That was probably "just another day at the office" for that pilot. Funchal pilots deal with these crazy winds like most pilots deal with a 5kt wind. Just be careful when opening the overhead bins as items would _most likely_ have shifted ...possibly onto the floor!
@kimjunguny7 жыл бұрын
This is not everyday flying for pilots. Those updrafts and downdrafts are not normal... the difference between the hot runway and cool sea probably caused them. Wind was probably not a problem for the pilots. But the uncertainty if a updraft/downdraft would be more concerning
@neyfaerie73464 жыл бұрын

@losttownstreet34098 жыл бұрын
Many planes are very slow on final. The landings which aren't too bad (wihout bouncing) put enough extra speed into the calculation. A fantastic job. The specs for the landing gear's are very hard and now I see why this isn't a joke. I dosn't like to crash with 7-9 m/s (wich may be the allowed max.) into the ground and prefer smouth landings (without any need for inspection of the structural integrity afterwards). I'd seen some people take the final direct against the wind-direction and turn the plane after touchdown (up to 80° of the landing strip). I'd never seen it with airliners.

It's images like these, that makes you realize how small and fragile planes really are, and how the pilots need big cajones to land under these conditions!

I was actually in the second flight!! (TAP go around) I remember they made that go around when they tried to land and we ended up landing in a nearby airport (Porto Santo I think) to get fuel and wait a few hours for some calm weather. They finally flew us back to Lisbon for that night as they decided not to try a second landing and finally arrived at Madeira the 28th of December. I cannot belive there is actual footage of our flight hahaha, amazing find

Sin duda da algo de miedo aterrizar en el aeropuerto de Madeira pero una vez en la isla cada segundo vale oro, es un paraíso sobre el planeta digna de visitar.

I am passionate about airplanes, especially the A380 type giants. Although it seems dangerous, for me it is exciting and thrilling these attacks, especially in times of rain and winds! It is fantastic that these pilots know the exact moment to abort a landing, thinking about safety !! Each of them deserves a hug at each landing! It's just wonderful. Beautiful and exciting images !! Nothing can be more beautiful than seeing these air giants taking off or landing !!

I fly the smaller Cessnas and those crosswinds are way over the Cessna's crosswind capabilities, a pilot would have to be a fool or suicidal to try and land a Cessna in those winds. I can't imagine the stress on the pilots in this video NOR the stress on the passengers because that had to be a terrifying last couple minutes.
