never have survived to its very first syndication, nobody would ever have heard of it, and its current value would be zero. Every person making a good living from Star Trek is doing so on the backs of fans' free labor. Comparisons to "other people's property" prove nothing except that you're too lazy to do your homework before you open your mouth... and accomplishes nothing but losing the respect of everyone within the reach of your voice.
