I noticed all your videos you have a handle bar light on your bikes. Why is that, when so many of the bikes have integrated lights. What brand do you use?
@scotthardesty
@scotthardesty 6 ай бұрын
@@thecrazyandwildtwo2182 Here in Chicago, I like to have a light that is strobing to get drivers attention. Although all these bikes have headlights, none of them strobe so it's an extra layer of safety. I use various ones but this one is my favorite because it has a screen that tells you exactly how long the strobe will last at the battery level it is at. amzn.to/3TPyk2V

Scott, I gotta tell ya....Without being too long winded, what I love about your videos is YOU! You're a man of a "certain age" , no spring chicken and when you test a bike, you might be out of breath, you might be tired and you might not make it look easy, but you make me feel it can be done! No excuses! So much so, I went out and purchased a Black Aventure myself. Sorry, I didn't use your link. I make every attempt to support local brick and mortar shops, so I purchased it locally. Just my way of contributing! Anyway, I too am a man of a "certain age" and you inspire me! Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching!

Limiting the Abound to class 2 is really disappointing; that alone might make me choose Lectric Xpedition over the Abound. The Abound’s front suspension, torque sensor, excellent fit and finish, and higher quality components make the decision difficult. I just really wish it was class 3 (with a two-battery setup.)

Do I need a cargo e-bike? No. Do I want a cargo e-bike… I do now. That color is beautiful and those accessories are great. The racks and those huge panniers make the bike so useful. The only thing I’d like to see added to the racks are a quick detachable type setup like Harley uses for their passenger sissy bars, as an example. Other than that they’ve pretty much thought of everything. As far as helmets go, built-in visors are better suited to full face helmets, imo. I prefer to wear a ball cap or sun visor under my bike helmet as opposed to the helmets with the built-in visors. That helmet looks good with a hat or visor under it. The built-in headlight is cool too. Is it rechargeable or does it use standard batteries? Great review, Scott!
@scotthardesty
@scotthardesty Жыл бұрын
The Panniers can be released quickly if you don't use the additional velcro straps. For the helmet, you plug it in to recharge... nice feature. Also, that visor on the helmet is separate. It comes with the helmet and I attached it since I don't wear ball caps under my helmet like you do. Thanks for watching!

Someone who would use the bike for transportation would obviously want the bike to be able to go 30 mph, unless they are 89 years old, maybe...I find bikes that can go 35mph and keep up with traffic on back roads or city streets to be the safest, because distracted, angered, psycho's are not passing you ever 3 seconds....If your old and joy riding, maybe that is different, but you could still go 20 mph if you want, why not let the person decide, instead of trapping everyone in the same box..I like the Lectric Xpedition better..Being able to travel 20 miles in an hour and thirty miles in an hour is a big difference for those trying to replace a car and help have a future, which is doubtful, but impossible without atleast trying...Just sayin'...

I just purchased the Aventon Abound today. I walked into the bike shop to look at another bike, but when I test drove the abound, I was sold! Such a smooth, quick, and powerful bike with different settings to choose from for your journey like echo, cruise sport, and turbo. I also installed the kid rail seat in the back and took my some son on a nice long journey, which he loved to death. He didn't want to go home while we were out cruising. Money well spent!

I’m seriously considering selling my car and getting an e-bike to use alongside public transport in my city. The only problem is that I work rather far out from the city limits and my school is outside of city limits. (And Baltimore is not known for being terribly bike friendly) I’m just so tired of feeling chained to my car. I enjoy having a car, but I can barely afford the maintenance. Selling it would save me monthly expenses AND give me a nice chunk of change. Anyone in the comments have experience going carless?

I will say that I think it's a bit ironic that I just got my Aventure 2, and then Aventon releases a cargo bike, something that I'm finding the Aventure 2 kind of struggles with. You would think that if they're going to include a rear rack, it would be something that's easy to strap stuff to. I don't know about anyone else, but I find it really tough to get a velcro strapped bag onto the rear rack of the Aventure due to how little clearance there is between the rear fender and the rack, and the seeming lack of any kind of adjustment option to increase that gap. All that being said, perhaps I just have a cheap bag, and I'm hopeful that my trip down to the local bike shop will reward me with something that'll fit my needs. On the subject of this video, and for the benefit of others taking a look, does this one also have the exposed underside wiring that the Aventure 2 has? Thanks for the video, and belated congratulations on the marriage! Wishing you and the missus all the best. :)

Both have the same quality of parts and components. I would go for the Aventure 2 Step-thru. I believe you would feel more secure and safe riding that one.

@@scotthardesty thanks for the input Scott! The cargo bikes are what I have been looking at because they can carry more weight...but the components of the adventure bike (being a bit more rugged), I feel can hold up just as well. Especially with the thicker tires

I really enjoyed the video, and I'm going to do a test drive this week!! :D Wish you'd of done some mounts/dismounts on camera...it weighs 81 lbs, right? I'm 5'4 inch older lady...also, is the stand easy to use? I wonder what it'd be like to stop when it's loaded. Adjust the seat then, at a red light? Thanks, I love the helmet and the dogs, too. Did Aventon give you the bike free? Kinda hard not to like it, if it's free... '

After multiple uses with this bike, I can give some insight for your questions. On a grocery run, I put 4 cases of bottle water on the bike. 2 cases of 24 bottles and 2 cases of 12 sparkling water. Also added groceries to the panniers. I don't really seeing people doing this amount of weight but I like to experiement. The bike was very unstable to start moving but once I was going I was good. Stop signs definitely had me putting my feet on the ground for stabilization. I don't really use the drop seat. It also takes awhile to get used to the center stand. Yes, companies send me these bikes for free to review so I understand your thought process. I do not use that to dictate how I review a bike. As a matter of fact, these companies do not see my review until it's public nor do they have any input on my reviews. This is why I point out the good and bad of bike. I really appreciate you watching and I hope I was able to answer your questions.

We have to wait a while before we buy one but my lady and I really want one of these. I have a Level Step-Through that I use as a daily commuter and for pleasure rides, I have had it since May 2022 and it has 7,600 miles and is still going strong. Last night I bought the Quietkat 48v Solar Charger which I am really looking forward to receiving! I have been going on long distance tent camping trips with my Level this summer and have stayed at campground tent sites with an electric outlet but now I won't need that. I'm hoping that is the case. Last trip was to Gettysburg Battlefield, two batteries and 85 miles, I camped for three days and it was fantastic. I was the only person there at the time that rode in on an E-bike so many people wanted to chat about it. Anyway, I'm hoping to own one of these cargo bikes within a couple months.

@@scotthardesty I do film my trips with my Gopro but I haven't shared my footage on YT. I may do that at some point, editing programs aren't something that I am super familiar with although I do own a PC that is built for that. Maybe this winter I'll go through the footage and post some of it. I am replying while at another campsite actually, 😏. For now, I enjoy content like yours. I'm a big Aventon fan. Seeing content of you riding the Abound more I would enjoy!

Scott, one thing I would suggest for you and any rider is a GPS locater put in the frame. That way if it gets stolen you can notify the police. Not that they would really do their job, but it might help getting your bike back.

Your video review of this bike is the best one I’ve seen so far. And I’ve watched half a dozen already. You showed real life uses by putting the water and blanket on there to see how well it does and I like the extra accessories you showed including the helmet, thank you so much! I was comparing this bike to the Radrunner since they’ve been making e-bikes a lot longer and supposedly a reputable company, but now I’m really sold on the Abound because it has more features and benefits - it’s a BEAST going uphill. Because I need that living in the Rockies towing a kiddo. 😊
@scotthardesty
@scotthardesty Жыл бұрын
heck yeah man. I even did a comparison video with the Abound against the new Velotric Packer 1. The Abound was faster and climbed hills better. It didn't as quick nor was it as comfortable but man, it has some torque.

I can see this being a good choice in my situation, because running those types of errands to and from a town five miles away is my intended e-bike use. However, I'm going to disagree about the kickstand. I've test ridden a Trek model with that kickstand, and found it to be a big annoyance/ drawback. That design would be worse on a bike with 140 pounds on the back, that you'd have to lift up to put the kickstand down, and then again to raise kickstand up to start riding. You also have to be off the bike to use the kickstand, even if you have no load. Aventon should consider switching to a normal kickstand on both sides, and eliminate the need to lift the e-bike. With a load in back, I also think a bigger wheel/tire should be up front than what's in the rear, to balance ride better. Latter tire idea is just an opinion because I haven't experienced it, but the kickstand is a real shortcoming that I have experienced.
@scotthardesty
@scotthardesty Жыл бұрын
Hmmmm. Here is how I worked the kickstand. Once I had the weight on the bike, I just put my foot in front of the kickstand (which was already down) then pushed the bike forward and the kickstand sprang right up. When I stopped, I put the kickstand down, put my foot behind it, and then pulled backward on the handle on the back of the seat and the bikes weight put it on the kickstand really easily. I didn't have to lift up the bike at all.

Hi there. Very helpful review. Did you get the extra battery? If so, is there a way to store on the bike without using the bags or rack? Will it fit where your bike lock is?
@scotthardesty
@scotthardesty Жыл бұрын
I do have an extra battery as it uses the same battery as my Aventure. There is no way to connect it to the frame like you want. Not sure how someone would do that. If I think I am going to need it, I will put it in my side bag wrapped in a towel for cushion.

Currently have a Propella 9s Pro to commute around Chicago, but I feel that the potholes really get me. How does this do with a load and front suspension? Things tend to want to fly out of my rear basket with my bike.

I recently bought a cargo net for the back rack. All the attachments are super solid on this bike, I think it's tied down you will be super pleased. The front fork really makes riding these Chicago roads much more manageable, especially when there is weight on the bike. Since you live in Chicago, hit me up, and I let you ride mine.

Do you think the 2.4 tires make it not as stable? I’m thinking the front suspension might make up for some of that, and seat suspension could also be added. I think I’m going to get this bike and wonder if 2.4 tires will suffice. (Are 3 inch tires also compatible w bike and fender , I wonder?) Also do you know if those inner tube guards and slime can be put int? Thank you.
