I work in video editing industry for 8 years and now I relive the feeling of begining in a new software. I really try to convince me this feeling of the illogical software work is because is something new for me, new command buttons, new workflow... But. BUT. Premiere have so logical and airy workspace, really easy to sellect the layers, to change the sequence settings, the frame rate, to cut something, to apply an effect, to move the clips, to make anything. :)))

My god, Avid is insanely complicated. You need 5 steps to do what other softwares can do just as well if not even better in a single click. I get that being able to have multiple editors on a single project is a dealbreaker for every major production, but my god is it frustrating.

A lot of companies have been using and paying for Avid since the 90s when it was first invented. It's very finicky because it was designed by the people who use to edit on film originally, so it works more with them in mind. It's also an infrastructure issue because there is so much Avid Hardware is so deeply integrated with a lot of studios and companies, so switching to let's say premiere becomes an issue. Everything in Avid works the way it is supposed to (for the most part) and was put in there for a reason. It's not my preference personally but it's an industry standard that I don't expect to go away any time soon.
@CVerse2 жыл бұрын
@@faisalsalam4161 It's the same exact thing for the CGI Industry. Autodesk Maya is industry standard for the majority of the pipeline, and it's a hunk of a software that takes a motherload of a PC to run even though it crashes a lot. Meanwhile there's Blender, which is open source and free and is starting to become a really big competitor in the field. I've got a buddy from college that is crazy with Blender. What would take you so many steps in Maya to complete a task, he can do it in Blender in half the time and with less resources. (I mean imagine poly modeling with a ton of assets in your scene while having an HDRI on, and while running it all on a laptop.) Maya for sure is here to stay, but it's good to see at least a relatively new 3D program making a name for itself in the industry

Thank you so much for your tutorial. I really appreciate all the details. It's a finicky software to pick up as a newcomer. I don't like it very much because it is so foreign to me but I know it is such an industry standard. It is essentially the first successor to linear editing which is why it feels so stubborn to work with. Everything in Avid is there for a reason and works exactly how it is supposed to.

It won't be for long if they don't change. It is a very archaic software. 5 clicks instead of 1 to make changes. I see Avid hasn't changed a bit. I loved it back than in school because it was the only professional editing software back then. But now with Davinci you can do the exact same things as with Avid, plus you have an AE similiar software (fusion) built in. I will try to learn Avid again, so I can work on some projects, but to be honest I actually hate TV. And nowadays most editors are allowed to use their software of choice.

I initially learned on Avid then moved to Final Cut Pro and now trying Resolve. Avid does have a learning curve but it is not that difficult to learn. Editing a feature will require Avid because of the collaborative features but Resolve is better suited for other videos.
@filip6994 Жыл бұрын
Not the same for me. I started learning Premiere Pro, then Resolve and Sony Vegas and now i'm trying Avid.
@Leprutz Жыл бұрын
Resolve has the same collaborative feature as Avid. Resolve is more complete than media composer itself. I hate it when people talk without knowing their stuff. There have been quite a few big Hollywood features that were edited entirely with Resolve. It is not for other kinds of videos. It always depends on what you are doing. If you wanted you can also edit a full feature film with sony vegas. It is not the software but the result that counts. But with resolve you have more possibilities also with a high learning curve. But it works faster and better than Avid if you have the necessary infrastructure.

@faisalsalam41613 жыл бұрын
I think being the first is one of the big reasons it has such a big influence even today. It was designed by the people who were originally editing film and linear editing systems, which is why it is so finicky. You have a lot of people who have been editing on it for 30+ years now. It's also an infrastructure issue since Avid also sells hardware that many companies buy that is heavily integrated into their systems at this point. It would cost a lot of money for most places to completely switch over. I've been told by my superiors that it is generally more stable compared to let's say adobe premiere. I've also been told that companies like the could sharing capabilities it has. It is supposed to make it easier for multiple to work on a project simultaneously. It makes it easier for someone else on your team to hop on and start working. Many major companies are slowly trying to transition away as well. A lot of them are using the different softwares that the Adobe Suite offers in addition to Avid.

Hi Keith, thanks, glad to hear the videos are helpful! So the sync locks in Avid are basically the same as in Premiere. I'd personally always turn them on and keep them on. Most professional editors I know prefer Avid. There are pros and cons to different NLE’s. Choose the one that fits your needs. @@HansTheEditor Hi Hans. Thank you for your excellent video. I have used Premiere Pro, Resolve and Avid. While I believe Avid is the best in terms of the timeline features, unfortunately what I found from using it is that it really slowed down my productivity. It doesn’t have any GPU acceleration of H.264 files, which requires me to transcode everything. That in itself takes hours. Then, exporting files in MP4 for KZbin is very slow. I’ve been using Resolve now and while it has its own issues, it’s extremely fast and I feel I get my projects done much more quickly. But Avid definitely has the best timeline no question.
