Dr. Johnson was actually English, he was probably most famous for creating the dictionary and being played by Robbie Coltrane in Blackadder S3 (RIP). The quote was used by the American Journalist and Author Hunter S. Thompson in his book 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' which this song was based on.

I heard Matt aka M. SHADOWS came up with the name by looking in the Bible and picking out interesting words, eventually they put the words together AVENGED SEVENFOLD meaning "what goes around comes around" So many A7X songs can't wait for more.🦇💀🦇

Actually, Avenged Sevenfold, is from the story of Cain & Abel, when God sent Cain away, after he killed his own brother, he said if anyone did anything to Cain, they would be Avenged Sevenfold.

Another great reaction. Just a tidbit, if you weren't aware; although Jimmy passed before Nightmare was recorded, he was very involved in the creation of it. They were nearly done with it when he passed, just hadn't fully recorded all the songs. There are some demos here on YT with him playing songs off the Nightmare album.

I heard a long time ago, I think it was M.shadows that said that they looked up the name in the Bible and saw the phrase or whatever and they thought it sounded cool and all agreed to name their band Avenged Sevenfold. Alot of their lyrics have biblical meaning as well. God told Cain, Adam's first son that his lineage was to be cursed A7x for killing his own brother Abel. As the story goes in la biblia.
