Now it makes sense. If you die to the bear and go fight him again, he will complain how he hasnt even ate lunch and gets annoyed having to fight

As an American who wasn't that familiar with the Journey to the West, Black Myth Wukong has been a treat, and hearing people who grew up with the story and know it backwards and forwards geek out about all of the little easter eggs and call backs to the original story or the TV production from the 80's is such a wonderful experience that is both informative and endearing. Thank you!

@AvenueX Game Science should really make you BM: Wukong ambassador and head of English translation to double check translation texts throughout the game. You have made us realize so much details this game has put their efforts into just to stay true to the novel. Another huge respect should be given to Game Science for that. This is just a masterpiece of art and cultural entertainment and not just a video game.

Feels like no one really notices that in the beginning of the animation, the toad jumped across a dead body's hand. I wonder if that suggests that the wealth given to the young monk by the bear was ill-gotten in the first place.
@ChaseYu3 ай бұрын
Players/gamers who playing the game perhaps didn’t notice, but us-the audience who simply watched the whole thing sure did. While that scene only lasted for a sec or two, it may implied the place where the black bear resides, and there are some people risking their lives for treasure and ending up gotten killed in that place. But then again, for me, personally, I kinda feel like that implied something else other than the wealth is ill-gotten, especially when a kid is catching a frog in a dark place and then there’s dead bodies, and yet the kid monk didn’t even bother or care for it a bit. I don’t know if that’s rather to say that the kid monk got the “Buddha mentality” or “he doesn’t give a sh*t about other’s life”, cause as we all comes to know later that he wanted to kill another monk for a kasaya 😅
Some CCs have mentioned it. Next to that hand there are many scattered ancient Chinese coins too. Moreover, if you increase the brightness of the scene where the bear appears, you will see a destroyed carriage next to it with other dead bodies. The extent of the damage to the carriage indicates that it was done by this huge bear. While the bear offers the money to the young monk, it looks towards the distant temple, indicating to the monk to use this money to seek his future at the temple. In the setting, this bear is very clever and single mindedly wants to learn Buddhism. The young monk he coincidentally encounters is the network he establishes for his own development

This explains so much thank you. I have no background info about journey to the west, only played the game but regarding the animation at the end. I thought the black bear was an evil spirit that corrupted the monk to greed and they became one. I had no idea jin chi zhang plotted to kill sun wukong to take the kasaya. It just seemed like he was gifted the kasaya and he fell into material desire and greed. I also had to go back and watch the animation again because i had no idea his silhouette appears in smoke as the temple was burning down. The last scene of the animation of the bear talking to the mountain god was confusing too. But your explanation of the book's story and the game's cleared it up and is so interesting. I cant wait for the next video.

The first chapter really made me cry for the abbott 🥲 like reading the original or watching this moment in JTTW dramas makes him and his disciples very easy to hate because yknow, obstacles to the main cast. But Black Myth's take on the aftermath of it really heightens the tragic aspect of the monastary's burning. Kind of foul but funny for the devs to make one of Jinchi's attacks a headbutt considering how he dies

I thank you for these details and background infos, this is really needed since I am completely new to this kind of Chinese story. I play games mostly for the unique story telling that is possible in video games, and Black Myth Wukong promises to be good in that regard. I absolutely love „the side story of Fox Volant“ so I have high hopes for this game. It is also my first souls-like so it will probably take a while (took me multiple hours to beat the wandering wight and today I didnt quite beat whiteclad noble) I can‘t stand the typical (western) fantasy setting - in my opinion I lose any emotional investment in a story if I know that at any point in the story some magical element can appear that somehow saves the most hopeless situations. For the moment black myth wukong feels like I have to learn and memorize a lot of lore to even enjoy the story, hopefully that changes once I progress. I will watch you next video once I am further in the game.

After finishing the game, my view of Guanyin in Journey to the West has completely shifted. What Guanyin did is actually no different from what Yellow Brows did in chap 3 animation: she gave the kasaya to Tang Sanzang specifically to bait out Elder Jinchi's greed. She knew exactly what was going to happen-the hundreds of monks being burned alive-but showed no mercy. To her is just one of the 81 trials she set for the crews, nothing else matters.
@therminust43 ай бұрын
Bodhissatva Guanyin, Lingji, Maitreya, Pilanpo, etc just show the guides, not directly interfere Fate & Karma are back to reach by itself Destinied one need several rebirths to reach the goal and probably in BMW Guanyin disguise as Elder Monkey, which give guide & test Destinied one tried by himself to continue wukong faith in circlet seal or be freedom

since you've finished the game it became a retrospective in the original stories and the new expanded ones that the buddhas motives are just as bad as the celestial heaven. If you don't comform to their ways and teaching you will be subdued.
@nguyentai4643 ай бұрын
No it's not like that . Guanyin even help Wukong return the Kasaya from black bear . Of course this is one of 81 trial but Guanyin has nothing to do with this , she does not create 81 trial for Monki and Tang Sung . Everything is just karma and she can not interfere what has to happen . And there's a reason why she gave him the kasaya he needs to bring it to the end to finish the journey

Hi AvenueX, everything in this video is great! Just one thing to point out, apparently has been misleading lots of people, Erlang and Wukong didn’t come up with a plan together to kill Wukong. It was Wukong’s plan on his own. Erlang said that he didn’t know about Wukong’s plan until after the battle. Basically, Erlang only figured that Wukong staged his death after Erlang took Wukong’s memories. That’s why he had to ask Maitereya for advice and Maitereya advised him to go contemplate on Mount Mei.
@LightBrand3 ай бұрын
Yeah I don't get how people interpret it that way from the secret ending. In the animation showing their conversation following the crash into the mountain, presumably outside of range of everyone ErLang is still talking adversarial to Wukong and Wukong said watch me take off this headband like a dare. How is that close to them using that time to conspire together?
@swkmjlotr23673 ай бұрын
@@LightBrandExactly, unfortunately so many people have been misled by this conspiracy theory. I hope Avenue X sees this comment. Again, it was Wukong’s plan, Erlang said he only learned after the fact and then he decided to help preserve Wukong’s memories.
