Aventon Ramblas Trail Ride

I've had my ramblas for about a month now and I got rid of the pop up seat and went with a suntour suspension post, I also put on a set of continental kyptotal tires, better palm type grips (forgot who makes them from Germany) also went with a rock bros seat, mo betta for my 74 year old butt. In Oct. I'm headed out to flow heaven road 18 in Fruita CO, can't wait although we do have some great trails here in Boulder where I ride mostly!

I live in California where there is lots of rocks and techy sections on the trails. I am also used to riding nice full suspension bikes but am looking at the aventon ramblas, if I replaced to fork for a high end rockshox zeb and the tiers for tubeless would you say it’s capable and almost as comfy as a full suspension? Please help 🙏 thanks

Having watched several reviews of the Ramblas, one thing that bothers me is all the clattering on rough surfaces. It doesn’t inspire confidence in the longevity of the bike.

Sorry since riding a full suspension I can never go back to a hard tail. Night and day difference. More than worth the extra 🤑

to each his own...............My first e-mtb was a full-suspension. Rode it for 5 years and now ride a hardtail. Love the difference in acceleration compared to a fs. + battery life is superior comparing equal batteries. I'm running 27.5 x 2.8 tires which gives me a super comfortable ride........even on chunk and gnarl (just have to get off the seat)

Curious if you were riding the stock coil shock. I saw a video of the Aventon shop and one of their guys had upgraded to a 150mm Rock Shox Lyrik along with Industry 9 wheels with a tubeless setup. I know that the stock shock is a Rock Shox 130mm coil, which is probably one of the first things I would swap out, especially since it has no lock-out for the climbs.

No we swapped out the fork for an air fork. We are currently using a Rockshox Yari 150mm

There was a bit of clatter noise coming from the bike, was that the chain or the battery? How “quiet” is it in real trail conditions?

I want to drop the motor and check out the cables because I feel like I had a cable rattling against the frame. That being said the trail I rode is very rough/rocky, I don’t feel that the people who own this bike would be riding trails this rough. Definitely designed for a more flow trails.

This bike weighs 50lbs and the riding he’s doing here is certainly pushing this bike to its limits. I wouldn’t recommend riding the bike on rocky, uphill trails like this unless you are under 200lbs. He’s also taking it off a few 5 foot drops, it’s for sure going to rattle. I also hear the battery door could be better. Probably what is rattling. This is probably the best commuter/light trail bike for the price and what you get right now.

You can totally run tubeless on this bike so I'm not sure what the issue is? Thanks for the review

Do you have the bike set up tubeless? Aventon states that they are not tubeless compatible wheel. I also tried to set them up with Maxxis’s highest end tires and couldn’t get it to bead up properly. We now have some industrynine wheels on the bike set up tubeless

Aventon has confirmed the rims are not too tubeless compatible.

@@richardwebb3013 They're double wall rims. I'm sure you can run them tubeless with enough tape and sealant.

When you said you tried to get it set up tubeless you mean you tried taping the rim and it still wouldn’t work?

Correct. Tubeless tape, valves, sealant. We are a bike shop that does at least 15-20 tubeless set ups per week. The problem is with the wheels. We have tubeless compatible wheels now and are having no problems!

Thanks for getting back with me! Just bought this bike and was looking into what I'll need to budget for. Looks like some new rims and wheels at the minimum if I want to run tubeless.

@@stevenconnor4855 The wheels are not tubeless compatible. These wheels only use tubes. No problems with the wheels just can’t be setup tubeless.

Wheels unfortunately just aren’t compatible. We tried but wasn’t able to get the tires to bead in anyway. We now have a set of a i9 wheels on the bike.

@@stevenconnor4855 Nope. I have the highest end Maxxis tires on the bike. The tires are tubeless compatible but not the rims. Feel free to email Aventon asking if the wheels can be set up tubeless.
