I‘ve been printing for years now and never ever had any problem with paper sticking on my gel plate. I used literally each and every type of paper on the market. Including thin cheap printer paper. Also I let the paper dry on the gel plate a longer or shorter amount of time…. Doesn’t matter. I guess it’s the gel plate itself which causes the problems. I use a different brand. Or maybe it’s better to use some baby wipes every now and then to keep the plate smooth and clean.

Hello! I can't thank you enough! I bought some copy paper yesterday, and it was sticking to the plate. I thought, "Hummm... maybe this paper is too thin." Then I checked the package, and it was written 75 grams-way too thin. Well, tomorrow I'll come back to the store to buy another pack with the highest thickness possible. Nice and useful video! Thanks again :)

In many videos it is said that you should even leave the paper on the plate overnight, some even heat it with a hairdryer. I can't imagine that this works, mine have also torn the paper many times. Thank you very much, I will try it with more paint.

Oh, wow! So many questions answered in one video. Thanks so much, Lou. I think I needed to start right here with your suggestions. I like the idea of using distress oxides.

Thank you so much Lou, I feel I found this especially for me. You explain so much in such a way that it completely makes sense. I bought the textures Gelli plate after first watching your video and being inspired, however no matter how hard I tried it stuck, I watched loads of videos and got more and more confused. I got more papers with no joy, I finally changed my paints to cheaper pouring paints. Now I understand that the final layer needs to be wet in order to pull the print. Off to play some more, thanks again, Christine

I'd wondered why I never had the paper stick to my gel plate (I'm by no means experienced), but I realized that I switched to cardstock almost immediately when I started gel printing as I don't really use paper in my cardmaking, just mainly cardstock, and I thought it be more economical to just go ahead and use cardstock from the get go. I do use paper to remove the excess from my brayer and may save those if they're particularly interesting. The only "negative" for me with gel printing is that I can't stop once I start and thus end up with tons and tons of backgrounds to use.

Great tips. I've had trouble using watercolor paper, but I think it's because the paper was too textured.

Just to be clear, navigator paper is a brand, correct? It’s not like the term cartridge paper, ie, a style or weight of paper.

I bought a gel plate from the thrift store with paint dried to it. How do I clean that? I've used soap, so that's bad. Is there a way to revitalize it?
