Even if the writer is the creator of a character, to be honest, you have to look at the most significant feats under the most stress. Kora, clearly the more aggressive of the two is no where near as aggressive as Fire Lord Ozai. Aang's strength is in his defense. He has always used the minimal necessary power to stop aggression. This doesn't make him less capable. Aang's emotional intelligence is the best advantage he has over Korra.

I feel like the battle would depend entirely on the situation. If the battle was anything but quick I’d say Aang takes a win since he’s better at strategy. If it’s tight quarters and quick Korra might have the upper hand. It’s essentially two #1 ranked players that use different play styles. I never did understand if they were referring to the characters in their respective shows, them in their prime, or even if they would be at the same age when fighting. This is important, as Aang was I think at most 12 when his series ended, whilst Korra started off as 17. Korra also was raised learning to fight with elements her whole life, and Aang had less than a year to learn all the bending forms with no real combat training. Aang is the better avatar, but in the context of a fight, I think it's important to know at what point each of them are at in their lives.

Korra is a character who was taught she was the Avatar from a VERY young age (even younger than Aang) and also grew up with the stories of Aang and friends saving the world. So of course she thinks she has to be this hero figure who carries the world on her shoulders. She has a bravado to her, which is her way of keeping herself confident, instead of being crushed under the weight of it all. Through the show, she learns to not limit herself to just being the avatar, and that she’s allowed to just be a person, too. That sounds like a fan fiction to you? I’d say Korra’s battle style is more powerful and she has more martial knowledge but Aang is the perfect counter for her. Korra is the type to rush into a fight while Aang normally avoids conflicts which shows in his fighting style. So in the start of the battle Aang may be a bit outmatched but since he is more fluid and lighter on his feel he would be able to dodge and deflect a majority of her blows as well as land a few hits. In the long game he would outlast her and his more creative use of bending techniques would allow him to win the battle. korra's spiritual prowess was way better than aang. Aang made friends with literally one spirit while korra learned to spirit bend, bent spirit energy, Could astral project, both to the physical and spiritual worlds, and became the first avatar to bend in the spirit world. So that literally cant be the reason why korra's avatar state seemed powerful. That's why i believe it was because of how modernized her time was. Korra was raised to in a more modern time when fighting, and always had to keep surrounding structures and people in mind when she was fighting. Even when she was growing up people often scolded her for being too reckless with her bending. So it makes sense that korra, even subconsciously would limit herself even when she went into the avatar state. I believe even a cocreator of the shows also stated that korra has the power to destroy a city with her avatar state, but even they said, like im essentially saying right now, for korra's time period **that's not a good use of power**

@@combatsportlover6919 I think the writers meant them to be more dangerous but as far as I can tell from what was shown they were not in terms of Ozai having access to an entire nation to fight Aang and being a powerful bender who was able to show massive displays of strength including nearly burning down the entire Earth Kingdom to the ground. On the other hand the show shows a blood bender that can blood bend outside of the full moon that can take away peoples bending. In theory Amon would be stronger than the fire lord Ozai but it doesn’t come across that way when you watch the show largely because Amon beats Korra several times with ease. It just makes Korra look weak not make him look stronger. It’s the same with Korra’s avatar state. We see Aang use it to display massive power effectively wielding all four elements simultaneously. When we see Korra use it she looks like a child throwing a tantrum and is easily defeated nearly every time she enters the avatar state. The writers basically did a bad job at making the power differences clear or having Korra fight enemies in a way that made her seem powerful and capable. The first season alone made Korra a sheltered child who couldn’t master air bending. Her status as Avatar was constantly challenged politically. She lost fights to non bender chi blockers, she was scared of Amon, and she was beaten by Amon multiple times including in the finale before she acquired air bending and this weakness set the tone for the rest of the show and it never let up. By the end of her series she had PTSD, was battered relentlessly, poisoned, lost connection with the old Avatars incarnations, and narrowly beat Kuvira in one on one combat who was nothing but a skilled metal bender up against the avatar who herself could bend metal. In other words Korra was such a poor fighter that despite having access to all four elements and specialized forms of bending such as metal bending and water bending healing which is a major advantage she still could barely keep up with a single skilled bender whether that was Amon, Kuvira, or Zaheer and even then she had plenty of help from allies and Republic city.

Similarly to how many styles of mma would beat more traditional styles more often than not. 💁‍♂️ Ultimately it's like Stan says, the script writers decide who they want to win. Plus just whether its young Aang or Adult Aang would be a drastic difference in who would win, as would which Korra is used. Mid show Korra or end of show Korra. Some individuals seem to believe it increases over time. as a carry over from when Roku explains it in last airbender. I dont think this model really holds any weight though when looking through evidence outside of this specific quote, of which has aged poorly given how his other explanation of a 1000 avatars has aged. (2) The more accepted idea that past lives add experience over time, leading the avatar with the most past lives to be the more powerful one. However I once again disagree with how this model has been used. Whilst I agree that Aang used elements that he otherwise didnt know, it wasnt really used for advanced tactics and if anything he seemed more like a rage-filled monster than an all-knowing avatar. I instead think the main benefit is that he kinda had a library in him and given enough time could have a conversation and gain insight without the need to ask experts in his world today. Regardless, for idea (2) to also have any weight, Korra must get weaker from seasons 2 to seasons 3, with the removal of her past lives. There was no commentary on this point, it seems to me to be more a tragegy from a historical perspective than a power one. However this 2nd theory is what distinguishes myself from say Antoine. Where Antoine gives more weight to the past lives experience part of the avatar than i do. This is a very brief summary of my viewpoints, id obviously need to back it up with evidence, but that might take a while. Either way, I hope it makes somes sense

Korra is naturally a more versatile avatar. Aang almost always falls back on his airbending, and when available he’ll sometimes use water or earth, but mostly just air. Korra has shown a great level of skill in all elements. @@mattpassos5689 Aang didn’t have control of his avatar state, that was the other avatars doing the work for him. You can see his control better in flashbacks in Korra, so I don’t think the avatar state would make much of a difference since he’s unlikely to just let the others take over again.

@@mattpassos5689 I mean, the difference in avatar state ability is massive. Aang blocked amped fire, while korra blocked a beam that blew a hole in a mountain if I remember. And she held it sustained in the avatar state. Without past avatar guidance. Now I’m actually thinking it’s more 7/3 korra favor.

@@Bxyxox you can't go based off flashbacks because it was only glimpses of his power thats the deciding factor they both will tap into the state but he was way better with the state and more mature more composed he would stop her from killing him 8/10..not to mention he could just take her bending away

If they both grown in their prime he beats her easily 70-80% of the time and thats being generous...he was smarter, more creative, and a better avatar she can't do anything to stop him from takin her bending let alone fight a grown aang head up 🤦🏽‍♂️ thats just illogical even for a anime/cartoon

Interview doesn't really matter to me. Sometimes creators speak without even thinking, and some words intended as a joke would plunge the fandom into war. 😂. In any case. As for me. i would only stick to *facts* , stick to what is "canon". Their characteristics. Their feats. Their strong and weak points. And the condition.
