I will add, something I forgot to say in the video! This is an issue with the board itself, I i heard someone call it the console management system? Its absolutely nothing to do with the disc drive, incase you find this unit to use for parts.

I have the same exact model of that console. I ve bought it 2nd hand from UK, in 2021 and I guess it was also used before me heavily. The model was produced in march 2001. To this day, I play on it every day, and even badly scratched discs with no issues at all. The console was never oppened before, as the waranty sticker was intact. I ve decided to open and clean it, and damn, it was quite a lot of dust in there. The only issue I ve had was with the disc tray that it will make a weird sound when ejecting it and it will shake a little. This was only present when placing the console horizontaly. Vertically, had no issues. Even tho I lubbed the mechanism inside and seems to fix the problem. Other than that, no problems at all with it. Now that I ve seen this vid, im quite afraid to stress the laser further with scratched discs, I really dunno what to say. Also, idk if its such a big deal, but it even has the original CMOS battery that still works.
@curtis8516Ай бұрын
From what I've gathered with other people and a guy on here who has a lot of knowledge on these, the issue isn't caused by playing scratched discs, as that just causes the laser to burn out which is then easily replaceable with a new one. It's an issue with the board itself, a kind of malfunction that just happens further down the consoles life. So if it hasn't happened yet, it will
@ThePrivateGamer19Ай бұрын
@@curtis8516 it will happen with everything at a certain time, nothing is endless. And also could you tell me whats the part of the console that will eventually die sooner than the others? I also wanna ask if I leave my console plugged in the wall all the time, will it damage something from it? Rather than just unplug it everytime im not playing on it, or turn the power off from the switch, on the back side of the console.
@curtis8516Ай бұрын
@@ThePrivateGamer19leaving it switched on won't do any harm, mines always been in standby for the last 23 years and it's still going. If that was the case, it would be the PSU board that would need replacing, they're a plug and play unit - very easy to replace. I can't remember the guy's channel name, but I typed in SCPH 30003 R and he explains it's a part of the board, meaning hardware, chips getting corrupted etc.

@@curtis8516 maybe my unit is a lucky one, who knows 😅. But thanks so much for at least letting me know about the issue. Any other stuff I should be worried about or any other tips? I own pretty much every ps console, except the ps5, and the ps2 remains my favourite one, due to how it looks and also how old it is. :))
@curtis8516Ай бұрын
@@ThePrivateGamer19 not really, these are pretty bulletproof. The earlier, the better as they use higher quality components and stuff is easier to access, such as the CMOS battery being under the lid, rather than under 3 layers of motherboards and trays etc.

Thanks for the heads up😃 The one PS2 model I've been maintaining is a 39K model. It plays fine after being left for dead for 10 years and went thrugh some abuses. I fixed it up with spare parts from other broken PS2s for con/Mem Card port, that blue cover thingy for the USB connectors, the cooling fan and the power/reset/eject buttons. It plays regular DVD and CD games fine, but when playing Dual Layer DVD games, I have to keep resetting until it reads discs. But overall, it plays fine. I've also replaced the CMOS battery to keep the date and time current(and also in case I'm playing MGS3 and want to skip a particular boss with a sniper rifle). Now I've been collecting games (mostly cheap second hand) to play on my 39K PS2. The thing is some of those games I got are also ported to Switch. Then again, if the PS2 version of some games are cheaper than on Switch, that would be a good reason to buy them😆 Also with an HD Converter, the PS2 is even better🤩Although I can't help it but to keep forgetting that I'm not playing on a CRT TV when playing on an HDTV. Well, it's cos I also have a PS2 slim connected to a CRT TV for light gun shooters.

It probably needs a new laser in it, unless it does what this does, waits around a minute and then starts spinning up/booting the disc.

Mine just eats the disc. It does work perfectly, but it closes the tray automaticly after opening. Putting ps2 discs in there requires serious timing 😂 still i love this console
@curtis85163 ай бұрын
This can normally be fixed by opening up the console, then opening the disc drive lid and then basically spraying a load of IPA contact cleaner onto the switches that the disc tray parts ''bumps into'' to trigger it to know that the disc tray is open. There's one near the lens that you can see and then there's one that's under the tray near the white cogs.

I had both a 30k and 50k The 30k series work way hotter than the 50k which stays cool even after 2 hour play, it remains as if its turned off you don't even hear its fan. It runs so low that you sometimes think its not spinning . So if you come across a phat ps2 and its a 50k model just take it home ❤
