Since I found here I have gone on this journey....yet again....with her. and she is so sweet and has such a kind soul. but I remember thinking to myself during an episode (back in S1 I think) I thought......"oh poor girl, you are not ready for when Appa gets stolen......or Appa's Lost days also" Even now there are episodes coming up and in 3 that she is not prepared for lol. But this is why I watch people react to this show. the beggining.....ehh it was cool and funny.....by the end they all have tears and/or respect for the show. Truly wish I had watched it when it came out.

I feel Iroh's story during the "Tales of Ba Sing Se" episode really summarised who he is as a character. Here is a guy who appears genuinely full of life, wisdom, and kindness. But hidden underneath all that is a heavy weight of tremendous sorrow, loss, and regret over the loss of his son - a weight that he no doubt carries with him at all times. Yet, as previously mentioned, he is still capable of being full of life, wisdom, and kindness all the same.

51:43 I love your insight on why Zuko wears the Blue Spirit mask! I always just thought he was hiding his identity for the obvious reasons of not tying his actions back to Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation. That makes sense when he originally donned the mask to free the Avatar from a Fire Nation fortress, but it doesn't explain why he started using it again after they were on the run in the Earth Kingdom.
@tsukimilo
@tsukimilo Жыл бұрын
Not only that, but Zuko is always trying to be a person worthy of his father, the Blue Spirit is the complete opposite of that, someone who his mother would be proud of, even if the reasons for his actions are not always the most moral. Especially fitting since the mask he uses for the Blue Spirit was from his Mother's Acting Company and a gift from her.

56:22 azula has several humanizing if not redeeming qualities that make her a rounded character. She is shown to value Mai and Ty Lee having thrones built for them in the drill. Lower than hers of course but still with hers. Also in the flashback she puts Zuko and Mai together when they appeared to like each other. She did it in an Azula way but she did it when no one else seemed to realize it.
@ArasRud

Putting Zuko and Mai together is more of manipulating both at the same time kind of things, not really caring about their happiness, She basically puts Mai in danger in the flashback and exploits Zuko's tendencies to help others just to humiliate both and show who the real boss is. SPOILER ... she also uses Mai to make Zuko what she wants in the comics twice. But I agree on the fact that she values the people around her as long as they are under her control and prais her, not for who they are, but for how usefull they are to her.

I’m struggling to understand her “redeeming qualities”. She’s a product of Ozais abuse so she’s a very tragic person but tragic doesn’t = good. I have sympathy for her abusive childhood but do I empathize with her actions? Nah. But please i’m open to changing my opinion if someone can give me actual redeeming qualities😂

I always felt that Iroh was the same compassionate and caring person we know him as, but he was committed to follow his father's order about what was best for the Fire nation. Lu Ten's loss I feel broke him of his feelings of familial duty and inspired him to save the soul of his nephew and thus the Fire Nation. In a side note: it shows the great strength in Iroh that his loss did not drive him down a path of destruction, but instead a path of love, compassion, and giving.

In the Aang dies at a relatively young age. I say relatively because he was frozen for a hundred years. But he passes only ten years after Appa dies. There’s a popular fan theory that Avatars always have a companion. Like Roku and Fang. So out of grief Aang weakened and he too passed

So when you were doing these 2 at a time you were originally going to do 15 and 16 together and then have to wait at the end of the Appa episode. The relief I had when you did that one alone was real. It totally set this up properly.

I think it’s important to view Jet as the tragic character that he is. That’s not to excuse the bad things he has done, but he represents how the trauma of war shapes people. He is in many ways comparable to Zuko, except that while Zuko had Iroh, Jet had no adults watching out for him. And the saddest part of his story is that while he viewed the Fire Nation as his one true enemy and let himself be consumed by the fear and hatred he had for them, it was ultimately the Earth Kingdom, his own people, that killed him. He tried to start a new life in Ba Sing Se, a place where he thought he could safely move on from his trauma, but the city became his tomb.

Your sadness at "Appa's last days" was touching. It almost always gets even nominally 'stoic' reactors to shed at least a tear or two (or get wet eyes, I've never seen someone not get upset about this episode though I remember one that was angry pretty much all the way through it instead of sad), that's the power of the message of this episode. Seeing you hurt (and occasionally angry) so much was hard but you wear your heart on your sleeve and we appreciate that.

One of the craziest things of this show is Nickelodeon's target demographic was children age 6-11. So many people I know that watched this show began watching it with their children. Also, like I said before, it just keeps getting darker.

I think the young man represents Iroh right before/at the time of when he lost his son. The little boy was his son before he got involved with the war and the teenagers playing the game is him and his son at war but it’s almost a game to them. I believe that iroh had just breached the outer wall and subsequently fighting takes his son’s life. The boys break the window and the big man comes to retaliate and they separate while running away. He helps others the way he wishes he could help his son and himself.

25:46 Many people have a hard time telling the Air Temples apart... This is the Eastern Air Temple, near the Earth Kingdom... This is Where Appa is from... Aang is from the Southern Air Temple, near the South Pole where Sokka and Katara are from... The Northern Air Temple is near the North Pole, it's where the Mechanist and the Air-Walkers set up refuge and is the last place the protagonists visited before they made contact with the Northern Water Tribe...

That’s the last time you’ll see jet. He’s dead. That attack probably broke all his ribs most likely causing internal bleeding and punctures. But Nickelodeon can’t outright show or make death obvious so they leave it a little hints. Like “this isn’t good” “he’s lying” “you’ve chosen your own demise”

When Iroh asked Zuko “if it was his own destiny, or one that someone else tried to force on you” he was speaking from experience. Since the day Iroh was born he was told how he would be the next fire lord and that he would be the one to conquer the world. Since the day he was born he was forced down a destiny his family put on him down eventually causing the death of his son. At that point he realized all the pain and damage following the forced destiny would continue to cause if he kept trying to force something that was never meant to be. Only he could. He chose to be himself from then on, he was no longer involved with the military other than an advisor at war meetings. He found a way into the spirit world where he reached somewhat enlightenment. He followed his own path to get there. He fully understands where zuko is coming from because he also had a destiny forced onto him that he could not accomplish and he learned how to move past it. He wants zuko to as well.
