Slice Of My Life: This video would not be possible without Yong Qiang and Hoongfu - thank you guys for the prybars. Special mention to my man Gman as well for calling it out and asking me how's my prybar carry going.
If you guys are interested, please check out Minh Do's Etsy store:

Just in case, the multi-tool I showed is the Gerber Prybrid Utility. Pick it up on most online knife webstores, or Amazon.

I had a prybar in my EDC pouch for a two years and I never used it, it only added weight so I sold it few months back. Since then I still didn't have a need to use one. Everything I need (opening cans, removing smaller nails,...) I can do with my Leatherman Surge or Wave (surge for work, wave for EDC). So I think for an average person, prybar is useless, they also tend to be heavy, so for you guys who are building your EDC kit right now, I would wait before buying a prybar. Buy it, when you realize you need it at least once in a month and have nothing else to solve your task with. Otherwise save your money and buy good multitool instead.

The reason for me to use prybar so often is to open boxes. My work environment requires me to often open boxes to check things. Once i get so used to using prybar...i become too lazy to open my knife. I can just grab my prybar and use it. Sometimes not so often use itu to tighten bold and nut bold. But i can understand for many people prybar is just useless.

This is the main reason I use a pry bar, working in a retail store throughout the day i often need to break down boxes and our store policy is that were only allowed utility knives... which i find heavy and bulky and since I already carry a folding knife daily I really dont want to also carry a utility knife. A pry bar is at least another tool in the EDC arsenal so its less redundant then carry multiple blade types and depending on where you are and what your doing theres just certain environments/situations you may not want to pull out a knife whereas a prybar is much less altering, cutting something with a pry bar is vary discreet not much different then using your keys to cut something but much more effective then keys are at cutting. And though ive always been vary careful and cautious not to pry with my knife tips, if its all you have your gonna use it and over the years ive found myself in situations from time to time where i needed to use my knife for prying tasks, its rare but does happens and although usually things will be fine once you break a tip on a knife you really like youll wish you had invested in a edc pry bar sooner.

For my lifestyle I don't need to edc a prybar. Its nice to have around as a homeowner because I can scrape paint/epoxy/open mason jars etc. I have actually used a Minh Do mini prybar as a philips bit driver because I needed to undo a screw in a very narrow space behind my washing machine. A normal length screw driver would not fit.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! To an extent, I share the same sentiments as you do, however, this video was made quite some time ago and from then till now, I've actually met some people who do use prybars often in their daily lives so that has changed my perspective quite a bit. For me now, I will always be honest and say that I have no use for prybars given my personal lifestyle.

@@avgsgn i get it. I had to make up things to "pry". For instance; opening a soda can with the bar instead of my fingers and thumb, or purposely buying beer that required a bottle opener to open. Honestly, its was stupid. I've never used the screwdriver or hex wrenches.

@@Tom_H327 Hahahahahahaha DAMN! I must apologize, I actually chuckled. I've only ever actually used a prybar a couple of times - once I had to pry open a drawer that was stuck, and another time was to pry open the battery cover of a calculator because the coating of the gadget turned mushy and sticky. I guess those were situations where it's "better to have it and not need it, rather than to not have it when you need it"? But hahahahaha I totally get you with the "opening a soda can" one!

Damn. That’s some tight legislation there. Yeah, a prybar will prolly come in handy but at that point, maybe consider using your keys instead? IMO that’ll be more of an option based on convenience.

@@avgsgnActually I just bought a key shaped prybar to test out. We are allowed only to carry blades that are related to our work so funnily I can get by carrying a machete as a farmer on my town but not on cities. I had been looking at utility blades that I can easily dispose off and scissors as alternatives. Another one Id like is a folding saw with leatherman surge saw as a base.

Working in security my lynch nw pribar has been used a fair bit for getting Id from wallets that have been stuck in there and unlocking doors for people that have got stuck or been caught doing drugs in bathrooms and it’s been handy for scraping sharp surfaces off desks and random stuff as well as a make shift spoon can also be good if you don’t want to carry a Swiss Army knife because a lot of them have similar features

I have a little pry bar that I got for Christmas. Since then I've used it as a pry bar a few times...but does that justify daily carry? Not sure. But the one I have is about the same size as your smallest. The bit driver part of it I HAVE used quite a few times and was glad I had it though. I can't even remember what I pried aside from my gas tank cover was frozen shut one day and it fit right in there perfectly and some light wiggling loosened the door up.

I would only carry it as a makeshift self-defense tool if i couldn't carry a knife, but i would still prefer a flashlight or a tactical pen at that. Or even a marlin spike or metal 'toothpick'. If I'm in my workshop then yeah I'll have a pry bar close by, but otherwise... It's quite honestly almost useless. Also I've ground down my multitool's file to mini pry bar, does the job just fine if I ever have the need, and taking out a tool is faster than using my fingers.
@avgsgn
@avgsgn 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a really smart thing to do - to grind the file down to be a dual-purpose tool. To be honest - nowadays, given the local “climate”, I’m worried to carry even a marlin spike around.

@@avgsgn Knife carry is very restricted here in Portugal too, but nowhere in the world would anyone question why a handyman carries a hammer on his toolbelt, or why a sailor a marlin spike, or a painter a pry bar, or a night guard a tactical flashlight. It's all about context. Find something you do regularly and find a tool that would serve as a decent self defense weapon. Old? Walking cane Rain? Umbrella Plumber? Pipe wrench I ride a bicycle a lot and i presume i would be able to carry a bike lock around without anyone batting an eye. One of those thick wire ones might make a decent soft weapon to swing around

I agree. Most city people do not need prybars. I have high quality small ones obtained via Kickstarter campaigns years ago, about the same size and weight than my keys. Have wondered whether carrying a pry bar would be useful on a regular (enough) basis to make it worthwhile, paint cans are a rarity and you would be at home, removing nails while out and about as been accomplished easily without a pry bar, as a small scraper, SAK and Bibury wave clone have substantial screwdrivers. Most of my edc as evolved from finding a need and then looking for the best edc solution. Never buying a tool and then trying to find an excuse to use it. The tool that surprised me the most as been a small lumitop edc01 flashlight, comes in handy way more than I expected, you may think my phone as a light, trust me it’s not as good as a small flashlight. I have carried a Swiss Army knife for well over 30 yrs, before edc even became a thing, so useful on a daily basis to myself and others around me.

Thanks for making this Bro. We have similar lifestyles, although I work on computers in the office and manufacturing areas. Not many times where I'd need a pry bar either. I did need one last year as the network guy that sits in our area wanted to get into his office, and wanted to pry the door open between the door and frame. We ended up pulling the knob to get it open. I carry a leatherman tool since 1985 when I bought it, and it's been the most helpful tool I've ever carried. I'd consider buying a pry, although the only one I'd consider is the gen1 on the site. I wouldn't buy the other large one because it has a hammer claw on one end and pry on the other. It's not like yours where you can strike one end, which I think would be more practical. I'd be curious to see your EDC bag carry laid out this year. I believe you did a video last year on some of your smaller cases, but I don't remember one with the whole bag/backpack. Thank you for sharing in this slice.
