Do you think academia pays bioinformatician well? Can I transition from research scientist to bioinformatic by taking R certification
@genomicswithgeorgia7 ай бұрын
I do! It pays better than wet lab, and it’s then a great transition into tech roles in industry and beyond. Taking an R course will certainly help, but you’ll need to find ways to build bioinformatic projects and evidence your new skills to prove yourself :)

Thank you for your response I’m working on R and python courses in genomic data science How do I build bioinformatics projects

Hey Georgia I’m a genetics major and I plan on relearning python 😅. Would you still recommend phyton + web dev that’s kind of what I learnt before now or is there a specific type of python I should learn. I don’t know if they have python for bioinformatics

Hey! Hmm, web dev is a cool thing you can do with python but I wouldn’t prioritise it over other uses of python. As always seize whatever opportunities are near you (and if there’s a web dev course that’s easily accessible then any exposure to coding is good exposure). You want to learn python for general coding concepts (variables, loops, conditionals, etc) for data analysis (pandas numpy) for data science (sci-kit learn and genomic data packages eg Scikit bio) and then python for pipeline building ✨
