Hi there not sure if you still get comment notifications for this video but I just bought a 03 X5 4.6is and I have DSP and I was looking to buy the Avant 4 but there’s so many add on options underneath when purchasing what do I actually need ?

Sure do! So really its the options you want.. if you dont want carplay or similar, skip the dongle. Some of the options like DAB aren't for the US or is euro only.. really select what you think you want or need.

Where I’m confused is on these options : Quadlock 6M Navigation Extension Cable or Optional GPS Antenna Extension Cable I have navigation from factory on mine so is one of these options a must ? Also on this option : Add optional IBUS USB adapter (includes paid DSP license)? I’m confused because it says it’s optional but then says required if I have DSP, but I thought the Avant 4 already comes with IBUS ? Thanks again for your help and clarification

​@@michaeldeniz6073 If you have the factory navigation you need the Quadlock Extension, the harness that the connection will connect to is in the back because the stereo is in the trunk on the left side and the harness is connected to that radio , you need to disconnect it from the stereo and connect the other harness to the cars harness

Did you hook the rear camera’s power to the reverse light?

I tapped power from the license plate light, and the trigger to the backup light.

@@PIERN96 There is a 12v power wire (tapped to the license plate light) and a trigger wire (which tells the camera when to turn on, and the head unit to flip to video feed) that is tapped to the backup light.

@@BMWDIYGuy Sweet thanks! I'm going to order the backup camera you linked to. It doesn't say e53 on it, but if you used it I think it should be fine. Does the dash show any alerts about the license plate lights? Thanks.

@@PIERN96 So the camera replaces one of the license plate lights itself. It can then throw an error.. oddly my E46 didn't, but my E53 did. You can get resisters to put inline as the LED of the new light doesnt draw as much power as the original, hence the error.

Its really not THAT bad but yes, it is a hassle. Sadly I don't have the video for it because of an accident. I filmed the rear camera as a different video segment. Right after I finished I knocked over my camera and it just smashed. It was so ruined I couldnt even recover the files off of it.

What is the Dev. Is it Dev.com site. What I am not seeing on these DIYS . No one is showing exactly where the 6M cable is connected.On my E38, in the trunk,there is a module box that as the OEM 17 pin harness, should I disconnect that OEM and connect my 6M cable to it or should I disconnect the OEM from the module and connect the 6m harness to the module box that also has the antenna cable. Did you needed the 6M cable and antenna cable when you did yours?

I installed the Avant-4 in my E53 a few weeks ago and I like it very much. I installed a mic and use the handsfree bluetooth for my phone. The one thing that really bugs me (more my wife) is the high volume of the ring tone that comes from the speakers (ring ring) on incoming calls. I can't find a way to adjust the volume or turn it off. Do you know if that's possible?

@@gr7199 I have no idea if this is the case but I'd wonder if it has to do with the volume/ringer settings on their phone overruling the volume settings on the stereo. Apple Carplay/Android Auto should both not have that issue though.

Did you have a problem with Audio delays in phone calls? Mine adds a 1-2 second delay to whoever is talking (me and also the person calling) meaning we talk over eachother a lot and I have to swith to speakerphone*

My 2001 E38 do have a DSP and I did download iBus app but the radio play for 38 Sec. then cut out and showing warm and overheating. I would love to show you a video of my problem so you may understand better how can I?

Hi I need your help 2 weeks ago I got Avin Avant 4 for my BMW e38 , I have some issue with WiFi connection , I use wi fi antenna and the plug is screwed well with the unit , but from time to time disconnecting and stay as off on the settings Can not switch it on Some friends advise me to update the android system and MCU from 8.0 to 9.0 Can give us an idea how to solve this issue due to the support from AvIN USA is very poor

There is no way that I am aware of to flash the unit up to v9. Maybe there is something on XDA Developers, but I havent looked.

this is hands down the worst head unit ive ever had in my life. i should of just got an alpine or anything but this. i am i computer/tech guy and trying to get this turd to connect to my wifi/phone took well over 2 hours. then after that it wouldnt save the settings...i had to reconnect it every time i get in the car, Not like it auto does it...i have to go into setting look for the phone and reconnect it. also, my cams dont work when i goto see them in the unit, but if i put the car in R, back-up cam works...its just all wonky.

so update, i have now reset the head unit, and nothing...i wish i could return this turd. for some reason the wifi likes to turn on and off when it wants even with FULL bars. when loading youtube or nav, it loads up then crashes back to start.

If you are missing the ibus app you can download it. It's on Avins support site but also from the Dev. Just search for the app, copy the apk to a thumb drive and install on the display.
