@LivingtheSprings Well I stayed in Colorado Springs for two weeks working on a project over the summer and I hated every day I was there! In spades. I went downtown to get my hair cut in a salon and in front of the building was some homeless bum laying on the pavement (called the sidewalk in the US). I found this revolting! I live in London and we do not have homeless people lying on the pavement, in fact we have no homeless people at all. The British government takes care of council housing for people who do not have homes. What's wrong with your government that it cannot do this? I couldn't wait for the day I was to leave.

@@LivingtheSprings There is nothing in Colorado Springs that is even interesting. Where I stayed that two weeks the neighborhood was unfriendly, no one "neighbored", the lady next door had stones in her front yard in place of a flower garden, I found people laying on the sidewalk. And people want to live there?

I'm 47 and a native here. I agree with this. Working for the utilities company here, I talk to residents from all over and Colorado Springs still is pretty competitive in terms of cost of living and definitely cheaper Utilities. Yes the crime rate has went up, homeless population and our weather can be unpredictable but we don't have as many disasters as other parts of the world. The most we get here is a blizzard, occasional hail storms causing damage and fire since we are dry and it can be windy at times. We don't get a lot of tornadoes that touch down or flooding that causes major damage. It's not scorching hot in the summer we will get to 100 but we don't have the humidity. The winters can seem long and exhausting but the great thing is our sun comes out and melts our snow so it doesn't hang around to become dirty snow for months upon months lennar winter days can still be warm. The last thing I will say is that our mountains are beautiful so make a list of your pros and cons. I've been other places and really enjoyed it but Colorado Springs is my home 🏠❤

Been here almost 10 years now. Looking to move though next year potentially. Lots of factors like the cost of living but especially the housing market blowing up here is insane. I'd rather go some place warmer where my money can go farther. For what I paid for my house I could get something really nice, modern, already renovated somewhere else on a shorter term loan and still have profit left over.

My thoughts about Colorado/Colorado Springs: Too much traffic here because of tourism. Lots of pot holes on the roads and lots of construction going on all of the time. It seems like a lot of people are moving here and the infrastructure is not able to support it anymore. There are also no good paying jobs for the most part since Colorado Springs did nothing to keep the high tech companies that were here when they were here and we do nothing to try and attract companies here who could bring in good paying jobs as they give all of the money to the olympic training center due to this place wanting to cater towards tourism only as a main source of income. Government jobs here that hire a lot of military people also require that you already have a high level security clearances. Lots of minimum wage jobs here that most donot want. cost of living here is very high and it keeps going up like everywhere else. rental property, property taxes, homes buying, home owners insurance, auto insurance or renting are high for what you get and apartments monthly rent is very high just like everywhere else. we have tornado's here, hail, flash flooding, cold weather and snow and the climate here is dry, not humid and we have fires here. we get a lot of wind in general since we are so close to the mountains. In 2023 The colorado Sun said that we hosted 93.3 million visitors in 2023. which explains the conditions of our roads. And guess what; since there is no tourism tax. The people that live in colorado pay for the wear and tear of the roads cause by those 93.3 million visitors in 2023 through taxes. A lot of bad drivers here since a lot of people come here from someone else and they have their own version of driving and a lot of road rage. A lot of road traffic delays during certains time of the day everyday. coloradosprings.gov/system/files/2024-10/2025pbudget-00-04-glanceprofile.pdf

Have you ever gone outside of Colorado Springs to other cities in other states? - I have lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Nebraska and Florida and believe me none of them are like Colorado. Nebraska is much colder and sadder, it's like desolate, North Carolina is too fast, you can't imagine how fast the traffic is there and the people are rude and very harsh, there is no warmth or empathy, and the weather is hot and very humid. Virginia is boring, there is nothing new, it's like a routine in circles, and Florida is so hot and humid all year round, too many people that you suffocate.

Was going to get defensive when I first saw the title(born and raised in COS) but this is actually a very constructive criticism of the city and has good points for people who may or may not want to move here. Also the violin players in parking lots was funny because I had a suspicion they weren’t actually playing the violin, seems like it started after 2020 and people were taking advantage of the situation.

Also, the city doesn't provide trash service to the residents. There are multiple trash companies in town, and if you get a house you have to hire a trash service company. This means that there are trash trucks everywhere on any given day. Random houses with trash cans on the curb waiting to be picked up is a common sight on every street. And it's normal to have only 15-20% humidity all week.

Of course you're correct needing a fairly high yearly (gross) income to be a home-owner in Colorado Springs...but also of course in a HUGE part that's because of the current mortgage interest rate. It's amazing -- almost magical (!) -- how affordable these $450K-500K homes become when the price stays the same (as now) but the interest rate drops lower. RENTING now I can do (even at the slightly more expensive "luxury" apt complexes)...life could be worse than living there. But buying? Not just yet. So for me, the only option is "renting while waiting" (and preparing). BTW, am still seeing (slowly but surely) price reductions continuing in Banning-Lewis Ranch (their new carriage-home communities way out East on Dublin). Although home prices in their 55+ community ("The Retreat") are still holding fairly high, I DO see some reductions occasionally there as well. I'm hoping that continues, but I really need to see the interest rate drop enough (to my target "trigger" rate). If nothing else, I hope this helps the Y-T algorithm... ;-) -- BR

@LivingtheSprings 4 ай бұрын
Thank you for supporting my algorithm 😄 What rate do you think is good to make a move?
@billredding2000
@billredding2000 4 ай бұрын
@@LivingtheSprings You're welcome. ;-) As for my "target interest rate," sorry, but I've learned to keep that "trigger rate" to myself because some people -- especially real estate "experts" (right) such as agent/brokers/lenders laugh, say it's never going that low again, and then throw rotten vegetables at me (as if in a Monty Python movie). Still, I've seen rates go even lower in the past. Only time will tell who gets the LAST laugh. However, I expect I will. ;-) BTW, you only gave 10 reasons why someone may not want to move to COS...if you had given 11 reasons, I would have been 100% convinced and changed my plans to The Villages in FL. So that was a close one. ;-) -- BR

@@LivingtheSprings Tell me about it: I lived in Galveston TX and it didn't get too hot temp-wise but the humidity made 85F seem to be 100F (and heat-stroke danger). Not to mention the "occasional" mosquitoes. AND the occasional hurricanes/storm-surges (was there for Hurricane Ike when most of the island was under water). But in FL I'd be in the Central/higher-elevation part of the state (near Ocala) in The Villages (largest 55+ community on the planet, or perhaps OTOW or Del Webb Stone Creek) but it'd still be hot/humid in the summers ("winters" there are nice though). At least it's safer there from hurricanes/storm-surges and flooding in general compared to living on any of the FL coastal communities (or even near them) -- I don't need to be near a beach! ;-) But that's one huge reason FL is Plan B and Colorado Springs is Plan A: I prefer 4-seasons, and the foothills/mountains of CO over flat-earth (!) FL. And my Jeep likes CO better, too. And the snow. But you know, every place has its trade-offs...you just try to get the most positives you can with the fewest negatives possible. -- BR

I get a chuckle every Autumn when people are like lets take our 45min to hour or more drive to see the trees change color. As for Hiking yeah lots of hiking, if your idea of hiking is wide open trails where the sun just cooks you. And the prettiest thing about the Springs is the mountain. But once you drive up there you realize it isnt very pretty. The best mountain area I have found here is 4 hours away in Steamboat or up in Brekenridge. Veterans are treated poorly, the dryness and winds are tough to your body, and people are rude and mean. Driving 10 miles takes a minimum of 30 minutes and the drivers do not seem to know how to drive... no blinkers, tailgating, and cutting in/out of traffic. Homeless are everywhere and are always getting in your face. You have to watch where you walk, keep your items close and secure, or they will take it. They crap in the streams, trash everywhere, including syringes, broken drug pipes, and human poop. Housing is not good, a 1 bdr 1 bath apartment starts at 1300.00 a month, and houses 2 bdr 1 bath starts at 2500.00 month. Buying a home is astronomical. The roads are awful... potholes are very deep!!!

Love your content! I’m looking to relocate from St. Louis, MO and I also used to live in Chicago from 2005-2010. Colorado Springs seems like a good fit overall, but it’s a struggle finding pet-inclusive rentals. It also doesn’t seem like I’ll be able to afford anything in Colorado Springs when I’m ready to buy a home.

We just moved to Colorado Springs from TX because we lost everything in Hurricane Beryl. Plus, our youngest Son has been living here for around 10yrs. It's definitely different, the people! Great people but they express their own way of living. Traffic is hell & many drive like NASCAR Drivers or lots of Street Racers in Cars & motorcycles. Cost of living is high dollar also. $1200 for a decent 2br

I've been living here for years. It never used to be the way it is now because of the influx of people from other states that came during the legalization of marijuana and they ended up staying. A lot of towns and cities have went to total shit the last few years. Now meth and fentanyl is rampant here, my car has been broken into 3 times this year so don't leave anything valuable in your vehicle and if you drive a Kia or Hyundai make sure you install a fuel kill switch on it.

I visited Colorado Springs once about fifty years ago. The racial/ethnic segregation in those days was obvious, but might have changed. Tornadoes hardly ever strike the areas close to the mountains, which shouldn't have changed. I heard that most people can adjust to the altitude (and consequently low oxygen levels) within several months, but I was so seriously affected that I absolutely had to leave several days ahead of schedule, and needed a week near sea level to recover. That is probably because of pulmonary scarring from pneumonia when I was a kid.

No really we need to focus on how to not only preserve the greatness of colorado but improve it but its government is completely communinist. Sheltering and taxing it to destructionn. With its expensive gas prices at Around $4.00 a gal. And price of eggs, that unless youre at wal mart our king soopers/safeway eggs cost around $7 and beef around $6.90

@LivingtheSprings I live in central west Georgia. I just got back from a week vacation to Colorado Springs and Denver. It was absolutely beautiful to see. The weather was beautiful but would change up quickly. I prefer the no humidity there than hot humidity here. We went grocery shopping at king soopers where prices were comparible if not some items cheaper than here. Also gas was around 2.80 to 3.20 a gallon same as here in south that really surprised me. Denver didn't really impress me much. I wouldn't mind going back to Colorado Springs again

Extremly gentrified over priced groceries and price of living. Democrat government has not only ruined state, but has digressed/and decreased its cost spent per mile on road infrastructure to bring it's cost spent per mile on roads to atound 43rd in the nation but with a growth rate ranked within the top ten nationally in this metric. The curbs are 90° angles qnd are 12 inches high. They dont have a organized government with high cost of living but beautiful moutains.
