This is no joke, I was on that EasyJet Plane and I was scared to death. There were several passengers feeling sick due to stress. More, those passengers were supposed to arrive on sunday but the flight turned back to Lisbon due to the fog. So all the passengers were already very tired and scared from the day before. But I want to thank the EasyJet Crew and the pilot itself they did a wonderful job they gave all the informations and each time we had a missed approach the pilot explained everything, and what would be the next step. When our plane touched the ground they had a huge applause from the passengers. Thank you EASYJET for the wonderful JOB.
@Caine002710 жыл бұрын
That pilot has some serious balls... The passengers by the window near the wings must have crapped themselves when the wings started to flap like they did at 3:54... Massive respect, and the biggest applause to the pilot.

As always, beautiful work! If St. Maarten is "the greatest plane watching spot in the world" (as many people claim), Funchal has to be a close 2nd place. Plus, St. Maarten has neither the weather, the danger, nor the spectacular surroundings of Funchal. Keep up the great work---Madeira is the best watch on the net!

Wow, excellent video. I can't see how these airlines are making a profit here with so many go around and divertions. Diverting to Tenerife is quite a divertion. I remember on the 737 classics that Boeing had training recommendations to use flaps 25 with GPWS overriden and VREF+15 when trying to land on winds like these. Not sure on the NG models with different wing design. Obviously seems to handle better. I mean, some of these guys pushed the nose over right at the flare to reduce the float. Great job, though. Thanks for posting.
@pedrolopes354210 жыл бұрын
the air companies and VINCI/ANAM are being stupid, they do not need to divert all the planes to the Canary islands in order to land, 50 km to the north of Funchal airport exist the Porto Santo airport where all of those planes could have landed. of course the passangers would have to take the ship to Madeira island, but they will rater sent the tourist and the Madeirans to the Canary islands.
@ROBERTONOBREGA7910 жыл бұрын
***** The problem with porto santo is that altough they have a bigger runway, they cannot handle more than 4 planes at the same time, tarmac is not big enough. Also when there are strong winds most of the time the ferry does not operate. so and unfortunatelly in cases like this it is better to divert to a place where airlines will have better option to accomodate guests in case if they have to overnight. Porto Santo, in winter only has 2 ou 3 small hotels operatiing.
@pedrolopes354210 жыл бұрын
@ROBERTONOBREGA7910 жыл бұрын

For those of you that don't know, the airport used to be only 1/2 to 2/3 of what it is today. It was a while before they extended it. From the point of you of this video, the extended part is on the left (the direction the planes are coming from). I can only imagine the margin for error before that.

I'm not a pilot, but i live in a similar environment to this with cliffs and sea bluffs interacting with strong onshore winds. The strong updrafts and turbulence in these locations sometimes have to be experienced to be believed. you notice that the final approach is just at the spot where these conditions are the strongest. Right over the edge of the bluff. Only experience and anticipation would make for a safe landing under these conditions. All others, WAVE OFF!
