Tony is a hero but you could argue that he was the Avengers overarching villain. A lot of stuff they had to deal with was started or caused by him, even if he didn’t mean it. Maybe this variant of Tony never was kidnapped and created Mark 1 and just used his genius to create bigger and bigger weapons until an accident turned him into Doom?

It really depends on if the movie feels like he was just forced in to get people excited or if it feels like they genuinely had a cool idea for it that they wanted to try out. I'm a bit concerned with RDJ as Doom... Not from an acting perspective, because I have no doubt he will nailed it, but from a worldbuilding perspective. I mean, will people just ignore he looks like tony or will that be a plot point?? I can also see this being a red herring too actually. Like, they reveal to he RDJ to hide who will actually play him. That would be genius actually...

Just a thought, but RDJ could be playing a version of Tony Stark from a destroyed universe and the trauma he experienced being the only survivor, or being one of a few, is what transformed him into Doom. Some kind of psychotic break or something.

I think we are looking at a reimagined backstory of doom. Who still has majority parts of victor, but a hint of Tony. Which explains the loose relationship across the multiverse of these characters. Coz there surely has to be sone connection. I believe Marvel truly has the opportunity to create a character who is essentially a hybrid of a more bitter Tony stark and victor von doom.
