Your reviews are superb... I totally agree with everything you mentioned regarding Avast, their marketing tactics and the lack of data collecting opt out during the installation period. The lack of option to opt out during the installation blatantly allows them to collect preliminary 'unspecified data' from your system to share with 'unspecified (random) third-party's up until the point that you finally disable it, by which point they've probably already collected all they needed. Why would anyone choose to trust a company that operates in such a way? Its laughable to think that people will specifically install virus and security software to prevent third parties (known or unknown) from sniffing around their systems collecting data, only to have Avast do exactly that. You touched on transparency which is something which is quite important if anyone is expected to trust Avast and many like them. I'd love to know why Avast and companies like them can't be more transparent and specific about the exact information they collect. If its nothing dodgy, and its merely anonymous statistical information where's the harm in factually stating that information in plan sight? Also, who are these third-parties they share our anonymous information with. It would be nice to have that information in plan site too, especially as the data they collect could be getting used or purchased by organisations that I want no association with for my own moral reasons. I agree that the need to generate money for their work, but those deceptive banners, links and offers of gifts that amount to nothing more than spam like links to their premium content is nothing more than deceptive shit. IObit software is another culprit for doing that sort of BS as well..

Great vid, just subscribed, I'm a newbie and don't know much about computers. Saw a previous Avast vid of yours and held my breath and clicked download. I was shocked with the redirects and other programs it downloaded and quickly tried to back out. I have a Dell 15 1050 laptop about 2010. I have Office 365, while talking to an Indian tech, they seem smart, he told me Microsoft Essentials Security would be good for me, it hardly ever finds anything. I was wanting to try something else to make sure. Should I try HitmanPro to double check things, will I get flooded with other things from them too.

Thank you so much. I have come to the same conclusions regarding Avast. Everytime the screen comes up saying ARE YOU HAPPY WITH AVAST, I want to let them know how far they have fallen from being one of the best free Anti Virus softwares that I USED TO highly recommend to what they are currently. Before anyone downloads Avast they should watch this video. It is kind of like Windows 10. Sure it has some good qualities but what about the constant Spam and invasion of privacy? Avast is probably one of the most annoying but best free antiviruses out there.

I hate ads that try to trick you into thinking it isn't an ad. If it is a commercial on TV that is one thing, but when it is a program on a computer and part of the program or webpage and appears to be telling you to interact with it to fix a problem, I am 100% against that. To me, that should be called "malware" or a new term like "Baitware" or "LieWare" or "ShiftyLinks". Why would you want to trust a sponsor that is tricking you? I guess the average person who would click those links and end up paying for something, are the type of people who likely need a lot of help with how to use a computer, but I still feel like it is lying to the user.

Totally agree the opinion about Avast. I am a user as well and Avast is very desperate (aggressive) with the pop up to get another program sold. Telling that you have threat or slow computer or outdated software and so on, This is not true most of the time. Money, money and money.

i use avast if i cant score eset nod32 during black friday. i scored nod32 last night 1yr for $6 so went with it. nod32 is by far the best lightest av i ever used. however, if i had to go with free..definitely avast

Hi Leo, Interesting review I think this is a common practice with these software enhancements improving your system it's a scare tactic in order for you to but their product. I also think they have places where you can keys for these products to use full version and than the keys become invalid causing to go back to a free version teasing you buying a full version. Avast and AVG seem to be the two that are doing this implementing watchdog software eyeing your system. Both of these products just happen to be from the Czech Republic, but other companies are becoming more like this Bitdefender, Total Security 360 all give your information to third parties and are free to use all give you a time of free usage of a full version to get later to buy it. This to me is another form of spying on people they of course are not going to tell you that, but that is what it is. Who knows what there really doing with this information. Thanks for the review and by the way in the full version of Avast, doesn't include the sandbox feature? If I'm not mistaken.

cake reboot If the website is malicious itself (has malicious scripts) then avast will block it. If the program is malicious then it will block it when it's downloaded or when it's run (it won't be able to do any damage before avast detects it)

Thank you for at least acknowledging Hardened mode in your test..............PEOPLE (Avast haters) please realize that adjusting 2 settings on this AV will leave u with some of the Highest protection available, Hardened Mode (aggressive) and PUP.IF YOU NASTY: Set HIPS to aggressive and under web shield warn when downloading files with a poor reputation. I'm an extremely high risk user and I have never been let down with these configurations.

Avast is actually very good and i like using it on multiple PC's. It has great self defense, good detection and a lot of advanced features that don't cost anything. The problem of avast is ofcourse avast, the ads, the price saving, the browser bundles, and the bloat in general. So my personal recommendation goes to business.avast.com, its also free this time managed from a website and there are absolutely no ads. You get an e-mail if a PC is infected to. All in all a great product if your looking for all the benefits of avast without that horrible mess that comes bundled with the consumer version.

It's really sad to see an AV product display itself exactly like the type of malware it's supposed to protect people from, banners saying "Your PC can be optimized!" or "You have won...!" are the most common and generic malware traps so seeing it inside an actual AV product kills my soul a bit (Won't this backfire by convincing less computer-savvy people that those banners might be legit since it's also in their own protection software?). I had a similar kind of feeling when Malwarebytes changed the visual design of their removal tool but that was nothing compared to this, this is going way overboard.

Upto 2013 version autosandbox was enabled in Avast free version I liked that a lot; now you have deepzone, but it didn't convince me so I switched over to 360 Security which is free, multi engine and also has a sandbox feature: a missed chance Avast!

Been using Avast Free Anti Virus for Mac last years version and this years version. Last years made my mac really sluggish and the newer one is better, but it's still annoying. I've been using Bitdefender Total on my PCs and just found out that Mac users can get the Bitdefender paid Anti Virus ans part of that. It's so much better, I feel like I've got the performance back. Everything is snappy again. I'm grateful because it's harder to pick a competent anti virus on the mac. From someone you can trust, that also doesn't impact your performance. There's less demand so I don't think they put as much effort it to get the performance right. You shouldn't have to lose performance just because you have to protect your computers from outsiders.

Not sure I trust Avast any more. After using the free software for a bit, I bought the internet security upgrade. They had a cheap deal for 3 years, which I took. Then today, only 6 months later, the Avast icon in the system tray had a red cross on it. I clicked it and it said my licence had expired. I clicked on the upgrade, and then the already purchased option and re-entered my licence key, that seemed to work. BUT now, I just received an email saying my subscription has been cancelled and I need to renew, yet the program is showing 913 days left, so I don't know what is going on.

they are taking you from behind with no lubricant. I bought the security upgrade, one pc one year, and they said it was an offer. They charged me almost twice the amount they said they would. Then almost a year later they say to me on email that they will charge me for a new year. I tried to cancel the automatic renewal but it did not work so I had to get a new credit card in order to prevent them from stealing my money. I feel ashamed that I got fooled online.. Fuck Avast

Well if they're not using lub, I sure hope they are using protection :-) I think I might know what's up with my subscription. I actually started off with a 1 year licence and then later they said upgrade the remaining time to 3 years at a special price, which I did. Maybe it's been a year now and the 1st licence expired. BUT they shouldn't be saying I need to renew and then directing me to the store where I need to pay again. So far, despite the email, it's still working and I haven't been charged anything new.

You have copied killswitch.exe to your desktop only. this way you have stripped it from the Dr whole dlls and other files that killswitch needs eg to perform a rating of running processes. you can make a shortcut on the desktop to killswitch and keep the whole CCE folder somewhere else.

doOM D3SIR3 Voodooshield came really close with 99.97 detection ratio. But it isn't really an antivirus, it is considered a computer lock. You should check it out.
