If you think about it, all forms of submission grappling are really just games. People figure out how to take advantage of the rules, because their goal is to win. It’s not about who is the better “fighter” although that’s the illusion that’s presented. Anytime you remove striking, funny things start to happen in grappling competitions. So much of what goes on in modern competitive Brazilian jiu-jitsu/grappling would get you punched in the face or worse if the rules didn’t prevent it. The only way to make sure that grappling is not boring and unrealistic is to include strikes. But then that’s just mixed martial arts.
