I already imagined that Korra would cause the destruction of the world, she made several bad decisions, leaving countless enemies with the bend, and even alive, despite the crimes committed. Korra wasn't a good Avatar, ok, it doesn't matter if you're a fan or a hater of Korra, she didn't know how to be a good Avatar, period. Now, I thought that the next story would actually show the new Avatar having to correct Korra's mistakes, learning from herself not to repeat her mistakes from her previous life, although I didn't think about a post-apocalyptic world. This could be phonetically fantastic or a melodic nightmare. Because it is A CHANCE to correct all the errors in Korra's Story, not only in the character, but also in the script, which from beginning to end was disappointing. A failed heroine who seeks to redeem herself, a villain using evil to achieve the greater good, or giving hope in a world without her. It's something we all urgently need today. Avatar is a critique of our own world, we are at a decisive moment of evolution or death, living in dystopia. These two could be the redemption or destruction of the franchise. NOTE: I hope they don't turn them into bad stereotypes like Korra.

How would the two Avatars reincarnate? Would they come back as twins again, or reincarnate as two different people and be soulmate enemies of order and chaos?
@Akiram144513 күн бұрын
I feel like either option could work well. If it's always twins, that doesn't mean it has to happen every generation. They could say that Vaatu takes time to "recharge" after being defeated if they still want to mix it up for the next series after. It only being twins the first time, then splitting into two separate Avatar cycles gives also seems like it would lead to some interesting stories, like having their ages end up out of sync. I'd love to see stuff like an older Avatar finding a child Dark Avatar and trying to raise them not to be evil.
@WCLCooke13 күн бұрын

@twocents750913 күн бұрын
@@WCLCooke good questions, if I had to guess what the “logic” is here I think it be something like: Korra absorbed two spirits, so when she died they were still stuck together, so raava/vaatu went to find a new “host” to be the avatar while they were still fused. They then inhabited a zygote or whatever (not entirely sure when raava actually inhabits the new avatar), and then the dual nature of raava and vaatu forced a split to create twins, one with raava and the other with vaatu. Once these two avatars die, raava and vaatu will be separate and able to inhabit whoever rather than the same being.

Avatarist, I do think this show has the potential to be interesting and I’m all for giving most of the potential elements in these leaks a chance, but the twin Avatar thing gives me pause. And it’s more than just the fact that there hasn’t been an established precedent for the avatar in the series previously. One thing that is referred to as Samderson’s Second Law of Magic is my main misgivings about the idea of a twin Avatar set. The law itself says that when writing a magic system, establishing what your magic CANNOT do is more important than what it can do. It can make the magic system more interesting and complex if you establish what the system is not capable of, and allow the characters to manipulate the magic system within those confines. Toph’s ability to metalbend and bloodbending are good ways that doesn’t break the bending system, but allows it to be more versatile. And while Korra (especially season 2) pushed the envelope a bit and offered exceptions to the established rules set in ATLA, it tries it’s best not to break the magic system’s rules that were firmly established in the original show. I just worry that the twin avatar idea might be the straw that breaks the magic system’s back. The writers, if they do intend to use this idea, have to think very carefully on how they want to establish this idea in the world that makes it so it is a plausible possibility that could exist. It’s an interesting idea to be sure, but I worry that unless they make a good enough case for why it can exist within the magic system, it might make the world and characters less compelling. But that is just my thoughts on the issue, they could surprise us and I would love to be proven wrong.

@@SiriusGalilei I agree 100%. I'm all for all of these ideas in the leaks, bring it on, but I do not believe both twins being the avatar or splitting the avatar works at all. Sounds cool, could be fun and interesting, but breaks established lore and could cause the whole franchise to unravel

@josephguiste9465 it wasn't split though, it gave her some of its essence to keep her alive. It didn't split itself. She just gave it back. Nice try though. There was so much potential for the future of the world with new wars, states, identities, ideologies etc and they just threw all of that in the bin. @oranguman936013 күн бұрын
It’s not gonna be good.
@Jbluejake7 күн бұрын
(sigh) The setting doesn’t decide how good the stories are that we can tell. It’s the writing. Any issue with telling new stories in the Four Nations is a problem with Writing, not the setting. What, we really think we wasted all the good stories we could tell in the world of the Four Nations already? It’s a planet with massive continents and places we haven’t even seen yet. Settings in other franchises, places like Metropolis and Gotham City for DC Comics, they’ve been used for telling stories for almost 100 irl years now and we’re still getting good stories in those settings. I don’t have a problem with them nuking everything and starting with something new, they can do whatever they want and I couldn’t stop them so why bother. It’s when people say that bland and repetitive stories are caused by the setting still being the Four Nations, when in reality, repetitive and stale stories are almost ALWAYS caused by the writing… that’s where I draw the line. What, do we really think that big AAA game they’re making for Avatar is just going to rehash everything we’ve already seen? According to this logic, yes. It’s in the Four Nations, so that’s what will happen, right? Anything we ever do now with the Four Nations from now and until the end of time will just rehash Aang and Korra, right? Um, no. And what’s the point of using this new setting so we can tell “newer, fresher, and better stories” if all we’re going to do is rehash Kyoshi’s story but with twins? And do we genuinely, honestly, wholeheartedly believe that EVERY SINGLE AVATAR since Wan did the exact same things, had the exact same stories, and did everything that happened in ATLA over and over again for literally 10,000 years?? Of course not. C’mon guys, the setup is there. Just use it! You won’t alienate the majority of your audience that way

My only gripe with this new series is that its convolution with the main source of inspiration for the show. An avatar is a reincarnation of a single soul. Both in dharmic religions, which is where the show even got its name from to even the storyline of the show. I can not see how they will explain a single soul being reincarnated into two different bodies in the same lifetime. Without contradiction in every way possible

If you know how the Avatar reincarnation cycle works, it's really not that hard to figure out how two avatars can exist ... Because we already had two avatars at the same time. In Avatar, the Avatar is a human who is the vessel of Raavaa, the light spirit. If the human dies, Raavaa inhabits the next human. Thus, a new Avatar is born. In LoK, the Dark Avatar was introduced, who is a human who inhibits Vaatu, the dark spirit. Vaatu got sealed away, so no reincarnation for him. How Vaatu gets freed and why he takes over a twin? Well, that's to be seen. But it very likely has to do with the reason, why the world went to shit. It's really not that hard to come up with an explanation, so it's hard to understand, why you are unable to see any of that.

"hating just to hate" "has a solid chance of being something good" How to put this... Imagine if Amazon suddenly decided 'The Boys' was over, they're gunna make some tweaks behind the scenes, and then this new series is gunna be PG. Even if it was a cinematographic masterpiece, it still wouldn't fit. Obviously Avatar has been a kids show from the beginning. HOWEVER in their own words the entire premise of the show was that it and it's characters were supposed to evolve with the times. To a great degree, Korra did the same by employing young adult characters to fit an audience that by the time was much older than they had been. Now it's fine to tell any story you want. And to obliterate all established history, sure, who cares. But it's another thing entirely that this is seeming to be one of the youngest targeted installments of the series, which I know I personally am incredibly dismayed over. Maybe I'll be surprised. Maybe even pleasantly. Probably not though.
@alicemadden13 күн бұрын
The issue is that we don't know a single thing about any of it. For all we know those concept arts are the first few minutes of the show taking place in a flashback before we do a time skip. Imagine if the first scene of Korra got leaked and it was her as a toddler and everyone freaked out thinking the whole show was going to be taking place as her being a toddler. We just don't know any details about anything right now. This is why leaks are bad.
@BestAnimeFreak5 күн бұрын
"Imagine if Amazon suddenly decided 'The Boys' was over" False analogy. Neither ATLA nor LoK randomly ended without a conclusion. It's more like, the final season of The Boys ends (which will be next season) and after that, they start a spin-off which is PG. Even though we have absolutely no idea if the new show is going to be PG ... and considering The Boys is 18+ and LoK was 12+ at most ... still a bad analogy. "Even if it was a cinematographic masterpiece, it still wouldn't fit." Really? Deadpool 2 did it. Two versions. Rated M and Rated PG. And it worked ... "Now it's fine to tell any story you want. And to obliterate all established history, sure, who cares." Except literally nothing in the leaks is even hinting at any of what you just said. Which means you are throwing in baseless assumptions and assertions, because you don't like the setting ... which is post-apocalyptic. So obviously a lot of stuff changed, but the history stays the same. Similar how stuff changed from ATLA to LoK. "But it's another thing entirely that this is seeming to be one of the youngest targeted installments of the series" Maybe. Maybe not.

As others have said, it feels like fanfic. It also feels like it's a cashgrab. My favorite series have known when to end it. LoK did turn out well (imo), but it was pushing it. Continuously adding to something does not automatically make it better. I also don't like how it's just pushing more hate towards Korra. I really liked the show, but a lot of people consider it a flop and have deemed Korra the "worst avatar." They have to know that this will only direct more disdain towards that work.

When you’re a diehard fan, and you’ve gone this long without any new content on top of the heat korra got, I have an entire notepad dedicated to how I imagined the evolution throughout the world of avatar, and in those notepads, I definitely included the possibility of twins. In my notes I have a version of the military except with the new info of how people become avatars I timeskipped to an era which many avatars were born but some could only control 1 to 2 or maybe three elements at a time and they would have to work together in order to create really cool combos, those able to control all four and at least one of the special elements would be seen as generals or captains. There’s no telling where the story will go, and given the level of control these guys have fought to have over their stories, i can’t wait to see what they’ve been sitting on all these years ❤🎉 10:38 I mean not everyone’s read the comics, a there’s a big enough gap between viewers who might not even know there’s comics. And that's an issue how? They can still take what your suggesting and make it so that one twin is a prodigy of all 4 elements and is able to create new sub elements while the other's still capable of doing the same just at a slower pace compared to her sister. Also let's they both create a new sub bending category we could see one use it in a more offensive way vs a deffensive way of bending. We could even see one or both come up with new techniques for the og four like fire healing or an Earth version of blood bending that doesn't includimg al8ving host but a golem created by the bender. The possibilities are endless with them going in this direction.

Ehhh, still don’t like it. What’s the point of the previous two shows constantly saving the world if they just go and destroy all of it anyway. It just feels like they destroyed too much of the original world. If they toned it back a bit, say, Korra had to destroy a significant portion of the earth kingdom to save the rest of the world, I think that would be fine. They would leave enough of the original world for us to still recognize it as avatar, and it would leave an interesting story for the next avatar because the earth kingdom would probably hate the avatar after that (and the next avatar would of course be earth).
@BestAnimeFreak5 күн бұрын
"What’s the point of the previous two shows constantly saving the world if they just go and destroy all of it anyway." I absolutely do not understand this sentiment ... Why fight in World War 1 and 2, when World War 3 just fucks everything up anyway? Because to think that it's fucked in the future anyway, so why bother is such a nihilistic view, that literally nobody who is doing any progress holds it. How many years since the end of ATLA and the beginning of Seven Havens? 200 years? 250 years? So you want to say, that because bad shit happened after that, the previous 240 years where irrelevant? Yeah, Aang should have known that in less than 300 years from his fight against the Phoenix King, that the world is going to go to shits anyway, so he should just have let him genocide the earth kingdom >.> "They would leave enough of the original world for us to still recognize it as avatar" We don't know how the world is going to look like. A simple cave and a person earthbending a door shut is already enough to recognize the world. So it's really not going to be a problem to recognize the world. "because the earth kingdom would probably hate the avatar after that" And now the entire world potentially hates the avatar ... especially if there are two and one of them is the dark avatar, which appeared once in history and was literally evil ... so the avatar can be blamed for the end of the world (which you ironically are already doing).
@twocents75095 күн бұрын
@ I think you misunderstand me, I’m talking about why do this from a writing perspective. When writers just keep the setting in turmoil you start to wonder if the protagonists method is even working. Take Batman for example, it just retells stories of Gotham in turmoil over and over and you don’t really see any progress with the city (except in the Christopher Nolan trilogy). It’s a trope in writing that I dislike because it makes it feel like you’re just watching the same story again and again. Now, you can still have the characters constantly needing to save their setting, but personally I don’t think you should halt progress or go completely backwards throughout your entire setting for the sake of that plot. If you want to use real world examples, then even during ww1 and ww2 there was overall progress in the world, it wasn’t reduced to Armageddon. Our world became better and continued to get better after… also, aang basically woke up in an Armageddon world, so it feels like it’s redoing that a bit. As for the comment about people hating the avatar, I was just showing how there could still be a compelling story without destroying the entire world. I’m aware that this story line could exist either way, and I think that would be interesting. I’m not blaming the avatar, I am saying the world/earth kingdom might blame the avatar as part of the story. Also, it’s a bit much to assume that someone isn’t in a field of progress just because of one post on KZbin or one viewpoint. I’m actually looking to get into progressing technology once I have my doctorate in physics and I currently work in physics research.

I'm assuming the cataclysmic event has something to do with Spirit Energy Weapon shenanigans. (As an example only) The Legend of Gengi fan work postulated an Earth Federation developing a nuke-type Spirit weapon and that prematurely killed Korra in an attempt to stop it in that timeline. I'm thinking that the Seven Havens would represent the various capitols or major centres present during Korra's era. Essentially (and I had to look up some of the names): Imperial City in the Fire Nation archipelago, Agna Qel'a and Wolf Cove at the North and South poles respectively, and, Ba Sing Se, Omashu, Zaofu, and Republic City on the main continent. That would line up with there being essentially seven major population centres which would become as many havens. The dual Avatars is not that much of a stretch in my opinion. There was rampant speculation about the possibility for a 'chaos' avatar now being present to compliment the 'order' avatar who has been serving for the last 10,000 or so years. I'm curious about the relationship with the Spirit World in the new series. Did the measures necessary to mitigate the cataclysm cut-off or attenuate the connection of the Corporeal World with the Spirit World? Is the connection still there but all the denizens rightfully angry with humanity? Is the connection more present as there may be random dimensional rifts in the wastes, but both environmental hazards and enraged aggressive spirits make finding them dangerous?

Vatuu cannot be destroyed. Darkness cannot exist without the light and vice versa. Korra found Raava within Vatuu, but only fused with Raava. honestly this video sums up my criticism to this channel. i think its awfully optimistic takes full of copium... lets be real most of the times franchises are handled isnt great and TLOK was a full on confirmation. even lies like TLOK being more mature than ATLA... it really isnt. not to say its not mature at all but TLOK fans have this nag of having to brag whatever from TLOK being better or more extreme than in ATLA. "ATLA has already told so many stories in the four nations that its hard to have new settings in this story" ? what a weird take, the setting offers a lot more than was made of it. that being said the one thing i agree on is TLOKs tech not mergin well with the world ,which in theory isnt an inherent problem but a writing problem, atla also managed to implement bending besides combat in the four nations, but i agree that lower tech just suits this world better and bending is a big reason why its not needed. i dont think an apocalypse is the answer tho, basically destroying what aang fought so hard for with the next avatar... meh... and no ones saying that everything would be dandy after atla, history obviously moves in chapters and aang fought for one of peace that should and could very well last a while. avatar kuruk barely did anything because there was no need for it. therefore you should fry TLOK for assuming its the opposite and theres always some new world destroying level threat every other year... that makes a lot less sense

Having 2 avatars is going to cause conflict none stop. Especially with the conflicting spirits inhabiting them. It’s literally their nature, and they won’t always agree so it will be 2 avatars fighting over what they believe is right. Aang didn’t agree with Roku, and disconnected from him over it. Imagine if Roku had been alive still. They would have fought each other endlessly, until they could agree. Also saying a Negative spirit is somehow not going to be evil? It’s ridiculous, yes the world is fantasy, but to be relatable it has to somehow make sense or else the plot will be trash. One avatar will have to work EXTREMELY hard to suppress that evil spirit to use its power for good, but how could she even do that if she wasn’t connected to Rava like the other avatars have been?? It’s just not adding up. Avatars are not powerful on their own it is Rava’s power that helped them.

We can hardly call something bad, like the heavens or twin Avatars, till we see the finer details and we won't know that till we see the show and it explains it for all we know these idea's could be great, so lets wait and see and if its bad then we can complain. Though with the twin Avatars i would be intrested to see if they give them an ability to merge for a short time, like Goku and Vegeta can in Dragon Ball, that could be fun.

@1:45 Having Raava and Vaatu both reincarnate as Avatars is a cool idea. Making them twins is hilarious as well. That actually makes me want to watch the series more. I loved Avatar Kora as well, but there are definitely a few issues with character development and the "team Avatar" that was built around her. I loved the ending though, and I am shocked to hear that she caused an apocalyptic event during her time. Is this event captured in the comics, or are there a series of novels relating to them? @11:00 Just to note, birth of an Avatar happens directly as the death of the previous Avatar occurs as far as I'm aware. Like there is no time between the events, so Kora definitely survived her world ending apocalypse. Whether she aided in building the Havens or not will be an interesting plot point for the new series. It would also be interesting if she became the number 1 enemy of the world, and had to survive herself in the wastelands without others.

Omg that's a good point, I can't wait to find out what happened to her after the apocalypse. I was a teen when the show came out so I had complaints over the years, and ATLA si still my favorite of the two, but I still love Korra because I was a lot like her when I was a teen (my zodiac sign is even a water sign and I've always loved water lol) so I feel bad for her that she had to do that. And the same thing happened to one of my other favorite characters, Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony, had to basically cause the apocalypse with magic and that reset the world for the new generation. Which is crazy two of my favorite cartoon protagonists that I identified with caused the apocalypse lmao

Most of The people complaining are new YOUNG avatar Fans who think they know everything and who watched the Fanmade project "The Legend of Genji" Personally I'm okay with the Show being aimed at kids. Kids nowadays need something Like avatar. PLUS I'm pretty sure the movies are going to be more aimed at Adult fans.

What I want to see from the twins is the Twin that gor Raava go on the typical avatar Journey but along the way she starts to become more evil and the Twin with Vatuu is the one who is a better person I think that would make for a great story the twins having opposite spirits of their personality

Look, I get your point, and yeah, sure, it could be good. But what I've heard and seen so far doesn't really get me excited. If anything, it gets me sceptical. Don't get me wrong, I would love to be proven wrong, and I will give the series a chance to prove me wrong. But for now, I'll be expecting a letdown. Them doing away with the technological progress that came with Korra may be a good idea, since that was pretty unpopular. I didn't mind. It made sense, given the machines that were invented during ATLA. But a lot of people felt like it was bad. I think the bigger problem was that it became so similar to our world. Like, an industrial revolution doesn't have to look like victorian England nor 1920s New York City. That was what made it feel like it was less the world of Avatar than before. Not the fact that there was tech. The fact that the tech looked like 1920s America, rather than Feudal Vaguely-Asia. Introducing the technologies and societal changes, while preserving the aesthetics and vibe and worldbuilding... I'd like to believe it would have been possible, but who knows, maybe 1920s New York with Bending was the best they could do. With that in Mind, I'm worried they're doing Mad Max with bending.

You know the writers if the new show were under no obligation to make the new Avatar series follow the Legends of Korra... Especially if they are going with this Seven Heaven storyline but what do you know. They could have easily pushed the series to a few Avatars after and that would have made these drastic changes make sense.

I find it interesting how much concern there was about the original creatures leaving the Netflix show when Korra wasn't good. They made one good show and one ok show, I didn't necessarily have higher hopes with or without them. To be clear atla is my favorite show ever, I just don't think they proved with Korra that they're able to capture that greatness more than once
@superemoboi205013 күн бұрын
Yeah, they kind of captured lightning in a bottle with ATLA. No pun intended.

I think Korra uses spirit bending to calm vengeful spirits, essentially purifying them into spirit energy that is then sent back to the spirit world. This means she never absorbed Vaatu. Additionally, two individuals cannot be the Avatar at the same time because Raava cannot be split. Raava is already one half of a single entity, with Vaatu being the other half. Since Vaatu was already dealt with by Korra, it makes no sense for there to be two Avatars simultaneously. Another issue is the concept of the Avatar cycle. If I remember correctly, there should only be one female Avatar within a single cycle. For example, Kyoshi was the only female Avatar in Aang’s cycle, and the same applies to the female monk Avatar in the cycle before that. Korra is the first Avatar of her cycle, and based on the established lore, she should be the only female Avatar of her cycle. While it might sound sexist, this is how the creators originally wrote it. The creators of the new Avatar series shouldn’t break existing lore to create a story. While The Legend of Korra did tweak certain elements, they were minor changes that didn’t directly contradict Aang’s story. Furthermore, the original series didn’t delve deeply into Avatar lore, which gave Korra’s creators more room to expand. However, this new series has a solid foundation of lore already laid out, so changes that contradict it feel unnecessary. Based on what I’m hearing, it seems like they’re straying too far from what’s been established.

Seven havens make me think of the seven virtues and sins maybe the show will touch on good and bad. And with how the nations are probably all mixed around in seven places makes me think it must be even harder to find the avatar who is suppose to be an earthbender with earthbenders no longer confined in the earth Kingdom and all these mixed bender families too.

I'm definitely willing to give this a shot and I think it's silly to form an opinion about a show this far before it's even released, but for me personally, I'm not a fan of the post-apocalyptic direction. In a vacuum, sure, a post-apocalyptic fantasy series where you have some old steampunk tech thrown in sounds really cool. But for me personally, a big appeal of ATLA's setting as always been that, for the most part, it's a fairly realistic and nuanced setting in terms of the geopolitics, just with bending and spirits thrown in. It's neat to see a world that evolves similarly to ours but with the addition of a hard magic system, and I'd personally much rather explore what that setting looks like as it moves into a world where the old monarchies and "traditional" systems in Aang's time are increasingly challenged and undermined by the emergence of more "modern" forces, like liberal democracy, revolutionary politics, and anti-imperialism. You get a bit of that in Korra, but it's very limited IMO. The Earth Kingdom dissolving into a bunch of sovereign states all competing for influence and/or a cold war of sorts between the United Republic and Fire Nation would've made for really fascinating story options, for instance, as would seeing how modern countries deal with access to the Spirit World and spirits more generally. Hell, I think there's a lot they could've done regarding mechanized environmental destruction and how that affects a world in which spirits embodying aspects of nature are so prevalent. Sending everything back to the stone age feels not only like it eliminates that really fascinating setting, but it also eliminates the storytelling potential of a more "modern" ATLA world that really grapples with the ideological confrontations I think Korra only ever really scratched the surface of. That said, if they can make the new series' politics feel like a natural "evolution" of Korra's, I'd be more for it. Like if the city-states are also accompanied by a variety of warlords, surviving breakaway states, and remnants of the nations prevalent in the past series (basically, instead of "reseting" the ATLA world, give it a heavy beating but stop short of a complete destruction), I'd be more open to the setting they're going for. It's not the direction I would've gone for, but applying societal breakdown and what an apocalypse would realistically be like to ATLA sounds neat.

i feel like this messes way to much with the original series, what was the point of aang saving the world when it gets destroyed way worse 1 generation later anyway? i fell in love with the world and rich mythology of the original series, it's a shame to loose that very intresting world design.

-_- on one hand, I understand feeling protective of something that you hols near and dear to you. The Avatar Universe has been with so many of us since the early odds. But I thought most of us agreed that harassing people online is a bad behavior? I don't particularly like how this looks ON PAPER. But 'on paper' and 'execution' are wildly different things. You gotta let story tellers do their thing, try to have a little faith, or know when to walk away.
