Actually, there are multiple occasions where they are both playing. Granted they are harmonizing. On most of Avenged’s records, there might be three, maybe four guitars recorded. In the live performances, Zacky Vengeance (rhythm) will drop rhythm and harmonize with the lead and the only rhythm is the bass. Kinda like Dimebag with a lot of his music because he is the only guitarist.

Zacky is an awesome rhythm guitarist and perfect foil for Syn, but when it comes down to those tech solos, it’s Syn all the way. Of course, the mix will add other parts from Zack and Syn alike. My favorite band, can’t wait until the world is up and running. Stay safe everyone.

It makes me feel good to see someone get as excited about an A7x solo as I do. Synyster Gates has the ability to paint a picture and set the mood and tone for his solos. Kind of like how Stephen King will describe a scenario in his books for pages before he gets to what he’s actually describing. You can literally see and feel what he’s getting at.

Gates is definitely a different breed of metal guitarist. You'll rarely see him thrashing his head like the typical metal prototype. Usually it looks like he's playing each note with his heart and soul instead

By the way, Avenged Sevenfold is my favorite band, and MIA was the first song I heard from them, I'm a drummer and I admired their drummer a lot for his style and he was somehow an influence on me. around 2008. I was a fan of the band ever since. Jimmy Sullivan, their drummer dies in 2009. It was a great loss. I adopted a dog and named him Jimmy.
