Crime, traffic, rude people, bad drivers, homeless, housing crisis, fire season, allergy season, HAIL several times a year, 90mph wind for no reason. There are mountains that are overrun with tourists and legal weed shops.

I think it's awesome that you love Colorado! I'm a native of 62 years and I love it too! However, there are a few things I feel the need to gently correct you on.1) Our summers used to be comprised of mainly 80s and low 90s but not for at least the last 3 summers. We now have several high 90 days along with some 100 degree days! 2) While we don't see our temperature in winter drop into the single digits very often. It certainly does at times in January and February and sometimes it goes below zero! In the Denver area and mostly in the mountains this happens quite often! 3) While it's true we have fewer bugs then most places, we definitely do have Lady bugs and mosquitos! I think it's hard to accurately portray these things since you've only been here a year. However, I do appreciate your video!

Exactly why this is a one year recap video. Obviously the longer you live somewhere the more you learn and feel. BUT this was my review after ONE year. I haven't lived here 62 years. 😉

Hopefully I didn't offend you Jeannie. I apologize if I did! I just noticed for example you said "It never gets down to single digits ". So it sounded to me that you were encompassing more than a year.

I've lived all over the country but Colorado is by far my favorite. The weather suits me...mild Winters and Summers but differentiation between seasons. I love the feel and look of the high plains to the alpine desert Southwest and Colorado has both. Color doesn't always come from green grass and lush lawns but for me is replaced by red rock, crystal blue skies and green ponderosa pines against mountain landscapes. Denver suffers from what a lot of big cities suffer from and our food scene is just okay but I'm not really a city person anyway. The abundance of free open space land for me to explore (23 million acres and that's just in Colorado...quadruple that when you count the 4 corners region) and Colorado is an outdoor playground of wanderlust and adventure. I love it. Been here 28 years.

We moved to FoCo back in 2020 from Chocagoland. Also could not more happy. This is pretty spot on. One thing to add, politically (at least here in Northern Colorado, it is totally purple) you have rural/and small town cities that hold all views and spectrums. Coming from mid-west suburbia, though it may look like it; with all the same chains and poop houses, it is different not being connected to a major metropolitan city. Denver area may be different and more similar to suburbs though. And to reiterate a point that was kinda glossed over, again up in northern Colorado, it is not very ethnically diverse. So if you’re looking for that, it ain’t here. Lastly, crime seems to be way lower too.

I grew up in Greeley just east of you, My father was the Navy recruiter there back in the mid-50s to early 60s, my parents purchased their home (3br, 1 1/2 bath, attached garage, full basement, brick home on 1/4 acre lot) for $17,500 in 1961 in a new subdivision just off campus. It was 23 miles of fields between our house and Loveland and it hurts to know that that is all now built up just one big city Greeley, Loveland, Fort Collins, and Windsor.

I grew up in Houston, and it’s so hot and sticky there for half the year. Lots of mosquitos, last year it was over 100 degrees for I think 60 days straight, hottest summer I remember. I’ve always been drawn to colder temperatures and mountains (kind of the opposite of where I grew up), and since I got a remote tech job after graduating, I’m looking to move, and castle rock is the target, since I have no need to live close to downtown Denver. I do have family in Denver though. Super excited to move, can’t wait to see how my life changes (or doesn’t). My first job offer, I would’ve had to live in Dallas, and I feel super lucky that I have the opportunity to live where I want to

I lived in Crested Butte in late 90’s/early 2000’s. I visited CB during the pandemic in 2020. The landscape is just how I remembered, but it’s getting too populated. If you’re lucky enough to have or find housing in Colorado nowadays, do what you can to keep it. If you’re looking for less people from California and Texas, I suggest Wyoming, Montana or Idaho. I feel blessed to have experienced old school mountain town life. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll happily visit CO for extended periods, but live there now, it’s not for me.

We live in Loveland and avoid Denver like the plague. Boulder and Aurora can be dicey so be careful. As for winter temps, we experienced -31 wind chill this winter so negative temps aren’t unusual. You’re right about the wind but haven’t seen many tumbleweeds. We’re from the Central Valley of California and tumbleweeds there are ridiculous. The new construction and economy are out of control here on the Front Range.

I was very perplexed after moving here from Dallas, because I used to go on long runs in the middle of the afternoon in summer, and the humid, 100° heat never bothered me. But my first few 80° days in Longmont felt uncomfortably HOT. I think it just has to do with the altitude. Thinner atmosphere means less protection from UV radiation, which is also why your skin burns so much faster here. That’s the only thing I can think of. By the way, I moved here on March 1 and did my first hike (as a resident) on March 8, the day you celebrated your first full year. Pretty cool 🙌🏼

Nice job. I lived in the Longmont area for 20 years. Moved away, thinking of moving back. Anyway, gas prices are a little skewed because "regular" gas is the crappy 85 octane that many will say is okay to use because it's equivalent to 87 because of the high altitude. That's leftover from the carburator days of yore.

Way more expensive but jobs pay way more. It's really not much different than the Midwest besides rent, and even then the quality of houses and apartments compared to the ancient Midwest is mind blowing 2k rent in rado may only get you a 2 bed 2 bath but it's 100% remodeled with all high end components top to bottom vs 2k in Wisconsin gets you a 4 bedroom townhouse with slumlords remodeling with recycled stuff , lead paint, and boarder line cardboard counters. Guess it really just depends on the quality of life ya want.

Lived on CO western slope 2 years early 00s loved it my wife not so much. Did 44 of the 14ers in 2 summers… Denver and close suburbs have descended into cesspools IMO with angry “peace preaching” burnouts. I crisscross this nation 100s of times a year as a corporate pilot and still get a couple nights a year in Aspen, Telluride and Rifle so I get my CO fix while being paid. I will say there is a 40 mile long area on one of the Great Lakes that is IMO and others I work with the most incredible for scenery, outdoor activities and affordability in the nation. I’m sworn to secrecy!

People are a bit more polite there. Problem is boulder county is crazy expensive. Towns east of boulder are very family oriented with great schools and infrastructure. The more conservative areas of colorado tend to be more grungy and drivers are much more aggressive

A word of advice: don’t’ live in the valley! Summers there can be well over 100 F during a heat wave. The mountain towns have summers that rarely exceed the mid 80s to low 90s. I live in a small mountain town and the best thing about them is definitely the view of the range! You won’t find a sight like that outside the Canadian Rockies and Switzerland. If you’re seeking to escape extreme heat and extreme cold, Colorado is definitely the place to be!

couple of years ago we had an early "winter day" before the first snowfall that was I think -13? or so overnight? which is intense when you are just coming off of that summer heat... DIA is nowhere NEAR the largest airport by any means, except landmass, it has the largest plot of land which it sits on. (lots of conspiracy thoeries to go along with it). what else did I want to say? OH, yes. when I moved here from Las Vegas, NV 12 years ago, I moved straight into Boulder, and I gotta tell ya....Boulder is an amazing place....but as they say, its "18 square miles, surrounded by reality" you have to imagine a town fuill of mostly college professors and hippies, but lots of stuck up "entitled" types......still very beautiful and neat place for sure. awesome vid! have a good one.

Yes, almost been here 2 years now! We've officially saw single digit temps just a week ago...but the next day it was 50 degrees. Correct about DIA its the largest in land mass. We love Boulder! Been there many times since! Thanks for watching!

Just found your channel and it was exactly what i was looking for. My husband and I are wanting to relocate, we've looked into many states but Colorado just keeps coming to the top of the list. He grew up in St. Paul MN then moved to Southern Oregon about 10 year ago, which is where i'm from. The area is beautiful but the summers are getting hotter and hotter (100's from june-Sept) and the wildfires last all summer so it's hard to enjoy the outdoors. My husband had a lot of allergy issues in MN, do you have any experience with that in colorado? Also did you explore other areas of the state before landing where you did? What made that area your choice? Thanks for the great content!
@JeanieMarie
@JeanieMarie 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, summer on the front range (Fort Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs) will be in the 90s almost 100s. If you live in the mountains it will be cooler. My husband had allergies in MN in the spring - he still gets it's them here too. We thought he wouldn't, but he still does. I just did a lot of research on locations in CO and after coming out here to see it for ourselves, it just felt right to us.

I have so many! • Glenwood Springs is amazing as they have some amazing hot springs and adventure park: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKfHgp6qibVmq5I • Indian Peaks Wilderness is close to Boulder and so beautiful! However, you have to park in the winter parking lot right now, which is about a 2-mile hike into that area: kzbin.info/www/bejne/noGmdKSpq7yXeZo / kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHm0k5WchNlrnsU • If you are a skier-Breckenridge, Vail, Winter Park have lots of skiing options. • Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is worth a visit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/in7SpqlqjK-Ae7M • Colorado Springs has Garden of the Gods Park. • Grand Junction has the beautiful Colorado National Monument Park - great hiking and sightseeing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnKbfXp7j7h6aJY I have so many other recommendations-however, some would be better for summertime and/or they are closed right now because of winter. Hope this helps give you some ideas! Have so much fun!

Keep your pets and children inside. The Great Horned owls, hawks, eagles, foxes, bobcats, coyotes and occasional mountain lions will eat them. Single coyotes “play” with your dog until it’s lured from your yard, then the pack will tear it apart. We also have bears in Boulder, but they don’t seem to bother the pets. Also, everyone knows that you can’t outrun a mountain lion, but some guys thought they could jump on their bikes and get away. That didn’t end well, although they did survive. You just have to be aware of the dangers.

Great video - many thanks for the info. Colorado is on my short-list for relo from the Northeast. I've contacted an agent south of Denver and have been looking at the Parker, Monument, Larkspur areas - can you compare those areas to Fort Collins area? What scared me a bit about north of Denver are the huge number of fracking sites, almost no fracking sites south of Denver.

Think drought. In 10 years PBS rates Colorado Springs as one of the worst places to live due to drought. Fire is a big risk. Insurance is high. There is no monsoon season. This is false. We are in drought conditions. Wild fires take out homes every year. It does get down to single digits and sometimes below 0. It is true there is a lot of sun. There is also a lot skin cancer. Infrastructure hasn't kept up with growth. Can be hard to get professional appointments.

I forgot to mention in the small towns here, you don’t have to lock your door when you go out and crime here isn’t a thing. So if you come from a big city here, the feeling of safety takes a lot of people by surprise! Its a way of life you don’t see in much of the country where you have to be vigilant about your surroundings and make sure your doors and windows sew locked before you go about your day.

Nothing against what you are saying, just a side note, calling a lake "a reservoir", as Colorado does, sounds ridiculous. Texas has hundreds of lakes but only one lake, (Caddo Lake) on the Texas Louisiana border is the only natural lake in Texas, all the other hundred or more lakes are man-made, and we still call them lakes, probably because reservoir sounds really dumb.
there’s something we need to tell you
