I hope you don't give up on helping Ave achieve her dreams of being a successful business owner...Also Ave needs to be more hands on with her business endeavors rather than letting others do all the work for her from the registering of the business to day to day working in the store. I'm curious what kind of inventory system was she using? How was records kept to fully account for revenue against the expenses? Was Ave the bookkeeper? Was receipts for replenishments of stock maintained so she can balance the books? Just curious on how exactly what role Ave played in the Sari Sari store and the feed business. I liked the video and I am considering helping my GF family out with a sari sari store. I don't care who's name its registered under because its for her and her family. I just care that it survives and doesn't fail because of poor accounting. Thanks again for the video.

JoJo we definitely used it as a learning experience and will take that with us as a lesson learned. Ave was not very hands on with accounting or inventory which was another mistake. But next time will be different 😀

Suits to Shorts It amazes me that people obscures you and Ave's intent on the video. I have read most of the comments regarding this video. This was a sharing of lessoned learned. You and Ave already put yourselves out there that your venture didnt quite workout and you just wanted to share so others thinking about starting a business can avoid the same issues from occuring. Keep up the great vids. take care...

Hello you two. I'm kell and I have been subscribed to you for a while now and when you upload I do watch and enjoy. I have a girl in Cavite city she has a son and I met her and him online in 2011, I am sick and dying here in America, I have never met them and I don't think I ever will, I am disabled and on a fixed income "WAY before I ever should have been" but that's not why I'm messaging you today.I have the answers for Ave and I'm sure if you listen she will understand. I'm sitting at my computer cooking my dinner in my tiny tiny house here in Missouri, it's cold outside but I am warm, TY GOD ! I was mistreated by cop's in 2010 and that is why I'm sick today and while I was being tortured and beaten by correction officers under the supervision of Sheriff dwight franklin I was so sick I crawled on my cell floor for 4 days and gave my life to God, I prayed and I ask for my kids to be taken care of and my sins forgiven, I was so sick with fever I was laying across the stainless cr with a towel over my head repeatedly flushing it to keep cool water on my head to break my fever and two hours later the nurse came in and felt my head and told the guards he isn't going to die take him to the hospital. While I was being treated I had a bible beside my bed and I began reading and the first thing I read was Luke 12:49 "This is a direct quote,Jesus speaking" Jesus A cause of Division,49 ‘I came to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and what stress I am under until it is completed! 51 Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? Hi Chad and Ave, this is my first comment on your videos. First, I want to say how much I've enjoyed watching them and learning through your experiences. I recently traveled to the Philippines for the first time and just fell in love with the country - especially the people. Second, I want to say that I hope that you guys (especially Ave) don't take some of the idiotic comments to heart. In fact, I think many of them are purely racist - even if they are disguised as good intentions. Sure, every culture will have dishonest and unscrupulous people to take advantage of those with money but, to say that all people of a particular culture are this way, is simply disgusting and ignorant. Third, I want to say how really cute Nicole is and how great for her, Chad, that you have taken on the role of her dad. A girl really needs this! (I have an adopted daughter myself!) And, finally, it is very clear by your videos how much the two (actually, three) of you really love each other and are dedicated to each other. In spite of the fools here that ignorantly think otherwise, it is very clear to any open-minded person that there is real love between you! Best of luck and warm wishes for a happy and prosperous future for your family!

Chad and Ave, Sorry to hear about the business not working out. One rule of thumb...Love your family, but best to keep family members out of your business practices if wanting to succeed. As you are aware, we run a sort of sari-sari store where we are located. We have had some success doing this. We have built it so it is walk in store. It is a little bigger than your customary sari-sari stores around us. It enables us to carry more stock and more variety than most stores around us. We also do the food thing for lunch. We cook usually around 3 different types of food a day for carry out (little plastic bags filled with food). This has been one of the better money makers, although it is based on selling low budget servings. Food items can usually provide a good mark up, but sometimes it is hard when serving in a low budget area. You have to make food that the people can afford. We have not tried to venture out too much in this area. I would like to do more, but Maly does not feel it would be able to sell if adding things like pizza or hamburgers. Our surroundings are very simple farming people without much extra cash.I am not there either on a full time basis to help in these things and that holds back the expansion as well. They cook what they know, and that is Ilocano food at its best! One of the best things we did when moving here was get away from the family when starting a business. Being at least a bus ride away has made a lot of difference. We started out with family working for us, but quickly found out that it would not work. Arguments would arise about money and it led to some bad attitudes, hurt feelings and lost friendships. Just not worth the stress having family involved. Maybe we are just blessed, but Maly's Country Market has really grown over the years. We are not yet where we would like to be one day, but we are getting there. We continue to make improvements to the shop and also add new items to our inventory. It has really helped Maly to have the funds provided by the store to cover in times of emergencies. Anyone is welcome to come checkout our channel as we do post from Maly's Country Market at times. You can see the difference from our store and those you would usually find in the barangays. Good luck in your endeavors! You are flying out and I am flying in for Christmas! I hope you enjoy your time at home! Ave I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your sister as well!

The voice of knowledge. Very good words to take into account, useful for me too.Thanks
@ThisisOurPhilippines7 жыл бұрын
GrandAdan, I will say, nothing has been easy. It is not a "big profit" business for sure. Maly makes enough to cover some unexpected expense. It takes money to invest in it. We have followed a plan where the first 5 years you are basically investing nearly all profits back into the store. We are just now starting to see some small profit from month to month. It is also time consuming. If you want to take a day off, you basically shut down that day. When you are closed, you are loosing that income that day. In a small barangay, it is very important you have constant hours and are not closing every other time the wind blows. People are also habit forming. A sari-sari store maybe closer to them, but if you have had consistency in your stock, they will usually by pass that store to visit yours. You have to avoid the "walang bukas" that most places give you. I would be more than willing to give you any advice I can. Any questions I will try to answer truthfully to the best of my knowledge.

Not everything works on the first try. I tried to help a number of people start a small business here in the Philippines. I watched the attempts shrink to nothing. Most of them would simply "eat the capital." Fast forward, my wonderful bride and I often discuss biz ideas and shoot them full of holes until she came up with one idea I could NOT poke any holes in. After testing, it is growing beyond our wildest dreams. Honestly, I wanted to bring my mother-in-law who is about to retire from government service into the business, she said no. The eldest brother-in-law is also in government service but at one time was in an industry similar to ours. In fact, his experience was part of my wife's inspiration. That brother-in-law will soon join us as a customer service manager so my wife can focus on growing the business. Honestly, our biggest problem is getting capital freed up fast enough due to our growth. With a great idea and good people around you, success will follow you. It will take effort but it will be worth it. Happy we found your channel, now it is time to hit the SUB button.

That took a lot of courage to share that story. I appreciate it and I'm sure a lot of other viewers due to. I'm just not to sure I would have put it on the Internet where some day someone in the family could see it and it will hinder healing between family members. In the end blood is thicker than water and some day they will forgive each other about this but having it post it on the Internet for all to see may cause problems in the future IMHO.

True to that. Never involved family members to your business. It happened to me before it’s not a sari sari store but a tricycle business. I have 9 tricycle business and let my steph dad ran my business in hope that I can trust him and my mother but it turns out to be the disastrous in the end. So I ended up selling all of it and move back to USA . Few years later they all sorry to me which is it was nice and atleast they are forgiven but the trust I have for them is gone . So next year we are living back to the Philippines to live but my mistake before 13 years ago will never be a mistake again . So your not alone girl. Just be yourself when it comes of business .

Be very careful Sir. There’s something fishy in there. No way you’d start a business without doing business permit first, surely at that time she started running the sari-sari it has to be done. I meant to say before your gf realize that she need to renew the business registration or something, surely she knew that the business wasn’t name by her? I am not accusing her but it’s so common here that a lot of foreigners get scam by Filipino families. Even the person you are living with cannot be trusted when it comes with money. Good luck Sir. I saw the other video of her story about the ex boyfriend of your current gf now. Why do you think the foreigner left her if she’s nice and like almost perfect? Get to know her more before investing anything in the Philippines. I am a Filipino btw. I literally live here since I was born.
@jeremyp50277 жыл бұрын
i could be wrong but right on the BIR poster i think it has the name of the person who the business is registered to. or it was the mayors permit. and these 2 things must be posted on the wall in all shops. and yes it sounds like a half good story to tell a foreigner BF who she has been asking for money who may not know about these things in the philippines to run the place until its to late and facts come out that cant be denied.

Ave is right, don't do business with family member or members. My two brothers went into business together, not even six months later they separate ways and relationship was never the same. One thing I need to ask Ave. How come she didn't apply for a business permit herself then realized later business permit was put in her mother's name? I'm a little bit confused about what she said. Anyway, please tell pretty Ave happy birthday and have a safe trip coming back here in the US. Take care guys.

Never do a business that other than rich Filipino can do. Just way too much competition with the price driven down by the willingness to work for very little money. You have to do something that either requires far to much capital that a common Filipino wouldn't have or some sort of connection with the US. It makes sense though. A Filipino family needs less money than you do so they don't have to make as much. Business is tough.

That is sad... My GF here in Cebu City worked with her father in an Internet Café/Sari Sari store... The issue was not with him, it was with the people next door with a Sari Sari store... Every thing, and every time that my GF, and her father had an idea, and implemented it, the lady next door would replicate it.. Of course the result was a glut for whatever it was in the immediate area.. Greed is a strange character.. I don't know why people don't understand.. You don't build a Hair Salon next to a Hair Salon.. It is going to fail, and there will be bad issues that arise from it... It is lucky that Ave was able to retain a relationship with her parents.. Get your own property... Good to hear from Ya'll.... Merry Christmas...

I would say this is the crab mentality. They cannot stand to see someone do better than them and try to pull them down to their level. With our store, we have had the same issue. When we started, there was hardly a store in our area. Today I can throw a rock and hit 7 at least! None are as big as ours is, but they draw customers away for sure. We started cooking food, now there are ladies walking around the barangay selling food. We started doing BBQ, now the neighbors also started to BBQ at night. It is never ending. My advice to my wife has been to always make our items to standard ans always maybe add a little "extra" ingredient that makes it stand out. Again, people form habits easy here. If they like what they are served, they will come back. We had to make our BBQ vinegar dipping sauce just a little differently so we can keep the customers we have. My next project??? Smoked Boston Butts and chicken quarters! LOL Southern style! Not sure if people in our area will pay to eat it, but I am going to try! Something different anyways. If it doesn't sell, I will be eating good anyways!
