I loved the clips showing the vocals with no editing 😭 Cynthia and Ari deserve all the awards!!

Superb breakdown! I love that he keeps bringing up that it is indeed live singing. 13:00 It's incredible to see how a simple scene shot in a blue screen can be transformed to something so fantastical and iconic. Kudos to all people involved 💚

The fact that the falling scene was actually practical is insane.

What a dream would be to open source the source material and get access to everything and make my own edits of this absolute soberane wondrous masterpiece...

As an AE and lifelong Wicked fan, I'm so glad this video exists and it's so strange seeing a film so iconic in the familiar Avid interface. You can infer so much about how it's put together by seeing the track layout. They cut first using raw camera footage, then fully composited shots are laid in over the top when they come back from the GFX crew. Also I noticed the whooshing sound effect when Elphaba is falling appears to be from Fortnite which is hilarious.

Awesome. This gives a glimpse in how incredible Cynthia's performance was during this scene. Also, it shows me how much natural intuition is needed for an editor aside from manipulating the hardware and software. Wow.

Fantastic! Loved the breakdown of the editing - I had goosebumps the entire scene of Defying Gravity, but especially once it paid off at the end! Bravo.

I wish we got more of a look into the technical editing elements used, especially the process of going from the blue screen to the sfx we see in the final product. Even though I love the breakdown here, it’s very focused on the buildup of the plot rather than the techniques used in the timeline

Yeah... Well... You did a transcendent job. The love and respect everyone had for the project and source materials show in every aspect. This is an instant all time classic that will people will still be watching in 90 years just as they do The Wizard of Oz.

During the filming , When they sang live, they did not have any track? They sang acapella?
@maicon.9318 сағат бұрын
they had an in-ear monitor with a pianist accompanying them on the set, so this way they could sing live, and be free with the tempo and interpretation of the songs

The scores of people online who work in film or music who keep insisting it isn't live because it's too perfect just don't realize it's a skill issue.

So I see a Mac Studio (M2 Ultra?) running Avid Media Composer? Is that still the dominant editing software used in Hollywood? What about BlackMagic’s DaVinci Resolve/Apple’s Final Cut Pro/Adobe Premiere? Are the source files in ProRes codec? Is it edited in 8K? 3D? So many questions 😄

It would have been nice if this video was more about the editing (with original tracks enabled and without final mix and VFX) and to hear from the editor more about his approach of editing the scene from the ground up. As it stands now, it's just a scene description and a promotional material for the movie, there is no education value I can get from it.
