The Russo Brothers understand the power dynamics between characters really well. It helps the humour and tension to the scene. Quill, despite having no high-tech suit, manages to overcome both Parker and Tony because they are in his stage; Quill is more into his element being in space than the two. Strange, who is actually the most powerful, reserves himself.

y'know just, like, for reference sake. at any point during that Peter could literally have just ... gotten out of that hold. the guy can no-diff Bucky's metal arm naturally and casually stop the hammer of an alien that's been smacking Iron Man around. there is no feasible reason Peter wouldn't have been able to, bare minimum, use his completely free legs to just kick Quill and him kicking Quill could literally take off a leg entirely. makes me like to imagine he's just kind of letting the situation play out because his spider sense isn't going haywire.
