Regarding piercings: You are correct in that the risk goes up; however, one must go to an actual certified piercer to get pierced (not Claire's or Piercing Pagoda), and any _legitimate_ piercer is going to use implant-grade titanium jewelry (not surgical stainless steel) for the initial jewelry in order to avoid nickel allergies and help in the process of healing.

Just found out I have a nickel allergy as I developed a rash from the barbell being placed on my back. I have being using this same barbell for 2 years and the last year developed an incredibly itchy rash. I didn’t put two together as it wasn’t something that occurred immediately. Was prescribed a steroid and I now place a foam protector on the barbell and my rash has stayed away. Just thought I share this as exercise equipment may also contain nickel.

I have, luckily, grown out of my eczema issues -- nickel allergy included -- was also hyper-allergic to handling plants (like weeds). It was so miserable. At the time, my dermatologist (the first one, who I stopped seeing very quickly) told my mom I had a "mental health issue". Wow! Next dermatologist used X-ray treatments on my hands every week or two (I wonder about the long-term effects at this point in my life)...tough issue to handle.

My toddler granddaughter has had fairly severe eczema since birth. Has allergies to many things as well as was dxd with asthma after RSV last yr. Its awful watching kids suffer, so sorry your little one is struggling. Every day is differe nt for my granddaughter, the drs didnt take it serious for a long time & tbh I still dont think they take it as serious as they should esp emotionally aa they get older & get to be school age. The physical part is hard enough, right? Wish they had many treatments besides steroid based ones. The 1 shes on now seems to be helping finally(weve tried so many creams & remedies)but its an injection. Hope you find relief for your sweet one soon.

Currently have 22 piercings and learnt my lesson in my younger years after having severe reactions! Thank you so much for your content this has been extremely useful. Suffered from extreme eczema as a child (over 70% of my body) mainly inherited (mixed Nigerian/English background) along with other allergies (egg, dairy, dust, animals etc). in recent years my eczema has returned and I’m really struggle to manage it, atopic, nummular … you name it I’ve got it. Here in the Uk we have a different approach to healthcare and often don’t have access to dermatologists and instead have to rely on GP’s. The creams we are advised to use often have irritants (alcohols etc). Might be a challenge but can you recommend products that are available to the UK? currently using Cetraben (burns) and double base gel.

We should always be careful for Nickel especially these individuals who are allergic to it because the alloys have nickel. Metals commonly alloyed with gold for jewelry purposes include: silver, copper, nickel, iron, zinc, tin, manganese, cadmium, and titanium. In addition to enhancing gold's strength, alloying changes some of its other properties, too. For example, some gold alloys stain skin or cause allergic reactions. It was a really informative video Doctor Andrea and it also rings the bell of caution for everyone 😊❤ because allergy is a sneaky little devil 😈.

There are some golds that have nickel in them as an alloy. I had some 14 k gold earrings from Ireland that I can’t wear since they make my ears itchy which means it had nickel in them. I have to get gold that specifies that it’s hypoallergenic which means it has no nickel in it.

My mom insisted on getting my ears pierced when i was younger, and she didn’t want to pay a few extra dollars for 14k gold. Despite cleaning the piercings religiously, they would get infected, and after it would heal, my mom would take me elsewhere to get them pierced. We even tried the hypoallergenic studs, but they weren’t 14k gold good. By the SEVENTH piercing session when I was seven years old, the woman at the store told my mom I really need 14k gold and I should pierce slightly higher so when I get older, my earlobes won’t droop as much if I like to wear hoops. My mom swore this woman was just trying to make more money off us by insisting I need 14k gold, but no. She was working at Icing. A little over a couple decades later and I haven’t had an issue with them. I rarely ever wear earrings, and the holes never closed either. I’m thankful for that woman’s knowledge and how she wasn’t afraid to back down on her opinion on needing gold rather than the other type of earrings they pierce with.

@emilyclaire319 8 ай бұрын
@@Hemmyii I get mine from my local licensed piercing shop. Basic pieces can be affordable and flashy/show stopping pieces are more of an investment but they’re all guaranteed for life. There are also piercer content creators that have online shops I’ve seen with the same type of jewelry. Don’t be afraid to ask the piercer/shops about their jewelry, they should be able to answer any questions you have. If they say they don’t have the quality certificates or don’t know if they’re implant grade, run away.

I have a small patch of slightly dry skin on my upper right wrist It is barely noticeable or problematic until I drink alcohol (eg. red wine)...then this small area of skin becomes inflamed (red and itchy, not bumpy or oozy though). So it seems that the cause of the problem (in my situation) is not the alcohol itself, but it does exacerbate an already existing skin barrier issue. I avoid wearing jewellery on my right wrist for the same reason. I only drink wine occasionally, knowing that the inflammation will subside shortly after. 👱🏻‍♀️❤️

I get small red patches not that bumpy or itchy just red patches on my inner wrist and lower belly sometimes on my hips and inner thigh. I was so stressed when i first found it because it wasn't look like eczema i thought it was something else. It was looking like i burnt my skin. Then i went to derm and he said that i had an eczema. He prescribed me hydrocortisone but i dont wanna use it every time i get flares. I try to moisturize my whole body after shower and make sure at least 2 times moisturizing patches in a day. I wonder what you do when you get flares?

I believe I developed contact dermatitis to an ingredient (likely fragrance or essential oil) in my favorite lip balm many years ago, and as a result I developed eczema on my lips and was put on protopic by my doctor. I used it for many years until it stopped working a couple years ago and I had the worst rash I've ever had in my life, where the skin cracked, developed yellow scabs and wept and itched all over my mouth. It even started spreading past my lips to other areas of my face. When I went to the doctor they prescribed a stronger steroid, which kept it under control, but now I can't go without the steroid for more than 2 days without the rash returning. I'm positive I have topical steroid addiction, and I'm wondering how to heal from it without having to go through the dreaded TSW (topical steroid withdrawal). Are the colloidal oatmeal compresses and other remedies you mentioned in this video enough to heal from the rash after going off of my topical steroid? There doesn't seem to be much conclusive information about how to overcome TSW symptoms, so any information or a dedicated video would be lifesaving. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.

did the excessive protopic use cause hypperpigmentation? it did for me, quite severe. there isnt any info on tsw at all. my personal opinion is to try reintroducing the protopic slowly while still on the steroid, and then slowly reduce steroid while increasing protopic. aloe vera, hypochloros acid, ichthammol helps but nothing beats steroid not even protopic. you can also ask your derm for opelzura or maybe even dupixent from your derm, although not sure about dupixent as yours is localized.

Dr Dray, I'm hoping you can make a video discussing "invisible itch". I have this itch that does not come with a rash of any sort, no red skin at all and is present 100% of the time in varying degrees. I've had it for over a year and have not found it's cause or anything that helps it feel better. The itch is localized to the area between my breasts. I thought it was an allergy to dairy but have since given up dairy completely due to other symptoms of lactose intolerance. Still, there is hidden dairy in many things and my itch gets worse every once in awhile. I've taken steps to keep the area dry as much as possible since I know that is an area that tends to be warmer. Anyway, wondering if this is common? What could it be? Why no rash or redness? (I do have a Dr. appt tomorrow)

The company was willing to refund me as I was the second person to react to the trace amount. No cosmetics for me either. I’m the dihydrotic eczema reaction queen 😂😢

my dyshydrotic eczema went down significantly after i reintoduced fragranced hand soap (equates version of soft soap) and stopped wearing gloves when doing the dishes. it makes no sense. my normal eczema is alive and well though lol

I figured out I had a nickel Alergy from my earrings. Also if you have an Alergy to PPD in hair dye there is a correlation with nickel allergies

I am a hairstylist who has been suffering from an on-going flare up all over my face, neck, chest, body and hands for the past 6 months. Body has been improved by moisturizer but my face and hands just won’t calm down 😢 I stopped wearing make up and jewelry since 6 months ago, but I do require glasses to see. Feeling quite hopeless while waiting for allergist appointment and patch test appointment😅 Not sure if it’s necessary for me to consider switching career (which I’ve been doing hair for half my life at this point)

I was recently diagnosed with a nickel allergy. This video was SO helpful! I swore my pant clasp was triggering my nickel allergy but I thought I was going crazy because my shirt was tucked in. I’m not crazy! If I’m not actively bothered by my bra clasp, should I need to use a sports bra instead? I do sometimes get rashes on my back but normally when I’m triggered by nickel I realize pretty soon so I think I would make the correlation 🤔

Some animals have skin/fur that is fluorescent when (or even after) it is exposed to light! I discovered this after listening to a radio show called "What The Duck?!" hosted & produced by Ann Jones. (ABC Australia RN). It's not that surprising that exotic animals can be fluorescent,.but apparently so are sheep! It's not eczema related, but interesting for anyone curious, or wishing to nerd out! It's a fascinating & entertaining radio series about animals & wildlife (inc. birds insects, arachnids, sea creatures etc). 👱🏻‍♀️❤️

Oh man, I have so many of these. I have a nickel allergy. I often get dyshidrosis on my fingers if I wear many types of artificial nails. I have seborrheic dermatitis behind my ears. 😭 I don’t know if it’s related but I’ve developed Blepharitis on my eyelids. There are so many triggers that it can be hard to know for sure what triggered each flare.

@@db-gb5xi Thank you. I have talked with my eye doctor about it. The challenge is I am guessing at what causes a flare. I got rid of certain eye makeup and I stopped using hair products that I suspected might cause a flare.

@@carolgardens7294 Thanks; unfortunately, seborrheic dermatitis isn't curable, but it could be that you might not have many flares, which is fantastic. Mine is almost always flared, so I have to use an anti-dandruff shampoo to keep it in check, or sometimes I need something stronger from my derm.
