😟 People tell me all the time that they WANT to get better at wrestling and learning takedowns (specifically takedowns below the waist), but they are SO SCARED of getting caught in a guillotine while shooting in.
💡A few solutions:
1. Stay in good position (head, neck, back) while shooting in.
2. #1 but saying it again.
3. Finish as soon as you get in.
4. Have a good set up.
5. Hop over to the opposite side of the guillotine choke.
6. All of the above!!!
🤷🏻‍♂️ Sometimes people find following those steps to be too much work (🙄) If that is the case and they are still worried about attempting shots below the waist, I just tell them to stick with a blast double or any shot that has their head on the inside and/or jamming into their opponent’s chest.
💡 The blast double leg is powerful and keeps your heads out of guillotine range (under their armpit/next to their lat).
📲 Subscribe to our #youtube channel for extended breakdowns.
*This video teaches you how to safely take a double leg to avoid getting guillotined in BJJ. This answers the question, “how do I take someone down (with below the waist shots) without getting guillotined?”

this is facts, I'm a wrestler and my first couple days I got choked out shooting doubles but to push back a lil bit it also teaches you to have perfect technique like head up, back straight and deep penetration step. For example, I was able to get a takedown on a blue belt with a double leg and even took off him off the mat. I found that doubles work better off when you post their hands up when they are reaching so they dont get a chance to grab your head or to snap their hands down to trap them when you shoot a double. that was kinda long but loving the content with a mix of BJJ and wrestling 👍🏽

No need to worry about a long answer, I appreciate it. The writer/proofreader in me had a little trouble parsing out what you were saying but really great comment about the related techniques like the footwork and hand control. I would say, don't edit the comment. I think YT deletes the "hearted" comments if you do edit it.

Risking breaking your neck tho. If the guy or girl doesn’t practice bridging and other neck strengthening exercises often they risk injuring their neck. Be careful with this one people. On the flip side, I fully agree. Blast double is a lot safer way to take a person down avoiding the choke.

Do it with the side of the head. Slam with the side of the head and the ear.

Train your neck regularly with bands and plates, look at wrestlers and how thick their neck and upper back / traps are, there’s a reason for that. Bjj guys with no wrestling background usually have skinny necks and no athleticism and strength like wrestlers do so get injured often when wrestling

When I shoot a blast double I shrug my traps to help with the impact. To be honest, when I was in college I bulged a few discs in my back (not from a double) and I would constantly get stingers and burners if I hit my head too hard during a blast double leg, BUT… that was because I already had a really bad inflamed condition with bad discs (muscle atrophy and all). Outside of that injury, which eventually recovered, I’ve never had a neck injury or issue from shooting a blast double. I would just recommend doing what I said with your traps and making sure your neck is up, straight, and strong when blasting into their chest. Head down = top of head hitting them and that is probably worse.

Getting choked now, which you can escape easily. Or having a severe neck injuries in your 30´s you cant recover from. "Coach can we train more blast doubles?" "You can do it with your neck, I like feeling my fingers and toes"

@@themerge.online Bro, I like your stuff nearly as much as I like my vertebrates, but the biggest disadvatage of the head outside is, the easy cross face in my experience. If you keep your head at his leg/hip level, or break his scapula by going high like a duckunder the guillotine is not that dangerous. Usually people guillotine themselves by having a bad posture and or bead head position. If you bend over and keep your head at his rips, yes you give a guillotine. I see the value of blast doubles in higher level wrestling and maybe MMA but for Grappling BJJ its another physicaly demanding and dangerous way to land in your opponents guard, like 70% of the other "takedowns for BJJ" video.
