I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

The big surprise for me has been the absolutely ridiculous property taxes. Considering the local gov can basically steal your home because you may not be able pay the outragous $6000 to $10000 in annual taxes, after getting so excited to move to the area, I was honestly embarassed to learn about it. No government can reasonbly justify rates that high.

We are happy we moved here but it has been a challenging transition: 1. Weather is erratic. It's not just the hot summers but the scary lightning storms in the spring, and the cold wind and ice storms in the winter. Ah yes, the tornado warnings and actual tornadoes. Lots of wind. 2. Snakes and spiders. We live in the country granted, but in less than six months we've already had a 4 ft rat snake on the back porch and a huge black widow in the garden. There are a variety of bugs constantly. 3. Air quality is extremely poor at times Still, we are glad to be here!

Blue values in Canada would be Conservative. The Americans screwed up the associated colours compared to the rest of the planet when it came to political orientation. Also, the US is actually a country where the majority population are more Liberal leaning yet have a two party system that are leaning to if not on the extreme right. Also, as a traditional Muslim woman, I would say that the US is the last place you want to live as the xenophobic, especially in Christian Right Texas would try to boot you out or worse. Also, our health care and social systems are a little better here in Canada but if you want true religious and human rights freedom, look to the Scandinavian countries as they are very accommodating.

What no one told me about moving to DFW is all the allergies. I am allergic to mosquitoes which is a huge problem here. I cannot go outside most of the year without putting bug spray all over my body including my face. Also, the pollen allergies. I wake up everyday to congestion because of the year round allergies here which there is no cure for. Excema and skin problems also are much worse here than when I lived in California and Nevada. These things make daily living uncomfortable no matter how much money you have or what nice area in the dfw area you live in. Things to consider when moving to DFW.

One year I developed a strong skin allergy, there were rushes in many places of the body, lymph was coming out .. A doctor prescribed antibiotics of course, which cured the problem for one week, after which I needed to go to see her again, pay and by more antibiotics. Smth rang in my mind about legumes diet, since I knew about a good face mask from beans pasta. So I thought that if the bean pasta is good for your skin, the legumes might be good as a food to tread my skin condition. My husband is a big fan of beans, so we went on heavily legume diet. All the allergy went away in 1 week for good. From that time I always try to include some beans (or any other legumes) in our diet at least once a month. I think it is very good for your skin. I'm sorry for the condition you have.

I live in Ventura, California near the beach. People tell me online California is bad and I should move. I'm not moving unless it's a step up. The weather anywhere outside of Ventura is horrible. It's either too hot or too cold. Then you add in the insects and critters which makes it more dangerous to be outside. I'm only moving if it's going to be financially worth it which would probably require making me a millionaire. Also, that hail in your hand might as well have come out of an ice cube tray from the freezer. Get hit on the head by one of those falling out of the sky and that could be a traumatic brain injury.

Dallas city and county is a big blue island in North Texas, and tends to be progressive. Dallas is the only place in Texas I'd live. I live in the beautiful Lake and Garden District around White Rock Lake area. Like living in a small town. Only place I've lived in Dallas Metro where I know my neighbors. Lots of trees, creeks, White Rock Park and Dallas Arboretum. Weather in summer is horrible. Also do your research before moving to Texas. If you're afraid of hail damage I put a class 4 shingle roof on my house. It's worth the peace of mind. The suburbs are flat, treeless, and horrible traffic, won't make that mistake again Dallas and Collin County have DART mass transit. Utilities are high, taxes are high, and San Antonio Express did a comparison between Texas and California and California was cheaper. I stay here because I really love my neighbors.

Feeling you don't like Texas. Couple things you got wrong. As politics go, pretty much all the major cities in Texas vote blue. The suburbs are large and mostly red though. Construction is awful in every city. Downtown Dallas does have some BS construction downtown due to unions trying to keep workers working. On nature, Dallas has many parks, a couple of lakes close by and many sister cities like Fort Worth with some amazing bike and running paths. I highly recommend you get out more. As far Dallas not being a 24hr city, if it's food, there are tons of places open besides Whataburger. Many ethnic food places, fresh made pizza and some burger places. Many more if you look. ...I REALLY think you should explore DFW more. I feel you have allowed yourself to be trapped in small bubble.

This is a good place to learn aviation . It’s hot here and the weather is wacky . One time I took off , the density altitude was so bad I was getting about 400 FPM climb out ! - I took off from Addison this other time - clear skies - bam! Socked in fog off the lakes . I have flown out over to Mesquite by lake Ray Hubbard , on the way out in the afternoon the bumps will have you wanting to barf . I did my night cross country out to an un towered field on a moonless night and lost all my electronic instruments and coms, that was fun ! … I was doing touch and goes over by Mckinney (TKI) and a big gust whipped out Cessna 172 R sideways when I was about 10 feet over the field - winds at 12 knots then some bizarre gust ! Happens all the time - we have epic winds out here in DFW - We also have these microburst . Sudden down rush of cold air . Will slam a big jet right into the ground . Also the class bravo out here is busy as hell , not only will you learn to deal with our wacky af weather but you will get real good at talking to the ATC . And they are some pretty bitter bches believe me ! So yea the flight training here is good because you have the big azz bravo airspace , mean controllers , permanent TFR right off Addison ( President Bush house ) , wacky AF weather , and lots of traffic - hell the day of my solo out to Paris Texas I had to divert due to unscheduled jumpers ( parachuters ) over by Cado mills - they were not supposed to be jumping , checked ahead of time - I’m monitoring the ctaf on com2 and I hear “jumpers away “ yup divert over by lake Lavon . Best training is at American flyers in Addison btw . Always monitor the ctaf ! My zen words to aspiring pilots …peace out .

Well, the stereotypical Texan in a lot of people's minds is probably a cowboy hat wearing, Republican card carrying, devoutly Christian old white guy with pearl-handled six shooters on both sides of his hips, dressed in a tan suit and a longhorn bolo tie, cowboy boots that shouts "Howdy" as a greeting and "Yeehaw" when they are excited.

I love number 1 since I hate wokness and like the more conservative values. The pay though to live in a safe neighborhood is 1,000 minimum rent unless you have roommates I started off in oak cliff and had to call the police 3 times a month to report gunshots in the apartment complex, a car is a must here so pro freedom of movement, cons very expensive repair costs for used, very high insurance premiums for new. I started off with the bus it's super unreliable due to driver shortage. So overall I am looking to move to East Asia. Large cities are great which is why I loved Tokyo. The nightlife is stellar and welcoming as well in Dallas it's hit or miss but high prices are a discouragement unless there's a really good happy hour special.

Every year, spring storms are no joke, and no basements to hide in. Summer heat is wilting, and really works over your house and cars. Worst thing is really the reckless, unchecked entitled drivers. Cost of living is going up fast, and property taxes are super high and rising. Move close to work, or you'll spend lots of your time in crazy traffic. There's nothing to see here if you like nature though, and everything is a long drive away. Still, lots to do and there's everything you could want here if the job pays enough to afford the cost of living. Oh, there's a pretty big cycling culture here if you are into that and don't fear the homicidal latte sipping giant suv driving soccer moms. I care nothing about sports, but am just down the street from the Cowboys "Star" lol.

They will just modify the lines. Texas will stay red because the Blue areas are in the major cities. The rural areas will always dictate voting outcomes and have more of a say than the populated major cities or counties that lean or are Blue. The problem is people are suffering everywhere. Political affiliation isn’t helping people in Blue states anymore than it is here. I know plenty of people who relocated and their companies did not reduce their income. So the income bracket you mention is for those that don’t have a job. Also a lot depends on experience. I work remote and my salary is well above the median. I do have a degree which impacts salary as well as job experience. People shouldn’t let salary deter them and it’s best to get that job before you move here and look for relocation opportunities where the company will assist you with the move. Despite the fluctuations in weather conditions it’s not as bad as many other places, in other states. I have family in CA and used to live there back in the day but was born in Texas. I live in the DFW area and fear earthquakes and wild fires far more than tornadoes.

I would suggest using Google maps or this website that gives you a general idea of about how far 40 minute drive would be. Haha, do not move to Waco. It sucks (in my opinion). I mean, it's fine, I guess but it is very, very conservative and not nearly as much to do as a city that size should have. I grew up in Abilene, and when we were looking for schools, all my friends used to make fun of Baylor bc Waco was so boring. DFW, Houston, and Austin/San Antonio are the biggest cities in Texas, and you can also add in El Paso, but that is way west Texas, almost in New Mexico. DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) also isn't really near any of the other large cities. In fact, non of the large cities are close to each other. Austin/San Antonio is centrally located, so you might say that is the closest, but it's still 3-4 hours to Dallas if I remember correctly. Just look for something around Dallas. There's a million little cities and areas in the DFW metroplex. That's definitely your best bet. I don't really know a lot about all the little suburbs, but Denton, Allen, Frisko, Plano, Grape Vine, Arlington, etc. Also, don't count out good ol' Fort Worth.

They are the biggest for sure. But there are others as well, Austin, San Antonio are also pretty large.

A lot of the videos I watch about living in the Dallas area make it sound like there's snakes everywhere, is that true?

I usually on see dead ones, but they are here. Usually around water. Or area that have land where they can hide. They usually don’t want anything to do with humans. Rat snakes love eating rodents too, you see them more often.
