I’d say the problem with this album is more so that they were young and very green, they’ve admitted they didn’t know shit about recording or anything when doing this album, they just played because that’s all they knew, so the album sounds very raw, they lacked in song structure, the drums weren’t recorded to a click track and were all done in one take so it sounds unpolished, some mistakes were made towards the end that weren’t re-recorded and fixed like it usually would. When you hear all the other albums then compare it to this you’ll notice the difference in sound quality.

ngl I really like the rawness of it. Also why I love Jimmy and Syn's side-project Pinkly Smooth.

STST isn't without its charms, I still enjoy a lot of it. To End the Rapture, Turn The Other Way, We Come Out at Night, and Warmness on the Soul are my favs, and the only ones I honestly ever go back to listen to. Obviously, it's by far the punkiest album of theirs, which makes sense since Zacky was the only guitarist at the time, and he was a major punk kid. Syn (their lead guitarist) joined after the album was made, but they had him do the solo on Rapture when the album was rereleased (I think the label wanted them to do an EP for promotion before releasing the album, so they added Syn to the EP version? Idk the timeline of it all is weird) The Rev's drums are what stand out the most on this album to me. The band has said-and I totally agree-that while the rest of the band was always improving and changing over time, The Rev was just always amazing. Like, right out the gate, he was top of his game. Anyways, fun album, really raw and intense and rough around the edges. A big contrast to the following album, Waking the Fallen, my favorite. That one is written more deliberately, produced more carefully, and polished infinitely more. WtF feels very ahead of its time, some parts of it wouldn't be out of place on a modern progressive metalcore album, if they were tuned lower and had modern production.

I don't understand how people consider this a bad album like I get that they were untrained and whatnot but there are still a lot of bangers on it

Avenged dint really make a bad album, but this wont go on top still..lol You could say Shadows voice sound the same, and then not, a thing surely is, that he added more ways to use voice later on..

My opinion on STST was always that - it's not a great Avenged Sevenfold album for me, however it feels like a great hardcore album. I've heard debut albums that were A LOT worse. This album has it's flaws and you can tell they were very young still. I think the fascinating thing about it is that despite being so completely different from anything they've made afterwards, there are still aspects of it that you can discover in their later work. Maybe that's just me though. While it still is at the bottom of my "ranking" it can hit a sweet spot when you're in like a "pissed off" or "Me against the world" kind of mood. So I appreciate Sounding The Seventh Trumpet for what it is and accomplishes.

Well, let's just say it's the least fan's fav album because the sound is different and more straightforward compared to other albums. It's not necessarily a truly bad 'bad' album. There are some good songs from the album, like Warmness on the Soul is one of fan fav song

8:22 I think the biggest issue is you're conflating 'Worst/Least favourite' with 'bad'. Sure there are some good tracks on this album, but for a lot of people it's not as good overall as all their others.

This was okay. I get why people don't like it, even if it's not really bad. It's just a bit bland, in my opinion.

I like both eras of Avenged. If I want to listen to some raw music and feel mad or something, I listen to this. If I just want to relax and just enjoy good music I listen to the new album.

Bruh you are absolutely capping. I swear to god if you pretend you were around for this album im laughing my ass off at you. Literally every single aspect of music that made this album good got better on waking the fallen, being a hipster for Waking the Fallen is one thing but you KNOW you're just saying this shit to be different lmfao

Umm, gee I don't know. Maybe because, the songs are composed much better, every instrument is mixed way better, they are better technically, singing is superior. Everything after STST sounds more mature and better by every metric. I am not shitting on STST, but from musical standpoint, it's closer to mid. Considering they were only 18-19 at the time, it's really not bad.
