Great video! Very informative. For those who have a stuck handle like me I ended up using a pulley/bearing puller.

Please do service BEFORE you have a stuck handle. I check all 13 handles before each trip, I bring oil on the boat and check them after trips. Mine spin like crazy.

Great video! My HXJ 5/2 bearings were so rusted they fell apart when taking them off. I had to break out the blow torch to get the inner sleeves off the shaft. It’s unbelievable how much of a difference proper handle bearings can make. Saved me from buying a new reel! Thanks again 😃

I was asked to service a reel on a ten day. The handle felt very odd. When disassembled I could only find pieces of the two bearings, small pieces. When finished, the lady indicated she could not believe how much it improved the reel. Thanks

Hi Mark, Great tuition…well done. Would you know what size the shaft thickness is in mm and also the length of the shaft. I was wanting to replace the original with a aftermarket ball type knob. Cheers John

do you know where i can get replacement knob cap screws?

Try Avet since they are odd.

Did Avet add a special lock nut after those three washers? Got a new HXJ and handle is not coming off and it looks like there is a locking nut that is the shape of a circle with one flat side holding the handle on.

Nevermind, they either heat mold the bearing to base of handle or glue it. Getting it off first time almost think you are going to bend handle.

Can you please list the part number and/or size of the two bearings. Mine are corroded and need to be replaced. Thanks for the video!

Thank you sir, def not being critical. Love your videos. Did both my avets yst. But only did handles LATE last night. Think I was getting tired and put in washers. After 2nd one was like wait, why did I put lock (spring) washer on bearing? lol. All good. Thanks for qualifying and Thanks again for the informative vids. They help a LOT of people!

Uh, when putting the washers back on, in the video( at 2:32), didn't you have it backwards(and OPPOSITE the way you showed them lined up at 1:31[which I believe is correct?])? The way the I think the vid shows you putting them back on, it looks like the "spring washer"(what I would call "lock washer"), would be resting against the bearing. Shouldn't that be reversed and resting against the nut? Thank you for any info. BTW you videos are EXCELLENT!! And very informative.

Bottom line - probably did it wrong in video. Just be sure the SMALLEST washer is at the bottom and the lock washer on top. It works for me every time.

Just replaced both bearings in a friend's reel and it is like new again. Be sure to have both the small and larger bearings in your reel repair kit just in case. By regularly oiling the junction between the rubber knob and the metal handle you prevent needing new bearings.

Is it okay to use inox mx8 grease on avet reels? I found some on amazon for $19.95.

That is one of my favorites. I also use Cal Sheets grease especially for drag washers.

I shot this video several times trying to get it right. I may have done it wrong one time and kept that take. The correct order from inside to out is: plain washer, keyed washer with squared off inner hole, lock washer that looks bent. Sorry for any confusion.

Though I have serviced my own reels for years, was a little unsure about taking apart my Avets. Your videos gave me confidence (and instruction lol) to do it correctly. Oh and now 2 of mine (SX n SXJ) work better then new!! Thank you for making Vid!!
