This movie is absolutely outstanding from an artistic perspective, it has to be one of the most underrated movies of the last few decades. It´s just one brilliant scene after another. For a movie populated by spiritually depraved, decadent, borderline soulless characters, it is so strangely touching and poignant. It´s one of three movies (the others being Requiem For A Dream and Spring Breakers) that I can watch over and over and never tire of, always finding new meaning in. People that find this movie ´shallow´ or ´empty´ are completely missing the deeply meaningful themes of alienation, disconnection, miscommunication, isolation, selfishness verging on psychopathy, etc which the movie highlights in American culture. Well done Avary, well done.

I think it’s good too. Although I do have one major or with it. I feel as if there really isn’t any character development in it. I felt it could have explored more of Lauren and Shauns relationship more.That really brought the movie down for me, but there’s just so many moments sprinkled throughout the film that i think are absolutely BRILLIANT. And the soundtrack is amazing. The styled the film is also amazing. It’s so faced paced and full of energy that it’s hard to hate it. Overall I think the film is above average. I’ll have to watch it again. My opinion of it will probably change by then. Idk. But I’m glad you liked it. It is an overlooked film

@@Tagsjeusnrgj1235 Im not sure that was an accident......I mean its about three main characters who are kind of lost in college life. They might not really have any major development at that point in their lives. They took like a typical college party movie, used an amazing baseline(the book), and created a really cool and interesting movie. It could have ended in some bullshit American Pie-esque college crap, but because of the incredible original, they made it into something so much more. Feelings portrayed through visuals and not only speech isnt that easy to get really good. People can do it, just not to such a degree that I feel this flick does.

How this movie isn't a cult classic is beyond me. It's fun AND so ambitious, like De Palma movies.
@6scar911 Жыл бұрын
It truly is! I first watched it around my senior year of HS in 2013 and I keep coming back to it. I even got the book and it's crazy how faithful it is to it.

This and and Donnie Darko are the type of movies which seem superficial at first sight but are one of the most complex and multifaceted movies ever made. The rules of attraction has enough material to fill college classes for a full semester. This movie has a special place in my heart cause I did an all-nighter for my final exam and I had this movie on loop in the background 😅

Even tho it’s one of my favorite movies, as my great childhood friend that passed away before he turned 21 introduced it to me as it was his fav film so we’d watch it all the time. (I was 13, he was 17) Still think a redo would make another great film and one for its time.

this movie and GO are so great because there's so much going on and there's these great moments that are dark hilarious and oh soooo very of that time. i love the cast! i think this is one of those films that use time in reverse and several character perspectives going on at the same time perfectly. 10 out of 10

Was it Patrick Bateman calling Sean during the attempt at suicide?
@avary7 жыл бұрын
No. It was Jean-Jacques, Bertrand's brother. However, if you watch the scene with A Junkie Named Marc, just after when Sean is walking down the hallway he's heading straight for the payphone to call Patrick and ask for money. That's where the first Patrick Bateman scene in Rules of Attraction was before it was removed (for reasons of length).
