I wanted to touch up with you on the crisp of the textures, IM NOT TRYING TO DEGRADE OR DISAGREE OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT ABOUT YOUR OPINION because I agree with your opinions in comparison to prepar3d. However I don’t know if you know about this but, orbx global base pack is aimed to be released for x-plane 11 this year! So maybe that fixes and gives the sim a lot more of the crispy textures that we all know and love and find in Prepar3d. Thank you for your time. I am a real pilot just general avation but I agree too many developers seem to think harder is always more realistic. I find X-planes taildraggers to have a vicious ground handling problem that is so overly unrealisticly modeled that they are too difficult to practicaly handle. Even the Tri-gear models are a bit too touchy. Once in the air X-plane handles rather nice. I don't like pre3d default selection of aircraft but there is so much more add on material but for the price it should have at least the 6 to 10 most common general avation aircraft on the real world market so us real pilots can use it to train. I did call the developers at X-plane 11 with these concerns and they said they are working on their ground handling of all their moduals especially the taildraggers . they also disclosed X-plane 12 WILL HAVE VOICE ACTIVEATED AND INTERACTIVE ATC. You speak it speaks back. This is something real work pilots struggle with and need( an ATC trainer)

@@isaacmcpeek9636 You know I like x-plane 11 a lot and I also like P3Dv4 a lot too ( I have both). Its funny you talk about how these developers think harder is more realistic. I happen to be a pilot in training as well, although I am quite new in the real-world aviation level. I do have a question that either aviation pro, or you can help me with, or anybody, but, how realistic in terms of the physics are the 3rd party payware aircraft i.e. carenado, PMDG, etc. in Prepar3D v4? Which one is truly closer to the real thing. I know what a Cessna 172 and Bonanza would feel like because those are the only 2 airplanes I flew in the real world for now. But yeah, I just wanna here from other pilots' perspective on which sim is truly closer to reality, XP11 or P3D. Thanks, see you in the skies! :)

So lack of seasons in XP upsets you but flying with a 14 year old navigation database does not??? P3D bases all their flight dynamics with a text file...nothing dynamic about it, this is why it is not “exaggerated”....flying P3D to XP visuals is like comparing War Thunder to DCS....looks crisper and nicer, with nothing to compare for flight dynamics. This is why more pilots use XP than P3D...
@Pbt315 жыл бұрын
Nomad I agree with you. A flight sim as it says, tries to simulate flight experience first. For me XPlane does this job. I have a private pilot license and I can find the same feeling on XPlane, not in my previous FSX experience because of his outdated flight model. For example crosswind approaches are hundred times better in XPlane when you have practiced in real Life. But everyone is looking for something different... (sorry for my approximate « french » english :-)
@AviationPro5 жыл бұрын
The navigation database is updatable, and using AIRAC data for FMCs this is not a problem. Watch the video carefully, I already explained that flight dynamics are not even that important to me.

@fingerhorn45 жыл бұрын
@Nomad It is a complete myth that P3d/FSX flight model is based on a "text file". The quality or accuracy of FDEs in both sims is largely reliant on the individual programming of the flight model for individual aircraft, which in both sims is very flexible regarding variations in lift, inertia. drag, thrust and other parameters. I've flown good to terrible flight models in both sims. Both have major flaws in ground handling and turbulence but once in the air both can provide decent flight modelling. The vast majority of sim pilots, at least from youtube evidence, seem to fly largely without any particular challenge to a sophisticated flight model (they usual take off, cruise and land after a pretty boring flight with almost zero demands made on any advanced aerodynamics) and that's because most sim pilots are emulating very bland passenger airline flights which require FMCs, autopilot and procedures rather than pushing flight envelopes. Both sims can do this very well with decent programming.

The lack of seasons can be solved with xAmbiance for 35$. The best feature in xAmbiance is, the season landscape is not only depent on chossed month or season. If you will fly in December and you set -10° outside temeratur, than you will snow fall and snowy landscape. If you choose December with +10°, you won´t see snow fall you will see rain and you don´t see snowy landscape, because is to warm outside.

I went from FS 2004 to X-Plane 11. The biggest thing I miss is lack of VFR ATC. If you fly in class G or E airspace you do not have to contact ATC but you do tune in to local traffic and call out your positions for other traffic in the area.

After long years flying in FS9 I was wondering what sim would be better for up-to-date simming. I really loved MSFS and knew all the keyboard commands etc - it was my home. I gave a try to demo of X-Plane 11, few flights - I wasn't convinced about this, weird key-commands, different menu, dull and different graphics, but what catched my eye was physics. Physics in this sim is far more convincing for me than products of MS. You can feel the wind, can soar like in old good Condor Glider sim using thermals. And after years of MSFS on my PC, the new came - XP11, after few upgrades its really good (not perfect still) sim. So turning to (let's say) different team sometimes can give a new and fresh look of what we know. Happy flying!

I still fly FSX a bit because I have some Addons I really love, but I decided it was time to give X-Plane another try. I tried it many years ago and just did not care for it, but I now see it rapidly moving in to replace FSX/P3D. The thing that really moved me to get X-Plane was the FlyJ sim 727v3 plug-in. I flew the 727 for 7 years and she remains my favorite to this day. The FlyJ sim 727 is really well done, and I prefer it over the Captainsim version for FSX. Also, the Toliss A-319 and FlightFactor A-320 plug-ins are great in X-plane, and as a current A-320/19 pilot I find them useful for staying sharp on emergency, and rarely flown procedures. I also like to “pre-fly” arrivals into new airports just to get a feel for the area before I actually go there. The flight modeling in X-Plane does feel more authentic to me, especially in general aviation aircraft like the Piper Cherokee which I learned to fly in. I will say the runway “contouring” does feel a bit exaggerated, but I have been on some runways that were pretty “wavy”! Most just do not give the kind of ride you get in X-Plane as you roll down the runway. I swear, sometimes it feels like your catching air on the takeoff roll! :D All the best to you, and keep up the good work. I enjoy your channel.

X-plane looks far more realistic when you use VR and Ortho4XP, add in live traffic and use the Zibo 737 and the game is far better than Prepar3d for visual effects. I spent thousands on add on aircraft and scenery for FSX / Prepar3d. I have spent far less on x-plane and have been far more impressed with the look and feel, especially in VR. Both sims don't give the exact feel of flight, they both feel too stable compared to the real thing. The biggest reason not to switch would be frame rate. In x-plane VR the frame rate is pretty bad with all the add-on's. I get locked in stable at 22fps on a 5.0ghz i5 7600k with a 1080ti. In Prepar3d that is more like 70fps.

I spent about 2 years trying to decide whether to switch to P3D or XP while I was still playing FSX. I finally made the switch this las December to XP for multiple reasons but the biggest reason is the realistic flight model for GA flying as that is what I prefer to do. You are correct about the cost of add-ons. I think the reason you are not seeing the seasons change right now in XP is because they are working on switching the base code to Vulcan. Rewriting the sim from the base up will take a lot of time but I think it will be the best for them to do that right now instead of later down the road. I think once that is done then they will work on things like the ATC and seasonal changes. I have been flight simming for well over 20 years and I think they are finally getting to where it is much more “real world” than it has ever been. I also chose XP for the ease of switching in and out of VR and how well it functions in VR. Best of luck on your future flight training!!!

I’m been flight siming and real world pilot for about 30 years. Both XP-11 and P3Dv4 have their strong points. For practicing real world stick and rudder procedures, X-plane is pretty much like a real world sim. I was just in a real non-motion CRJ-200 sim a few months ago and just purchased a CRJ 200 for X-plane 11 and feel that X-plane 11 is very close to the real world sim, both are over sensitive compared to a real world aircraft. On the other hand if you want to learn procedures, P3Dv4 is a more stable flight model and not as over sensitive. In reality, a real aircraft is in the middle of the two Sim engines. P3Dv4 is my preferred sim for IFR where you are procedures heavy. For stick and rudder flying x-plane is the sim I use. P3Dv4 needs to improve their basic graphics such a airport ground lighting. Floating lights on the runways is just wrong. Xplane airport lighting is excellent. Ease of uses goes to P3Dv4. I currently uses both 80% p3dv4 and 20% xplane. The biggest improvement that xplane could make is not having to use two computer and two copies of the software to put the instrument panels on a second monitor that is 100% independent of the main monitor.

I don't know you and this is the very first video I've watched of yours. I'm excited for you and hope you get selected for flight training! Good luck!!! I'm VERY curious to see what your opinion on the sim flight dynamics are once you've come back from flight training (I have no doubt your enthusiasm and drive will help you prevail in your endevours!). As a real world pilot who also grew up on MFS prior to any flight experience, I found myself leaning away from MFS once I understood how it FELT to fly an aircraft. I miss MFS for it's beauty and fidelity, and the wonderful community all of which are undeniable... But from a pilots standpoint, especially in the realm of general aviation I just can't get past the MFS flight model. I challenge you to come back and give us your second take down the line once you've got real world experience to compare too. In your position you have the unique opportunity to explain to your following, whom many of which will not ever have the experience, what real vs. simulation is like. In my opinion, my sim experience made my flight training easier; in both fixed and rotary wing flight training. It gave me a strong foundation. I have found that in turn my real world experience has made my simulation experience more realistic and in some ways, more challenging. For any other simmers out there reading this, the single most recommended piece of hardware I could suggest is TrackIR for head tracking. The use of head tracking dramatically increased the immersion, realism and fun of my simming, and brought it MUCH CLOSER to my real world experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND as a priority, even over a dual or triple screen set up. It may entirely negate the need for that. Again, good luck in your selection process!

Thank you, welcome in! :) That's indeed something I'm planning on doing. Although I can already say from a few minutes of real world Cessna 172 experience that X-Plane is indeed more realistic, no denying that, yet it's not my main point of simulation. I learned a lot using FS2004 and Prepar3D, especially in terms of system knowledge, procedures, phraseology and the general operation of an airliner. I'd love to give a full and honest opinion when I get some real world flying time! :)

If you are new in Fsims you should start with XP11 if you fly for few years it is hard choice and the best choice is to have both sims (unfortunately). You dont have to invest that much money into XP11 than you have to invest in P3D (scenery and visual mods, camera mod). You can get very complex 737 for free you dont have to pay some 80 USD for PMDG 737. Problem is that P3D cant offer anything new in the future but XP11 can but it is very slow progress. Setting up hardware in XP11 takes about 10% of time than it is needed in P3D (all the calibrations, hotkeys etc.) New custom joystick setups in XP11 also help bring something new. But yes in general XP11 effects overexaggerated, xp11 cant create fog/mist at night and it does not have seasons. If you really want to have the best exprience you need both sims (unfortunately).

So I've been "away" from aviation simulation for quite some time.... 8 years maybe? I flew less after the release of FSX and stuck with FS9 for a while longer. I dabbled in x-plane a bit, but always preferred the AI ATC in FS products. I flew military (DCS) for a while, primarily cause i like the helicopters. I'm kind of getting "the bug" again. Any recommendations what to try? Old FSX? Or should I buy XP11 or P3D? I got quite a few FS-addons, namely a very extensively modified A320 (PSS) that i love to bits, a PC12 I really love and my ATR72 that somehow is the plane i want to fly right now.
@AviationPro5 жыл бұрын
I'd say try X-Plane 11 first. Perhaps try the demo and see what it feels and looks like. Then if you decide to buy it expand it with free stuff and see if you like it. Take a good look at the addon market. Make sure you determine which addons you definitely want, so you don't miss out when picking the wrong sim. In that sense the Prepar3D market is still bigger, but it looks like things are changing. Nevertheless, it takes a long time to develop something like a PMDG aircraft, so best advise I would give is do not buy a sim just because you expect a particular aircraft addon to appear sometime. That can really take quite a few years.

I've been wondering how to describe that. "Washed Out" thats perfect. I am XP11 but I still agree it looks like that. P3D does look better in my opinion.

My Reasoning on Both Simulators I currently fly in both simulators. I just recently got X-Plane 11 and I can't say the difference is ginormous. The big factor for me was ORTHO! I live in the United States and that is where I do most of my flying. I think P3D is a great sim but I do fly in X-Plane more. The autogen is 10 times better if you have Ortho installed. Any Orbx product besides True Earth can't compare. Plus Ortho is free, the downside is it takes up so much room on the Harddrive. X-plane lacks in Weather, Vatsim Model matching, long haul aircraft, and some flight dynamics, in my opinion, are a bit over the top. I think if you want to do short flights with ortho scenery X-plane is the sim but if you want to do Long hauls or Vatsim flights I would still pick P3D. The reason I tend to fly X-Plane more is the better-looking autogen, great night lighting, and the better frame rate.

With Laminar Research's latest X-Plane 11 update (11.53) I noticed a frames per second loss and more stutters, keep in mind that the sim is running on a custom built i9 9900K overclocked to 4.9 GHZ, 64 GB of DDR4 RAM, GTX 1080 ti GPU, on a NVME 2.0 SSD. I've also seen problems with aircraft that I have not seen before, unpredictable behavior is the best way to describe it, one example is I lost the ability to control the Beechcraft C90 on final approach and I crashed, and it wasn't a failure that I programmed. So I'm not impressed with the latest Laminar release of XP-11. I might be looking at switching to P3D V5 or MSFS 2020.

You need to fly REAL PLANES!!! first before you decide which simulator is the best. X-Plane 11 is what the vast majority of pilots use nowadays. There is no exaggeration when we talk about X-Plane, there is simple a lack of realism when we talk about PREPAR3D. It's that simple. You will realise that yourself when you start piloting a real plane. Just remember my words.

I use X-Plane 11 and still think P3D is just a better "overall rounded" simulator. My reason to switch to X-Plane was purely based on cost. The out of the box X-Plane looks great on its own as opposed to P3D..you spend $100+ to get the same result. I admit the X-Plane flight model is definitely better but can be really wacky at times. Also, the lack of seasons is a bit of a drawback but there is an add-on for this. Basically this just comes down to cost and user preference. We should really all be happy we have these wonderful sims to use.

P3D vs X-Plane is a topic that pops ups almost daily on forums (especially in reddit). I am totally with X-Plane and I love it as sim. But currently I still do believe that both sims have major pros and cons. It's more about personal preference what you are ready to give up to get something more. Do you want free amazing photoscenery or seasons? Outstanding GA flying or perfect long haulers? Do you prefer rails or aircraft made out of paper? These are questions person have to ask when choosing what sim to use. It's impossible to say which sim is better. With correct arguments we can make other sim look like garbage and it works both ways. In the end it will be just personal preference because both sims are really good! Important thing is that we are still one big family who just loves aviation and I am happy everyone can do it in the way they like it!

Issue for me is I went from fs98 - fs2004 - fsx - P3D V4 - so I'm familiar with the system, xplane still feels a bit alien, and I've yet to learn the key controls etc. But the biggest issue is the flight model, using a saitek yoke, most aircraft are practically unflyable, especially on takeoff / landing when the aircraft always seems to jump forward when I ease back pressure (even when trimmed correctly..) but both sims have their pluses, P3D is just my personal preference

To each their own. I used FSX for a long time then was between XP10 and FSX for a while. I eventually made the complete switch to XP11 and invested my money there and I am not disappointed. People spend lots of money to make P3D look “realistic” but I always preferred the kind of light-washed textures in XP over the over-shaded and over-contrast textures in P3D. As a student pilot, I also find airports, especially smaller airport layouts, to be substantially more accurate in XP over P3D, which is important to me. Then again, it just matters what’s important to you.
@robertoates74525 жыл бұрын
I think your last few points are probably the most valid -- I used to own both sims but found myself using X-Plane more, eventually I stopped using P3D mainly because I wasn't willing to invest a lot of time and money to bring it up to par with what X-Plane was basically giving me for free. Likewise, if a person who has already invested a lot in P3D will probably be less inclined to go with X-Plane as their main sim since X-Plane not quite as well rounded in terms of overall features -- even after you take addon's into account ... but as you said this is changing too.
@AviationPro5 жыл бұрын
Yep, those are the ones that are most important to me as well. For me it's especially the time thing, with real life commitments now really making the 'switch' difficult :)

Nice comparison , I like it. really in prepard3 much better model aircraft . But as a pilot, I’ll say that the flight in xplane11 is more real examples: TAC etc. in real life, there are many flight factors, and in the x plane they are more approximate, although the obs are going to the SOP...

Greazer Zibo is nowhere close to Pmdg 737 lol. You can't simulate failures with proper QRH and stuff. FMC is very basic like not being able to enter RNP or No wind data calculations for descent planning etc. It's only good for what it cost which is free. I am fixing my Zibo most of time than flying it lol. Sure, FF757 is better than P3D's shitty Captain Sim 757. Same goes with FF767 since P3D doesn't have one. About FF320 it's really good but not as detailed as FsLabs A320/A319 which allows to simulate failures with Ecam actions, icing and way more advanced FMC. The only plus side of X plane what I have found is good default airports, many freeware add-ons and flight dynamics until it's in bad weather.
@andreyaviator7375 жыл бұрын
Greazer any plane in the simulator does not perform 90% of the simulation neither prepar3d nor x plane 11. it's me as a civil aviation pilot talking. it's about flight quality ; such examples as wind, icing, all five types of turbulence, taxiing with a tiller . I tried to land the plane in prepar3d model according to pmdg in icing conditions, wind more than 60 knots and to my surprise I land, how it can be the right physics? if you want real physics so let's fly with me)))

I can only talk about a 172 but my experience is that, out of the box, XP is very very stable compared with the real plane and P3D is so far away from reality it's insane. Adding REP to the 172 and having Active Sky running in XP brings thing up to quite close to the real thing. When flying a 172 on a hot day you are constantly being shoved around in the sky - the difference is that it's much easier to correct things in the real plane as you can feel every movement, which makes the case for having them toned down in a sim. Also, as someone else mentioned, XP looks real from the cockpit, down to how close you need to be to see the airfield - perhaps a review of your graphics settings is in order?

Can anyone tell me why X-plane aircrafts are sooo easy to control? I mean, they fly exactly where I point them to fly, I can easily make a 180 degree turn at much sharper angle than in P3D, I can with no effort do a barrel roll and loops on heavy planes like 737 for example, which I cannot do in P3D. Although all my sensitivity settings are on "maximum realism". I do enjoy graphics X-plane provides but is it really how planes should act in real life? I ve never piloted one so just guessing. Is there anything I can do to that issue?
