someone opened a hot dog stand a few years ago, he couldnt make a go of it, he tried, but was very conscientious about his food, he laughed, he gave his dogs all left overs every night, so started fresh every morning, they were delicious, but he was in parking lot of business, not lots of traffic, so I understand why, but I miss him, as the dogs were better than any restaurant in town

You should've bought two of them and given one to the vendor to eat in front of you! If they won't eat it, that's a bad sign. Sure, some of the vendors will decline for religious reasons but the dogs are made of beef - not pork, so not eating pork is not a valid excuse. And if the vendor is vegetarian, maybe they shouldn't be selling hot dogs!

I work in NYC and grabbed a chicken & rice platter from a near by halal food cart. The chicken had the consistency of CARTBOARD. I went back as he was cooking chicken and asked if i wanted another plate. I obviously got yesterdays meat which i couldnt even chew and he was offering me todays meat. I just wanted my money back... Not all vendors are bad but YES, its best to watch for the signs. Especially when buying at an earlier time of the day!

I hate to tell you this, but vendors are no different than fast food and other restaurants even fine dining. Food prepared in advanced, stored and used next day until used. It only has to be thrown out after a certain period. Even subway puts the old food in the fridge and uses it until it’s gone. Never thrown away unless it hits the ground.

I don’t know about nyc but where I’m from if not uncommon for a restaurant to save food for a day or two. I do that in my house as well. It’s called leftovers

What blows my mind is some vendors wear the disposable gloves (not all) while making your dog, then proceed to handle paper money with these gloves still on, and proceed to grab hotdog buns (next customer) with gloves that have handled that money. 🤢 I mean can you not change your G..damn gloves between orders?!?

Thank you for this video. Again it's important to know that years ago the hot dogs were EXCELLENT but sadly today there are so many horrible hot dog vendors and it's best to take your ADVISE when craving for an original hot dog that should have that snap bursting with flavor as opposed to a GREEN GRAY SOGGY NO FLAVOR DOG FOR $5. Thanks so much for sharing your information for us OLD SCHOOL hot dog lovers❤. Thanks for the HotDog education. I was told Casper hot dogs are as close as the old school original dogs with the snap and bust of flavor. If you don't squirted when bitting into a hot dog then there's a chance it's not the Best dog. For now I occasionally buy Nathans or Sabrett . Not sure about board head brand. Maybe do a review on the 3 or 4 best grocery dogs😉. Thanks again

Next time you buy a hot dog if you see it's not fresh ask hey why is the hotdogs green hey why dose the onions not look fresh why why why your paying four bucks for a day old dog don't take the dog nah you know what I Changed my mind everything is not fresh . This way he will realize people are not just gonna keep quiet and just take the hotdogs .

It’s normal. Even in fine dining and fast food. Most food is stored and used next day to make sure no waste. In fact subway even puts their food end of night in fridge until the next day and the bread you get from opening until 10am ish is usually all day old bread too. This is common. Not sure why anyone is surprised.

Another thing was the condiment bottles. DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY!! Probably half grease-fed dirt, other half mold. Black mold. Just go back and look at the mustard bottle. 2:06 Reminded me of ya boy that was last seen in front of the Hyatt. His bottles just a bit worse. If ya can't take care of ya condiment bottles, ya not taking care of ya cart!

I always make my food at home do not trust restaurants or vendors I buy my hot dogs and make them at home with all the trimmings and that's that.

When I saw the kraut, I would have said sorry - forget it. They would have just scraped the kraut back, put the dog back in the water and left the roll for the next customer/sucker. No way would I have paid for that once I saw the kraut going on.

Missed a few on the first stand. the condiment bottles were dirty. Nd he used the same tongs for the Dogs, and both condiments. No gloves are worn and there are no hand wash/sanitizing products in sight. Tongs rest on the open exterior of the cart where I’m 100% sure bugs craw all over all day.

I visited New York for the first time in June and stopped at a hot dog stand right across the street from this stand (you can see it at 3:18) and had a similar experience. worst hot dog I've had .

I’ll never understand how most people run businesses ! 1 pee peeve I have it’s owners that are very cheap! At the end of day , throw out remaining onions and things that are in there sitting ! What can you possible lose ? 1-2 whole onions chopped ? About 200 grams of sauerkraut ? Some bread , we’re talking maybe 5-10$ worth of ingredients at most , compared to the hundreads of hot dogs they sell it’s not a big loss whatsoever , keep it fresh , keep it clean , and make sure you order the right amount of stuff correctly , hot dogs at the end of day should be priced lower so you can start optimum fresh tomorrow and still give a quality product same day ! It’s brutal seeing cheapskate owners like that , I would go above and beyond if I had a cart etc … I would even have the best before dates on the sauces on the actual bottles ! I would check 2-3 times a day to see if all sauces are the right temp amd fresh etc … nothing worse then a cheapskate owner

many years ago I was in front of Javit Center for a car show. When I asked for a Hotdog he wanted to charge me $5 after he made it for me, I told him are you crazy hot dogs cost about $1.50 why you charging so much, He told me it's because of the convention. Bull crap, he was on a public sidewalk not inside the convention. He got mad and threw it in the garbage. he was selling the pretzels at $8 I am talking 15 years ago. Fook those clowns, let them starve.

I gotta say, NYC dogs ain’t got nothing on LA street dogs! First off, they’re fresh off the grill, and wrapped in bacon. No boiled dogs here! You know they’re good just by the smell of fresh grilled onions in the air, which is phenomenal, especially at 3 am. The prices are very reasonable, the service is always top notch and fast, and you can get grilled peppers, jalapeños, and other toppings. No heavy sauces to hide the flavors. And then there’s always the iconic spots, like Pink’s, Cupid’s, Earle’s, and Joe’s.

Kraut was brown so maybe that’s not good, but you do realize food is still good the second day right? As long as it has been kept at appropriate temps. Maybe not the dogs but condiments like those are most likely processed.
