As a die hard fan, I actually like it. I like the direction the band is going. It reminds me of the Stage. I like that they grow and evolve, instead of doing the same type of thing every album. Shadows sounds alil different maybe do to all of his issues he had vocally or it could be intentional for this song but I'm excited for the album.

As before, they also recorded the album with an orchestra. The style of the song is similar to the last album. The Stage. I had to listen to it multiple times too, final verdict. Yeah, I like it... That stop-motion video of handiwork. Just great!!!

I know like 3 songs of this band so I am coming in pretty blind. On first listen, I was like meh. But after listening a few times, gotta say, I am digging it. I know enough that this is not typical of their sound, but it prompted me to check out their other stuff.. and I must say I like it.

so many people don't really recognize Matt's voice in this one for some reason?? I've listened to them so much & don't see a big enough difference as apparently others do to question whether it's the same singer, he could be a guest vocalist in practically any song ever and I would instantly be like "yeah that's m shadows" lol

more i listen to it more i get addicted to it, but first time hearing it was so weird and mixed emotions that i instantly started listening to it on repeat. it has so many layers that it's imposiible to catch everything at once, every more listen reveals every little secret they put in this song. it's gonna be long three months before we get album (especially after teasing us with this "controversial" song) but god damn this song will get me throu that time quickly. i am greatful to be fan of a band that isn't scared of changes and doing "unpopular" stuff.

So after some listens, what's the verdict? When I 1st heard it I wasn't sure how I felt. Now I freakin love it. It is definitely a song that needs multiple listens.

So A7X is probably a top 5 band for me, and this song feels like it needs a bit of context. Their last album, The Stage, I wouldn't necessarily call a concept album, but the underlying tone is that we are the drones in a simulation, our strings are being pulled by puppeteers, and the puppeteers are being controlled by their masters (however you want to define that, though the general concept seemed to be around government controlling the people, the wealthy controlling the government, which you can see at the end of the music video for The Stage). There were a lot more progressive vibes on that album. This song feels like an extension of The Stage, like this is the next step in the simulation, where we're constantly surrounded by war and fighting, and even the "happiness" is manufactured. So to me, it feels like they're continuing the direction they were headed in. In terms of the song itself, I'm starting to get into it the more I listen to it, but it's a lot to take in on the first listen. In terms of M. Shadows's voice, I know he had a major viral infection in 2018, and had to go on long vocal rest. From what I've seen since then, his voice doesn't seem to have that same tone to it that he had before, mostly singing from the chest rather than the mask of the face that we're more accustomed to, I would assume to protect the vocal cords a bit more. Overall, I give the song itself like a 5/10, not great, not bad, just very middle of the road. The video was a solid 9/10 though. That was all old fashioned stop motion animation (mixed obviously with some good editing)

It is much closer to The Stage than anything else in their discography, luckily that album is their best album (imo)

Super proggy. Continues the path they were headed down with The Stage honestly. Weird listen at first but after going back through it a few times, it really hits. Vocals are a little rough/unexpected, almost sounded like Shadows was holding back at times. All of that being said, I’m really excited to check out the rest of the album.

The song is experimental. Ive seen them 13 times live. They are a amazing band. Love the song. Love the music video. Nothing wrong with trying things that may seem odd or weird or not a typical song structure. That’s what makes it so interesting with every listen!

Shadows spoke in an interview that the album would be heavily influenced by Kanye west. I just so happen to recently deep dive back into older Kanye and if you listen to tracks like “champion” and “stronger” from graduation - 808/hip hop - this avenged track makes more sense.

Definitely not a fan of the song however I am confident that there will be better songs on the album. Also The Stage is very good definitely worth a listen
