I’m from Russia and I must admit we are inherently bad at learning languages or assimilating in foreign countries. We often try to impose our own worldview, culture, aesthetics, ethics to places we occupy/move to. In my opinion the biggest problem with Marina that she tries to “teach” English “as”(like correct) a native speaker but in reality she is a Russian native speaker and she makes mistakes which are common for all Slavic speaking countries.

I've taught English in Russia. So many of my students (current and former) told me about this Russian girl who aced TOEFL and had perfect pronunciation in English. You see, for Russians, pronunciation is a huge deal and is given a ton of importance. One day, I decided to sit down and watch some of her videos,, and man, I tell you, I wasn't impressed at all. I remember cringing hard when she did a US vs. British English pronunciation video and mispronounced so many words that I lost count. In particular, she claimed that in North America we pronounce the letter "L" in "Salmon". She also claimed that the word "Rabbit" was pronounced like "Raw-bit" in the UK. No, no, no. The problem isn't her mispronounced words - those can be fixed with practice (and knowing how to say the word correctly to begin with!). No, the problem is that she sells herself as this perfect English teacher and she's followed by so many people who think that what she's saying is correct. Stop giving this person your money, everyone. At least until she improves her English. Good video. I wish I'd thought about doing something like this.

As a non-native English teacher, I can say that it’s okay to make mistakes and recheck some information sometimes when you feel not sure enough. But! It’s a shame she films these videos and doesn’t even double check all the info she teaches. It’s a video with a scenario, come on! Not an online/offline lesson where you can get some unexpected questions from your students…

Никогда не смотрела видео по английскому языку от неносителя, но знала, что у Могилко есть подобный канал и она позиционирует себя знатоком английского. Сказать, что я в шоке, - ничего не сказать. Есть такие базовые ошибки... So teachers work in my country ONLY for science and teaching, and you can't get money from KZbin for teaching, so all they do is working for free. You are a great teacher. Thank you for working out almost every sound in the parsed word. I've never seen anything like this before. And for repeating words at different speeds several times. Finally, I was able to repeat after the carrier so that the accent was almost inaudible. I treat Marina very well. She's a good girl who has achieved a lot and is a very nice person. But the examples show how important it is first of all to deliver a speech, to work out the sound, so that you can feel comfortable later. Thanks
