There is a spring in the clasp that isn't silver so when you pass the magnet over it will catch but it doesn't mean it's not silver hope that helps you out 🙂

Just watched the video and got a thrill out of it as you did, i use to buy Jewellery from Charity shops and on Ebay, to sell back on Ebay and go through it with a fine tooth comb, sometimes i struck lucky with some Gold. I would like to have seen the Sovereign style necklace and ring close up to see if i could recognise the coin as i collect coins too... Keep up the good work!

We fundraise using Silver and costume jewelry and find that silver clasps easily break. so yours could have been repaired at some point in time.

When showing jewellery you need more close ups, can’t see any of the pieces and we jewellery people need to see the pieces. Especially the vintage costume. Some of the named pieces are worth some good money. We really do need closeups. Check out the Funky Pickle, a masterclass in showing jewellery.

@@ABLReselling the modern (Chinese) bit of jewellery is probably all a bit sketchy. Lots of Chinese pieces are marked 925 - they’ve never been near real silver so they have to be tested. But you’re on safer ground with the Vintage pieces. They didn’t get up to as many tricks in those days - not to say never did. If you’re talking vintage costume, the named pieces are the ones to look out for. They can command some fabulous money. But even some named Avon pieces are valuable - you wouldn’t believe it .. Their is a hierarchy with the named pieces- you’ve just got to know what’s what. I’ve found some fabulous pieces, but I’ve found a thousand times more bog standard stuff!! Pardon me though, not trying to tell you your job, I’m just obsessed with vintage costume jewellery!!! 😂😂😂

From charity shops. A lot of the items come from house clearances. The shops do check them mostly, but because of sheer volume, it’s usually not checked fully and they only pick out the items of obvious value.

You seem to be finding lots of pieces with non-silver clasps. It’s unusual for a quality piece that’s sold as being 925 not to be 100% 925 sterling silver, unless of course it’s come from China!
