The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Great video! I've tried Maxel, Jigging Master, Accurate, Saltiga but I always go back to Ocea Jiggers for the smoothness even if they're a bit underpowered. I've had no issues pulling 80lb+ AJ with OJ2k PG with PE 2.5.

For small class reels don’t sleep on the low profile setups! Lexa’s and TranX’s are both affordable options for light jigging. I use a lexa 300hsp-wnn and it is a tank for hauling up those shallow water reef fish and at $180 ish price point it’s a great option

Great video, as always! I do have a minor use for a clicker, especially since I prefer lever drags. If I'm tying knots or messing about with split rings, the clicker allows me to pull controlled amounts of line off without touching the reel while the drag is off. Just acts as a light spool brake. Certainly not part of my reel selection but if it's there, that is how I benefit from it. It's crazy how many really nice reels there are to choose from right now. We are very fortunate!

Great video, thanks. I’ve only been jigging for about two years so I’m no expert. I’m on Florida’s west coast so things are a little different for us. The deepest we can normally fish is around 200’ so small class outfits are all we need. I have a couple Accurate SPJ’s and Diawa Lexa 3&400. The little Lexa 300 on the Johnny Jigs Pro Jigger #1 has become my “go-to” confidence rig. I’ve landed everything from Goliath Grouper, to big AJ’s, AP’s tuna and kingfish with it. At 12 ounces you can fish it for days and it has 28lbs of drag. As an added bonus the level wind system means you can let the newbies try it without the risk of messing up your line. That means more future SPJ enthusiasts who will become Johnny Jigs customers :) Mark B

Love your videos. Can you please make a series on rod and reels for different budgets? A lot of the stuff you featured is really expensive, and some just starting might not want to spend so much right off the bat.

What spinning reel would you recommend for a pe 2 slow pitch spinning jigging rod?
@slacktide7962
@slacktide7962 Жыл бұрын
None. SPJ is not designed for spinning tackle. If you like cranking with your left, try a left handed conventional reel

Johnny would you recommend those Jigging Reel without a line guide for a newbie in baitcasting ? Would you recommend the Shimano Traxx 401hg since this model comes with a line guide ? Thanks.

The line guide is definitely helpful. Check out this reel. johnnyjigs.com/products/maxel-armory It is an incredible reel. Every piece of it was well thought out.

Gives you the option for stronger line which can be very handy with thin braids but yeah no help if you're on 20lb line

im confused about getting the OJ 1500 or the OJ 2000. i fish the tropics in Bali and never go under 150 meters of water but the jigs get quite heavy (500-700g). can the smaller 1500 handle this type of jigs? any advice is welcome thank you!!

@bastiandejong-m6d

i went with the 2000 dude. i would say its the best all around but if i can say its less fun.. they thing is a tractor and just yanks fish out the water but there isnt much of a fight as you can put a thicker PE on it and you just crank.. if i were to buy again i would go with the 1500 personally and set the drag on it and have a more exiting time.. i think the 2000 would be suitable for deep deep fishing around 200m up. @@bringit3164

I'm not sure if they make it it in 4000 but if they did it would be called 4001. Shimano adds a 1 to all left hand reels
