Back when I was DMing a long D&D campaign, I introduced my players to a character named Juu Dee, who guided them around a new city. Naturally, I waited a while before introducing them to a second Juu Dee. And then a third (Who begged for help) before reintroducing them to the original. One of my players still twitches whenever he hears the name. I consider that a successful campaign.

Uncle Iroh yelling and raising his voice is a great example of when the nicest person finally snaps and drops all the truth bombs on you. Sometimes raising your voice can pass the message across more effectively but it is scary when it's from someone as kind as Iroh.

"Lake Laogai" also turned out to be a big episode for Zuko, who was finally confronted by Iroh upon discovering Appa. Iroh made some pretty great points here, like how Zuko never thinks his plans through (citing the prince's North Pole blunder as an example). This also caused Zuko to turn over a new leaf of sorts, abandoning the Blue Spirit once and for all. Metaphorically, this marked Zuko's first notable step toward rejecting his "destiny" to capture the Avatar and finding peace with himself. (Although we also know he'll be taking a few steps back in subsequent episodes.) Finally, this episode brought a satisfying close to Aang's search for Appa, which unbeknownst to him was all thanks to Zuko.

I remember being so surprised that they actually killed Jet on screen. Also not so fun fact, but when Long Shot aimed his arrow that last time, that was supposed to be a mercy kill for Jet, but they decided it was too violent for a kids show, so instead they just have him looking up which is kind of weird (maybe he knows for Dai Li are coming? Idk)
@somecallmetim21123 ай бұрын
I've never been able to confirm this mercy-kill theory, but Nickelodeon had a policy that forbade the depiction of a child's death on-screen. That's why they had to strongly imply that Jet didn't make it.
@lighttheshadowreaper51023 ай бұрын
@@somecallmetim2112 it was always unclear simply because of this reasoning. My best theory was that the rocks either collapsed his lungs, or caused his ribs to pierce them. Both would be cause for Katara’s healing to not be enough as it seems she works to improve a body’s natural healing response, or at least a minor form of a future bending power (you know that one).

This is one of my favorite episodes in the show despite the sad fate for Jet. There are so many incredible moments and they're spread across everyone. From Jet getting to actually be the Freedom Fighter he thought he was for once. Sokka again showing his analytical mind by figuring out what was going on with Jet and how he was brainwashed. Katara being able to undo that brainwashing (even if temporarily) with healing water. Toph absolutely demolishing the Dai Li and getting to show more of her crazy skills, revealing another talent of hers by knowing when someone is lying and the two blind jokes were well done and of course Appa at long last reuniting with the Gaang is such a feel good moment everyone looks forward to from the moment he was captured at the Library. We all missed him and Team Avatar isn't complete without him I'm also with Ken with this being one of Iroh's best moments so far. He knows when a gentle hand is needed and when it's time to be firm. Zuko would be lost without him and his story isn't over yet

Considering Iroh lost his own son to a war Azulon kept going, his speech to Zuko feels like its infused with all the things he *wishes* he had said years ago to his own family.
@theinsurance24504 ай бұрын
I think Iroh push his son on a dangerous mission with a small team. But the son refused saying "we can't risk the lives of our soldiers". However Iroh push him to do the mission. The whole team including his son died. Iroh has felt guilty ever since. This is why Iroh said Zuko was right years later saying something similar in the war room. And why Iroh see the comparison of his son in Zuko.
@gtaipan74223 ай бұрын
Iroh reaching out to Zuko became one of the most powerful moments we ever watched and learnt. This proves there is some conflict in Zuko; a fighting chance to prove himself worthy to the throne or a hidden way out only his uncle guides him because he cared for him as much as his mother.

Jet not exactly the most sympathetic person but still its a sad death especially that it even happend. Long Feng still on his north korea grind respectable that he has managed it this long. Zuko had moments of normalcy but now he has a chance to get the avatar and he will go and get it because no matter if it is his own destiny or his fathers its really the only destiny he has known for 3 years. Iroh of course now really has to set him straight because his tea shop is at stake. It kinda funny that Iroh sounds more mad about the fact that Zuko never really has the best plans instead of the questionable morality of his actions. Zuko hasn't been angry 24/7 there have been moments of other emotions. Zuko throwing away the mask is a good moment but was it really necesary to litter he could have thrown it somewhere else. Appa is back after last episodes torture porn. Longshot actually talked. Again that gag was way funnier than it had any right to bee. The cabbage merchant has competition in Old Sweepy the most dangerous Dai Lee agent.
