My oil filter goes on sideways so you can't always fill the oil filter with any oil.. maybe a few ml/oz at most.

You can still saturate the media inside the filter. Better some than none

My neighbor's daughter took her mom's 2014 Corolla to a "mechanic" for an oil change. The "mechanic" tightened the Oil-filter Housing to 117 foot-pounds...when it's supposed to be tighted to 25 foot-pounds at its ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM. And, she won't tell me which "mechanic" she took it to...AND, she keeps going back to that same mechanic. I have a few rules when it comes to people even touching my car. And, one of the rules is, "Never, never, NEVER trust a mechanic to do anything big on a car...if he/she can't even do an oil change properly."

Another tip: don't tighten the drain plug before installing the new filter. Best to let both filter and pan drain at the same time

Different OEM’s have different designs and oil filter orientations, so unfortunately some can’t be pre filled, especially those that are installed ‘upside down’. If you’re worried about dry firing the engine then pull the fuel pump fuse and then crank the engine to build up oil pressure, but your oil pump pumps oil really quickly anyway. Certain OEM’s don’t advocate oiling the o’ring seal before installing the filter too. I’ve seen a few guys make the mistake of not checking that the old o’ring came off with the old filter and had a lovely mess to clean up after or worse, having to pull an engine. Read the manuals if uncertain. Keep wrenching friends.
