Sir, your narration about Avadi really took me to 19th century. My mother was brought up in Avadi. My Grandfather worked in Royal Indian Army and joined as cheif officer in Tank factory, He was sent to learn socks knitting by Tamilnadu Special Police and started Avadi Socks Knitting Factory in which I.G Arul's was the Head and my Grandmother was the President. All these stories have been told by my mother and the beauty of Avadi, Thirumulaivayal and Kamaraj nagar and their nature. But you really took me into the Reality thank you Sir.

I was a teacher in Thiruverkadu 60 years back.. The High School had an orphanage & fed all with food aid from America. Labour children walked from Avadi to our School. Some evenings I walked back with them upto the enchanting Vedapureeswarar temple. The children taught me how to wade in river without drowning. Also how snakes ,and other field creatures etc are harmless.

Sir ! I am a big fan of yours.there is an important medical personality from MMC who is totally forgotten today.Tetracyline / Folic acid / methotextrate - these are important drugs which were invented by him .he graduated from MMC ! The tragedy is he was never recognized for those pathbreaking inventions as he antagonized the British Dean of MMC for wearing khadhi!!his name is Dr Yellapragadha Subba Rao.please ask any doctor about those inventions and u will understand their importance.Sadly he is not recognized .I have written to Late Mr Muthiah and he wrote back acknowledging that fact - sadly he passed away before he could take that story further.the funny part we have the historic GH of MMC named after Rajiv Gandhi who is no way connected to GH except he had his postmortem ( subject to correction) there.But this great pioneer Dr YS Rao doesn’t have ANY memorial in his alma mater! It is a tragedy that we have forgotten this great Indian doctor and he is from a medical college in Madras!

Very informative indeed,sir. I had spent my Boyhood years in Avadi during the seventies.I remember having seen plently of Railway tracks or Railway tract mounds(apart from the regular main line train lines), some of which were used for an occassional Goods train going into military establishments.Abandoned Railway Track mounds and small bridges can seen to this day,giving us clues to the Rail action of the past.Some of these erstwhile rail paths have become Metalled roads too.

எங்க அப்பா சொல்லி இருக்கிறார் தமிழ்நாட்டிலேயே நம்ம ஊர்ல தான் முதன் முதலில் ராணுவப் படைகள் (ஆவடியில்) குடியேறியது. அதற்கு ஒரு முக்கியமான காரணம், மிக மிக முக்கியமான காரணம் அதிகமான ஏரிகள் இருந்து இருந்ததால் தான் நம்ம ஊரை தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார்கள் ஏறக்குறைய பத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட ஏரி குளங்கள் இருந்தது.படைவீரர்கள் நீர் அருந்துவதற்கு, சமையல் செய்வதற்கும், குளிப்பதற்கும், ஏரிகள் அதிகமாக இருந்ததால் தான் நம்ம ஊர் ஆவடியை தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார்கள். அய்யா அவர்கள் சொன்னதுபோல் இங்கு கால்நடைகள் அதிகம். அதனல் படை வீரர்களுக்கு பால் மிக முக்கிய உணவாக கருதி அதிகமாக பால் தேவைப்பட்டதால் அரசாங்கமே ஒரு பால் பண்ணை அரம்பித்து விட்டது (அந்தப் பால் பண்ணை இன்றும் இயங்கிக் கொண்டு வருக்கிறது ஆவடி அலமாதியில்). ஆவடியில் இருந்து முனைவர் சாந்தாராமன் CRPFex.

I am sure the present TN special police battalion office and barracks which is almost 200 acres was the area purchased by Dr. There are still mango trees in the campus. Also after taken over by British this camp was used to recruit locals for working in Malaysian rubber plantation. After independence this place was taken over by TN special police for their training and quarters. Still the tiled buildings are existing.

Your presentation of history is fantastic. Everyone to whom I suggested your site is glued to it. I would like to know if you have material on Kottur(puram). The renovated Perumal temple has a ninth century stone inscription, which was almost plastered over. The temple pond etc have "disappeared". An entire Siva temple has been swallowed, and Lingam, nandi etc were strewn around (now worshipped in a shed). Our flat near Railway station was a paddy field sixty years back. Now there is a beautiful Miawaki forest on Railway land. There are stories about times when Adyar river flowed near temple, and people bathed in river.
