One interesting thing about this series is that the tie-in comics actually gave a kind of neat explanation for the goofy-looking exoskeletons; in a fight before the first episode of the series, most of the team was beaten so badly by Ultron that Hank had to design those exoskeletons for them just so they could move without feeling constant pain.

Marvel and their licensing troubles. It’s bizarre to me that them legal issues was why we didn’t get an A tier roster, especially since they can _reference_ Thor, Ironman, and Cap, and put them in the intro sequence- (and put 2/3 in guest star episodes) but they can’t just be main characters of the show.

I couldn't really get past the first episode of UTS, but EMH is very re-watchable although half the fun of watching that show is their revisiting story arcs from the comics so you can harumph to yourself "comics was betta" while not digging them out from boxes in the basement but just sitting there with your smug on and enjoying the show.

While I do appreciate the attempt to X-Men-fy The Avengers to appeal to that audience, but I still don't understand why they would mostly leave out essential members such as Cap, Tony, and Thor when this is like the first ever Avengers cartoon if you don't count the 60s solo series.

They messed up big time on that part, cuz the Avengers were no where near as popular as the justice League was back in the 90's. Like people already knew the Justice League from the Superfriends shows, but I had no idea what the Avengers were, and was completely uninterested in the characters on the show

I have a notebook like this when I was in Elementary. I also watched a couple of episodes of this show.. but apparently no one remembers it and no one believes me that Avengers animated series like this exist before MCU launched it. Two things that are an issue for this show for me is Wanda's terrible accent and the super sentai powerups, which are fine for being a byproduct of the time but I could do without. 12 year old me watched this as it aired and took some time to like Pym leading the team. I will say, a 13 episode season of Avengers using Ultron multiple times, using Kang, Namor, Egghead, The Circus of Crime, Nicholas Scratch, Baron Zemo and The Zodiac as villains is pretty impressive within that timeframe. I do like the teams interactions through the show, it conveys a similar comradery to the X-Men cartoon and absolutely loved the Rogue voice actresses as Tigra. I put this in the same slott as Blade the tv series, not exactly what I expect from an adaptation but a lot of fun for what they ended up doing. I really do prefer the overall feel of this show to the later Avengers cartoons, if this had gotten a second season I do feel the shortcomings mentioned would've been rectified based off your vid

I haven't seen the cartoon, but the Avengers line-up could have worked. In the Sixties the team was re-organised so that only Captain America remained, while former villains including Hawkeye, Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch, Goliath and the Wasp formed the "new" team. Other new members included The Black Knight, Hercules and the Black Panther. Maybe the problem was how the series was framed and the stories themselves.

At the time I didn't like the character redesigns and the voice of the Scarlet Witch was particularly grating to me. While the redesigns don't look as off now that the MCU exists, I'm glad that Wanda's heavy accent hasn't continued to the present. The team line up was good though; it's always fun to see Tigra on the team!

Two of the most underrated Marvel Animated shows (in my eyes) would have to be AEMH and Wolverine and the X-Men. Those shows rock and they were cancelled so early on.

I remember this show. I used to love it back then, but now, not so much. I do enjoy this show, but it wasn't as good as their earlier shows (X-Men, Iron Man season 2, Fantastic Four season 2, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and even Silver Surfer), but it's still better than those disgraced shows like EMH, Assemble and those disgraced MCU films.

From where i sit, Marvel's animated shows from the 90's were a very mixed bag. With 'X-Men', and 'Spider-Man' being the ones that fans love the most. 'Avengers: United They Stand', however, was SO far removed from what most fans were expecting from an 'Avengers' cartoon. The setting, and character roster wasn't all that great, and limiting the three biggest Avengers to guest appearances didn't do the show any favors. Eventually, 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes', and 'The Marvel Cinematic Universe' would give us the 'Avengers' we deserve, but 'United They Stand' remains a failed experiment. Which results in it being one of the forgotten relics of Marvel's animation heyday in the 90's.

Thank you for a very sober analysis of an animated series only the most hard-core Vision fan could love. I have been binging the various Avengers animated series this holiday week and I decided to watch Stand again to see what went wrong. It's sad that any five minutes of any ep of either 21st-century Avengers cartoon (Earth's Mightiest or Assemble) is better than the whole Stand season (with the exception, of course, of the Cap-based "Command Decision.") I think the only thing I really liked here was Ant-Man's backpack transport. But if a Marvel Zombie like myself has to reach that far for something positive, there is a serious, obvious problem.

I’ve a few episodes of Avengers: United They Stand and I agree it’s not really good, but I think it’s a little better than Avengers Assemble. Cuz even though both have potential to be great but was wasted, at least United They Stand tried to stand out like the other marvel animated shows at the time like X-Men the animated series and Spider-Man the animated series, while Avengers Assemble was just meant to be a marketing tool for the kids so they would watch the MCU movies.

I think part of the problem that the Avengers: United they Stand stand was the decision to have Ant-Man be the leader of the team since Hank Pym at the time still had his terrible reputation, which is one of the things the MCU fixed.

I think its more The Avengers didn't have much of a compelling story to tell at the offset. Yes, Hank was very milquetoast as a leader, but more the team didn't really have a mission or goal other than "we stop the badguys." Like, there was no real reason given as to WHY they are a team and work together. Or why they have transformation sequences.

This was my introduction to the avengers. As a kid I didn’t really hate it since my knowledge of the hero team was only from the show at the time. Looking back there are some scenes that were cringe, and the animation style is a bit of a mess. Looking back the only one who didn’t make it past this show was Tigra. She’s kinda known in comics but nothing else after. Who knows maybe someday she’ll have her moment again.

I remember this show. Still have the toys. I think I used to watch it with my cousin. So long ago now. Despite the bad press, I still think it was a noble effort. However, I believe the definitive Avengers show was Earths Mightiest Heroes. That was everything an Avengers show needed to be. It rivals Justice League Unlimited, if you ask me.

I remember hating this show back when it first came out, but I have no solid recollection of why, beyond the aesthetics and finding it...bland in some way. I actively read the Avengers West Coast comics and actually LIKED the team up. I'm a guy who hates Captain America, so any chance to get the likes of Wonder Man and Tigra in there, it should have been a huge draw. Instead, younger me kept wondering "why?" Then again, I watched all of two episodes tops, so yeah. I suppose part of it was the glut of other good stuff going on. Batman Beyond, Spiderman Unlimited, and others, made it the vastly weaker show by comparison. This makes me want to give it another shot, so cheers for bringing it up!

Like many, I didn't watch it as it aired, but did watch it when Disney got the Marvel rights, and aired all the Marvel shows on Jetix. Like, the show ain't bad at all, it wasn't that great, but the details they had were. For example, Ant-Man/Giant-Man's costume switching was so interesting, I feel as though EMH carried it over, oh yeah, that Wasp costume... Saban's use of Sentai transformation did not work for her. Tigra actually got some play (Kinda wished she was in the MCU, but after Cats and Cheetah in WW84, I can see why they wouldn't). And I love that you can see Beast and Quicksilver's portraits in the mansion, and lastly... This is the only cartoon at the time to give us a Scarlet Witch and Vision, together, with a romance... Like wow.

I remember when this came and as a kid I wasn't much of a fan of the Avengers, but I was aware of them from the few 90s Marvel Titles I was buying that guest starred iron man , Captain America & I was reading PADs Hulk & Watching that 90s Cartoon based on this run. I remember watching at least 3 or 4 Episodes. I almost forgotten about this show because I was more into X-men & Spider-Man . These days after Watching the MCU movies I have grown to appreciate & like the Avengers I have started reading Avengers Comics that came out around 2012 & I have been buying & reading trades like Young Avengers , Force Works , Age of Ultron & Al Ewing's Ultimates .

I just finished watching the series. I absolutely hate it. But sad that Marvel went through that much trouble. I did find out the shows was a multi verse instead of INE universe aside from some pair ups. Hawkeye was the absolute worst in the show. Hated every time he talked. There was even scenes where they left on and they just completely erased from the next episode. Also no one mentioned anything about the Zodiac until Hawkeye says its the Zodiac again but they acted like they've never knew about them from the Iron man episode and didn't even know that they were facing against them. Sorry that the Marvel shows of the 90s had to end that way but that was really a disaster that had to go. Glad Earth's mightiest heroes did the job. Wished it had the 3rd and 4th season though. Why not revive that for Disney+?

Yeah the 1990s was a very weird time for marvel comics and really wasn’t great for their comics division but I do agree marvel animation was really good but oh boy avengers united we stand was just a complete and utter trainwreck.

I have also cover The United they stand comics years ago on my KZbin channel and would say with # 1 was more of a prequel and some issues had stories with black widow the origin of wonder man and also cover a story with doctor doom

Aside from the shoulder pads, it wasn't that bad. I cannot fault it, it was very 90's, such past millennium, so action figures, wow! And we got The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes next, and Earth's Mightiest Heroes is Earth's Mightiest Heroes .

If I could pick a different line up for this series Avengers, I'd keep Ant-man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Vision, but the rest are pretty much forgettable. I'd replace them with Black Widow, Black Panther, and Quicksilver.

When a network sees they have a show on its last legs, I wish they'd let that show give one big, no limits try to suddenly get noticed. In the case of having several shows holding on by a thread, why not let them do a major crossover and epic story? Worse case scenario it still gets cancelled. Can you imagine if they'd had Spider-Man unlimited team with Avengers United to tackle that Godzilla? (Heck and have it turn out to be Young Hercules' enemy behind it all)
