Hey there Redditch Scroller, thanks for getting in touch. We can see what you mean about children having to climb in and out of the bikes, however the great thing about our cargo bikes is the safe and stable designs they offer thanks to the study stands. This makes climbing in and out of the bikes a fun challenge for the children which they actually enjoy! Many of the bikes such as the Tern GSD have foot steps that assist the children and give them a helping hand too.

As someone who does as much as I can already with a regular manual bike with a large selection of racks, bags and three trailers to choose from I am seriously thinking about going electric. But my gawd, these prices are eye-watering. I can buy a second hand Leaf for less than one of those that will still give me more range, carry five passengers in all weather plus a large boot. Plus I won't have to worry about it being locked to a sign post outside of where I work from all night doing 13 hour shifts. And no, there's nowhere better to park it. These are phenomenally overpriced for what you get. And it seems to me that the more government's increase the subsidies to buy these, the faster the prices keep outstripping these subsidies. Appealing to middle class green anxiety perhaps over cost-benefit realism? Theft is a huge concern both for the bike in it's entirety or for the battery or major components. I could with confidence park a £70,000 Tesla outside where I work from all night but one of those bikes..........? I'd be a nervous wreck waiting for the morning when I return and there it is. Gone! I work in security so I'm kinda one of the good guys but give me a chisel and a heavy block hammer and I guarantee you that I will have any of those batteries out in about 30 seconds. There will be huge damage to the bike but why the hell should I care, I got my battery. Easy money 👍 The key locking cover isn't worth sh1t if someone wants it and knows how to go about getting it with maximum force. I see it all the time in my job. Sorry for being just a little bit cynical and a little disillusioned by the hype over the reality but I also call it being realistic and honest. Also running costs are higher than most people expect. I'm hearing figures for £3-500 every 3,000 miles plus generally another £1-2,000 for a complete motor and battery upgrade every 10-15,000 miles. These would be horrendously high maintenance costs for any second hand car that cost the same to buy! And insurance will be an absolute necessity for everyone who buys one of these. As I said, I'm a huge enthusiast for encouraging more utilitarian use and commuting by bikes of all kinds and I'm definitely going electric myself later this year. Possibly a self build conversion but we'll see. That would have more to do with me being a little bit taller than the average bear and there's very few options available in my ideal sizing. All despite my heavy hearted realism. Oh and those 3 fun sized superstars were just fantastic!

Hi T Connolly, thank you for taking the time to watch our video and provide those insights. You do make some valid points, however, we don’t agree with some of them. Hear us out…. There’s no shying away from the fact that electric cargo bikes are an investment and you are paying for quality and reliability, not to mention the residual value they hold after 2, 3, 4+ years. You could get a second-hand Leaf, but you still have the same issues of traffic jams, parking, servicing, insurance. Yes, you can carry more people, but there is a trade off. The joys of an eBike mean that you can carry a heftier lock if you do need to lock it up for prolonged periods of time. The Hiplok D1000 is very popular with its anti-angle grinder material. You could also look into getting a motorcycle chain and shackle like some of our staff with cargo bikes. If the worse happens and the bike was stolen, our insurance provider, Laka, provide quick and hassle-free claims to get you back on the road asap. We always recommend taking batteries with you if you plan on leaving your bike unattended for a longer duration. They’ve got so much lighter in recent years so can easily fit into a backpack or slot into your office drawer. In terms of costs - the average cost of owning and running a car in the UK is £3556 a year (NOT including the purchase). The cost of running AND buying an electric cargo bike such as a Benno Boost E can be as low as £128 a month over 4 years. We’ve done a video on this in more detail that I think would be of interest to you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3nGdZp5f7aef5Y As I say, you make some valid points and they are not accessible to absolutely everybody, but with creative ways to pay and the cost-savings made against their comparative modes of transport, not to mention the physical and mental health benefits that cycling brings, they really are the future. Please do drop us an email if you’d like to chat further: info@fullycharged.com, or pop into one of our stores if you’re local and we’d love to have a chat over a coffee!

A good battery costs around £700 how on earth do you get a quality frame, components, warranty, r and d, motor, and a dealer margin, shipping, and all those important things to be able to create a realistic purchase price…? Not possible. A good eCargo Bike should cost a minimum of £5000 (new) anything less than that should not be considered especially for carrying around precious cargo.
@jorgemendoza325 Жыл бұрын
Not true.
@thebigoaktree840110 ай бұрын
I agree with above statement about their legitimacy. Just a proven quality dual battery set up from Bosh (industry leading battery producer) alone can easily cost that much depending on the wattage. These are high quality German companies producing these products with decades of experience. Selling Lectric in Europe is like trying to sell a Chevy Cavalier to a Porsche, Mercedes, or BMW owner. Not going to happen. Lectric bikes are a low end money grab electric bike. Those bikes would never successfully pass the European Electric bike regulations and standards criteria. Honestly, there have been numerous fires in NYC surrounding cheap e-bikes that will surely influence the creation of US regulations concerning acceptable e-bike standards.

Hi @VengD, We'd say most of these bikes are mid to high-range. They're built to last so we'd suggest through spreading the cost, many of these bikes end up being pretty affordable! Especially when compared to Rolls Royce, Chevorlet's, The Tube, Taxis, etc. That being said we don't offer any cargo bikes without Bosch, so don't cater for the lower end of the market. There are some options that will get you around town without blowing up! We'd suggest to make sure you're buying from a reputable shop and manufacturer who can offer you proper support if something did go wrong.

I live in Berlin. Leave any of these out over night and they will be gone in the morning. I also have an issue with safety. These things can weigh up to 50kg plus. With rider, bike and extra occupants, a collision with a pedestrian would be lethal. Yet in the event of an accident the cyclist will most likely not have any insurance. Personally I think all ebikes must be insured for accidents.

All of our front-loading cargo bikes come with harnesses when configured with child seats. If you use child seats on a rear loader then they usually come with harnesses too. The bench seats do not, however this is usually used by bigger kids, and they would be positioned behind you.
