Hail to the king for me is my least favorite album, not that it’s bad, it’s just very much a filler album to me. Although never officially stated by the band (as far as I know), it’s well accepted that Hail to the King is a tribute album to the bands that inspired them. A7X has never been shy about wearing there inspiration on their sleeves. Hail to the King was the first album after jimmy passed, they had a new drummer, Matt started having major vocal problems, and honestly they didn’t even think they would continue playing. So hail to the king was them paying homage to the greats before them and seeing if they even wanted to continue. I don’t mean this in a bad way, but to me, the A7X I absolutely fell in love with on Unholy Confessions died with Jimmy on the Nightmare album. The nightmare album was a masterpiece and jimmy was a large reason for that. It wasn’t until Brooks wakerman stepped in and they released “The Stage” that I started to see that fire come back. Although they will never be the band they were pre hail to the king, I am growing quite found of them post Hail to the King.

To me is the album that dive me into A7X. A masterpiece to me! But it makes sense it reminds me a lot of Metallica and Megadeth but A7X growing listenin to NOFX and I cannot see NOFX on that so this theory might be doubtful

I love hail to the king it’s my fourth favorite album. Anyone who enjoys classical music would definitely enjoy it. The album is also their most successful album and with it being more rock it’s a better gateway for new fans to get into the band since the song hail to the king is the best representation of showcasing everything from the band

That's fascinating because I'm the total opposite, I cannot stand The Stage and this new album with Nobody on it is even worse. I do agree the band's fire, spirit, and inherent tongue-in-cheek slant died with Jimmy. For me, the hands down worst song on HTTK is Planets, and The Stage is just Planets, the album. So I hated that. God Damn is ok, but the rest is just hot trash, imo. Like the dude in the video, it's just now where I wanted them to go. And contrary to the band's own uppity belief, (which I'd be lying if I said I didn't let it taint my opinion of the band, because it does) I'm not a fan of THEM, I was a fan of THEIR MUSIC. So I'm not obliged to continue supporting, when the music they make no longer speaks to me.

Dude, I agree with you. Nightmare is incredible, for me I could have a show of them just playing those songs. I really liked Hail To The King, but it doesn't have that A7X brand, songs that are a little generic, although good. After that, few of them pleased me, maybe just The Stage, but their prog metal doesn't please me either. Other bands have done the same, with more originality and I didn't like it

Matt Shadows is an amazing singer and one of the best of all time. His voice however isn't for everybody cause he does sing a lot from the nose but technically he's so good. Too bad he had to go through surgeries and his voice isn't the same anymore.

I feel the same way about M Shadows, and the band as a whole. Everything before and after Waking the Fallen is very hit-or-miss, but Synester Gates is pretty consistently amazing. Buried Alive is my favorite post-WTF track of theirs, would probably be a good reaction.

A7X is one of my favourite bands and while I understand that others don't like his voice, it doesn't bother me a whole lot. I would highly recommend Set Me Free, Buried Alive, Save Me, Roman Sky, Sunny Disposition and Not Ready To Die. If you're feeling adventurous Mad Hatter is a good track.

Love the intro, but it's nothing more than a foot tapper imo. @@HeavyMetalForLife You're missing me, you don't have to WRITE the lyrics to have a stamp all over the songs behind the drums and with arrangements and tweaks here and there. It's hell known that back when Jimmy was alive at least, they would all go in to the studio together and hammer their songs out, often without a producer of any kind. Just the boys chillin in the studio left to their own devices, that's how you end up with A Little Piece of Heaven, which is a god damn hilarious masterpiece, imo. But yeah if you're tying to tell me that the spark and magic is still there with Brooks than it was with the Rev and Mike Portnoy (who recorded the drum tracks for Nightmare after Jimmy died) You're just ignoring reality at that point.

The Stage and whatever the new album was called that has Nobody on it, pure steaming hot garbage. They used to be one of my favorite bands, this Album was their last good one, I think they peaked with Nightmare. People draw lots of comparisons to Metallica, so hopefully this "phase" is their St. Anger phase and we'll get something that doesn't stuck soon! The hidden Gem is the song "Set Me Free" that they released during Covid, it was a cutting room floor song from the Hail to the King sessions.

This is for me their worst song ever, the most generic and boring song they ever did. I sincerely recommend you to go through their albums and just listen. The Whole Self Titled Album, The Stage, most of Coty of Evil and even Hail to the King are almost perfect albums. Start off with the Self Titled album (the white album) and go on from there, INCREDIBLE. I am sure your mind will change

A very bad pick for a listen/reaction/review imo These guys are one of the greatest musicians I have ever heard, I'd recommend listening to comments suggestions if both of you are not really familiar with them.. (The Self Titled album, The Stage, Nightmare, LIBAD, even Hail to the King album is so amazing except for this song and this means war. And City of Evil is incredible, but it is more of an acquired taste.
