Tobias, you are saying what I always suspected. I'm the same age as you, and I too discovered Helloween in my youth and they had the same positive, uplifting effect on me. I was listening to a lot of angry metal at the time - death metal and such, and they were like the light in my darkness. I fell a little bit in love with Kiske, and I still adore his voice to this day. You are also one of the most admirable metallers I know - for creating Avantasia and turning it into such a success. If you ever read this, lets say I wanted to be a vocalist because of Michael too, but I just didnt do it. But seeing you two, the best composer of the last 20 years and my favorite singer ever, it is amazing. I saw you at Sonisphere's Madrid in May, finally, and it was great. If you come in four years time, unless I am dead, I will be there, or maybe even if I am dead.

Avantasia is one of the main reasons I'm going to Bloodstock this year, if Kiske is there it would be amazing... And if he sang Eagle Fly Free with the Avantasia band I would totally cry tears of man joy!

Actually, the very first Power Metal's vocalist was Kiske,he define a school of how to sing the Power Metal, and after of more than 20 years no one can compare on his contribution in this way... also, you can list a lot of vocalist who was trying (or still try) to copy him. Is ok if you don't like his voice, subjectively, but you aren's saying that, you're putting adjetives against him without any base except for your slant, trying to look objetive, but objectively he is such an amazing singer.

Avantasia is one os the most inspiring albuns I've ever listened to, and finding you, Michael Kiske and Andre Matos on the same album was such a dream that became true. Keep up the good work with Avatasia and If could suggest for the next album, add Russell Allen and Michael Vescera too. I understand that and can respect that. The problem I have is that people are always like "Tobias is a terrible vocalist, Kiske rules" They always put Kiske first, when I can think of ten vocalists off the top of my head that are so much better. There's a difference between who influences you, and who you think are good vocalists. Tobias is influenced by Kiske, but Kiske's not the best. I'm influenced by Tobias, but I think Jonny Tatum (Eumeria) is among the best out there.

I somewhat agree with your general opinion. Fans just love to idolize musicians and especially vocalists. Most well known singers are considered "gods" by their fans (Ozzy, Dickinson, Hetfield). Certainly some deserve the title more than others, but phrases like the ones you mentioned are far fetched. On the other hand, Sammet's technique and current range can't be compared to Kiske's. Additionally Kiske's tone is much stronger and he is generally a "better" vocalist. Though tastes differ.

You will always have people less worthy than others worshiped like gods, for various reasons. It is a human flaw I suppose. About Kiske, even Sammet himself considers him an incredible vocalist and praises him (even on this video) every chance he gets. He was also Sammet's main influence...just something to think about.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the first part. ZP Theart (ex-Dragonforce) is worshiped, yet he couldn't sing to save his life. As for the technical side, how is Tobias not a better vocalist? His range is much more dynamic than Kiske's, and he has a LOT more power on all notes, including the high ones. Just because he doesn't sing these high-pitched clean notes, that doesn't mean he's not a good vocalist. In fact, I think powerful high notes sound much more impressive.

He was a better vocalist in the early days, used mostly head voice, but yes, I agree, after 2004 he started implementing chest voice therefore resulting in raspier voice. However his voice prior to 2004 was angelic, and he had more range than Kiske (as a matter of fact, he still does)

Perhaps you 're right, but I have never heard anything lower than Eb2 from Sammet (at least noteworthy and solid).

Let's just agree to disagree. Kiske's lower range is much stronger and impressive (his E2's and G2's for example are much more solid). Additionally his phrasing, switches and use of range is much better. Surely Sammet is more powerful in his mid to high range, but power is not the most important aspect in singing. Finally Sammet's recent live output is very messy and inconsistent. But as mentioned before tastes differ and that is perfectly understandable.

Surely there are many vocalists that can't sing nothing but are worshiped by their fans, that was my point. Dickinson is one of the better most known singers, Dio as well. Technically Sammet is not a better vocalist, I simply can't agree with that. Especially today he sings in a strange raspy manner, especially on the highs. His tone sounds "strange" to me.

If we're going to 'agree to disagree', then why try to continue attempting to justify Kiske as being some sort of incredible vocalist? I know that I definitely like power like Tobias has more than the wimpy, yodel-like vocals that Kiske uses. I really have little against his voice (other than that yodel thing). I'm just irritated as how people worship him as some god of power metal, when I know for a fact that Tobias has made bigger, better contributions to metal in general.

I have nothing against Michael, or even his voice (except that over-fast vibrato that gets kind of annoying). What irritates me is when people practically worship him as some sort of god. I don't even mind people APPRECIATING his voice, as I do. I just get so sick of the people basically saying he's the best vocalist of all time and all of that. IMO, Tobias has a more dynamic, and frankly, better voice, and he's inspired me much more than Kiske ever did in my own singing.

That's the thing, you can be the best technical vocalist in the world, but if you can't transmit feelings through your voice, you're worthless as a singer in my opinion. It's a disease that sadly affects a lot of modern jazz singers.

Hetfield can't sing worth nothing. :P Ozzy's not an incredible vocalist either. However, I do find Dickinson to be pretty good. ;) Sammet has a E♭2-E6 range, and I rarely hear Kiske sing anything but a yodel-like high-pitched notes all the time, which gets on my nerves. Dynamics-wise, Sammet, without a doubt, is the better vocalist.
