Chinese pantheon is just a never ending list of bureaucrats mirroring the real life bureaucracy. It's hilarious because of how many levels they put into it. You have these awesome dragon kings who are in charge of an ocean or maybe all the clouds in the sky, but then you have another level of lower ranked dragons who are like in charge of rivers and the lakes, and then yet another lower rank maybe in charge of the ponds, and then you go into your own backyard and under YOUR OWN WELL, there is like a super duper low ranked dragon and all he does is to be in charge of your well! That's why a bunch of them are scared of or get bullied by Wukong because that well dragon is like super small fry compared to how powerful the monkey is.

If anyone was like me struggling to find a good playthrough series where they use Chinese audio and know enough about the novel, adaptations, and Chinese history + mythology to understand and explain everything that is going on; I highly recommend Serious Trivia. He even plays with Chinese subs which adds a whole new layer of immersion. He explains all the concepts, dialogue, differences between novel and adaptations, and each “monster” very well.

Journey to the West 1986 taught me a lot of things, one of them is patience, because every time I see the Tang monk I feel the urge to slap him myself because he keeps getting himself in trouble: keep trying to get out of the Ring of Fire every time Wukong told him not to, he is very annoyingly stubborn, extremely naive and ironically have low self-awareness and control.

Nowadays my mum doesn't watch chinese dramas anymore, so neither do I... So I don't click on AX's videos recommendations anymore once I see the drama cover on it. Once in a while when she makes cultural stuff that is of interest to me I'll watch it... But just as I said, her videos are mostly very niche to a lot of audience... 31:30 The first playthrough, the Pagoda Realm really shook me. The design, the atmosphere and the sound made me rethink about my life fr. Despite being curious and wanting to explore like the other chapters, I really wanted to escape this part of the chapter as quick as possible. I believe that Kang Jin Long being a woman in the game is a reference to the Venus deity/Taibai's original gender before she was changed into an old man as in the original Xi You Ji novel - this is what I recalled from an earlier Avenuex video on the cosmology of the Xi You Ji novel. I agree with the monk in the animation. You cannot draw a bull to prove tigers exist. Plus, I think Yellowbrow pulled some shenanigans on that first dude. He was not drunk with greed, he was not licking his lips, he was entranced and not acting like someone in any control of their facilities. Maybe the human was fighting the spell that was taking control of him.

A bit of correction on the animation style for the chapter 3 animation. The style isn't Ghibli animation style where chapter 4 is definitely inspired by Ghibli. Hiromatsu Shu is the director for chapter 3's animation and the style is closer to a recent animation he directed called Biaoren (Bodyguard), which is actually based off a Chinese comic. Similar styles are often found in Science Saru or Mad House animation's works.

I've a question regarding the non disciples. This video made me realize that their names are supposed to mirror Tripitakas followers. Non-void mirrors wukong because wukong has emptiness or void in his name, non white because the white dragon, and non pure because sha wujing has purity in his name. I don't understand the correlation between Zhu Bajie and Non-Able, though, since all I can find is that Zhu Bajie's name means Pig of 8 precepts or prohibitions because of the Buddhist diet imposed on him.

悟能(bajie’ other name given by the monk ) and 不能( the bad guy from yellowbrow’s side). And so, 「 能 」 is that character that both side shared, and one of the meanings of 能(neng) is able.

Zhu Wuneng was the name given by Guanyin, then he later met up with Tang Monk and he gave him another name - Zhu Bajie like what you explain, this name is more popular. Wuneng and Buneng (Yellowbrow's disciples) having "neng" which means able/ability. Wukong - Bukong, Wuneng - Buneng, Wujing - Bujing. The "悟" (wu) means understanding or enlightment while the "不"(bu) means no, none or as a adjective to say the contract meaning of something. Yellowbrow really hates Tang Monk lol

In the book it's a he or unspecified really, cause male "he" in classic chinese represents all third persons including both genders and animals, so it technically can be both, but usually without specifying it's a she then people tend to read it as a he, the statue in the temple for this constellation is the hair flying up angry looking one, looking more like a female than male, but say if it is male it would still work. Game kang Jin long lady looks actually more like the statue for the rat deity, particularly the hair style

When you cover the episode about the game's secret boss, some stuff comes out of its eye. The stuff says a lot of stuff, in one voice, but many. I do not speak Chinese but could you try to decipher what is being said? SPOILERS FOR MORE SPECIFICITY I can't make it out clearly in English, but the last moments are clearrly Wukong saying he's going to rip off and break his headband, but EXACTLY before his says that, it seems like he is talking to Guanyin. That would be very important for the conclusion of the game, but I don't want to assume. It would be better to know what he says in Chinese.

In these two chapters of 65-66 and next chapter 67, the author of Journey to the West is full of bad taste and dirty words. Yellow-Brow's magic weapon "Human Seed Bag" is described as a saddle bag placed on the horse in the novel. This kind of bag placed on the horse is "two bags". Note that it is "two bags", not one bag in the game. He uses a "wolf-tooth club". If you put them together, what will you see? Well, it is a man's sexual organ. "Human Seed"? Isn't it just sperm?!!! And what is the "golden cymbal"? It is a woman's uterus. When Sun Wukong is imprisoned in it, he will be turned into "blood", which is actually a woman's "menstrual blood".
