@bubblegumxo3 жыл бұрын
Honestly one of the biggest problems was that it DIDN'T feel like a Nerd episode. It felt like a cheesy and surprisingly boring b film that just happened to STAR the Nerd. I love James, but there's really no defending the movie, it was really bad. I say this BECAUSE I love him. Do you want a friend who isn't afraid to tell you that you have something in your teeth? Or do you want a friend who just kisses your ass, and pretends there's nothing in your teeth, while constantly staring? I had little expectations for his movie, but it turned out far worse than I imagined. I almost felt slight embarrassment when I first saw it. It's just a stain in his career that I want to forget. I too am happy he could at least make a movie. But I swear a lot of these fans just claim to like it, because they love James, and don't want to admit that this movie was a big letdown. Movie was just not good by any stretch, but that doesn't make me like James any less.

Tici Toty Tony I can't really put my finger on it, but I feel he has, and this video pretty much proved it to me. This feels like the old NC videos, as in I actually really enjoyed it. I think the sketches are bad, but they're a symptom. As I said, I can't quite distinguish why this video felt so much better than his other ones, but I think it just boils down to lack of focus in the newer ones. Instead of paying attention to the movie he's doing, he keeps going into tangents and related but not relevant rants. His really old videos were way too short, but at some point he found a sweet spot. This video was refreshing.

@blade36567 жыл бұрын
James was trying to capture those cheesy late movies. It clearly shows in the film with the special effects and the writing. However there are good things about the movie like some of the shots and the animation. This film is like a so bad its good type of film. For an example The Room. To be honest the film has an excuse because of a $300,000 budget.
@Freeethink7 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. You are saying he was going for a trash movie style. And I can totally get that people enjoy this. But your comment came off like people are not getting this point. But people do. They say the movie is a bad/mediocre trash movie. At least that's what I'm experiencing.
@anirudhviswanathan39867 жыл бұрын
All the guilty pleasures that we love are those that are not deliberately bad. It was a result of poor choices and skills inadequate to make a good movie, so when the makers think that it is good, it turns out to be bad. Trying to be bad at any profession, especially in film industry, never turns out to the person's expectation. Being deliberately bad is worse than just being bad, because in the former case, you are not even trying to do good work. These KZbin dudes need to actually try making a serious film. Look at Chris Stuckmann's Indiana Jones short films. He is actually trying to make a good movie, but did not have the knowledge or budget or talented crew needed, hence when it turns out to be bad, it REALLY IS HILARIOUS. To summarise, "it is supposed to be bad" is a lame ass excuse for not even trying to make a good movie. That makes this movie all the more worse.

Come on, everyone, stop being blinded by fandom!! I'm a fan of AVGN, too, but you can not HONESTLY say that this was a good movie. Just because you don't like something he made doesn't make you any less of a fan. Serving someone's ego by praising this kind of mediocrity only spawns more mediocrity. If you can make someone realize that a poor product will receive poor reviews and criticism, than you can motivate them to do better. I know that James is capable of creating something far superior to this garbage, so I refuse to pretend like this is "GOOD ENOUGH"
@ryantyminski40049 жыл бұрын
Kaz the ultimate cop out in the response of criticism "I'd like to see you do better". Uhh.... No. I would be no good at making movies, that's exactly why I DON'T DO IT lol. The intended audience us not required to make their own movie just to have an opinion. Is that how you think the world works. And how exactly an I being pretentious? The entire basis of my post was that i know he is more talented than that and can do better. You're response holds zero water. Go to bed.
@KazuyaMithra9 жыл бұрын
Ryan Tyminski Because its an indie film, not a film by a huge production house so I think you're really not giving enough credit where credit's due. Like c'mon man it was made by a bunch of dudes on the internet that took lots of effort to make and you're pretty much saying its objectively bad. You just sound like an asshole. I don't think its a perfect movie (those don't exist) but I swear all people do is bitch and take shit way too seriously. James has other personas than just the nerd and this whole thing encompasses why he loves film. You either appreciate it or you don't. PS I'm typing this in my bed.

" What a lot of people who criticize this movie don't understand is that it's really more of a "Cinemassacre: The Movie" and not just AVGN. It reflects James Rolfe's tastes in B-movies and low-budget practical effects and isn't just about his video game reviews. It's like a Troma movie and is entertaining in the same way those are. He wasn't TRYING to make a sharp, sleek blockbuster, just a celebration of his various tastes. But a lot of people felt betrayed that it wasn't more in the line of the AVGN reviews. I don't know what people were expecting, but I enjoyed it." A commenter here that I agree with

I have a lot of respect for James. He's a very talented guy and I've been enjoying his videos for years. But I have to come out clean: this movie sucked. When I first heard he was making a full length movie on the AVGN, I thought it was a terrible idea. AVGN works better in 10-minute pieces. A 2-hour movie is just way too long for this sort of thing. But that's the least of this movie's problems. It wasn't very funny, the plot was convoluted as shit, and it was just so boring. Even the ET review at the end wasn't very good. I know I couldn't make a better movie, but with all the hype and constant updates over the years, I was severely disappointed. I watched the recent Seaman review and laughed my ass off! Board James recently has been amazing. And I love the James and Mike Mondays videos. I can just write this movie off as a fluke and still enjoy the content the site has to offer. I'm just glad it's not holding him back anymore.

Genjuro T. No because the financial figures have been kept quiet, which is strange since every movie ususally publishes how much money it made, can't find anything for the Nerd movie. We know the movie cost around 356k according to some sites. Given the average ratings and the savage critique of this movie, especially around the editing, we can conclude the movie did averagely well, not bad for a first time movie. But given that it decimated normal production of Angry Video Game nerd episodes for years, he has almost certainly lost money and annoyed fans by the lack of content, movies take ages to make and can be very hit and miss, it is better to focus on a series financially and to build your fan base. Indeed even though the movie is over now, he still is content to sporadically do less and less Nerd episodes, replacing it with weekly lets play.
