I started perineal massage at week 36, and continued it twice a week up until I delivered. After the first couple times I felt like I wasn’t stretching as effectively as I wanted, so I asked my husband to help and he was able to take over the massage. Each massage was about five minutes, and each time I could tell that my perineum was stretching further and with less discomfort. I had no tears during labor and delivery! And I definitely attribute that to the consistent and effective perineal massage-so thankful to have been given this advice!

I swear doing perineal massages with your partner is the best way to prevent tearing. We did these before I had our first born who was 8 lbs, and I gave birth abnormally fast and with intense back labor. I was super tense and didn’t know how to breathe or cope, because our son was birthed in the car with no midwives present. He just came so fast out of nowhere. But I didn’t tear! We started at 36 weeks I think, doing it every night for 10 minutes. I gave birth at almost 40 weeks

I swear by evening primrose oil! I inserted 1 vaginally starting at 36 weeks every other night, and worked up to inserting 2 every night around 39 weeks, and did the perineal massage with vitamin E and my recovery was amazing. I know it’s not the same for everyone but I was induced at 41 weeks and had a fast labor and delivery (6.5 hours total, and 3 pushes) and I had 0 tears and honestly the soreness was gone after only a few days!

Hmmm…yes, there’s a reason it’s called labour. It will never feel like nothing. But it’s manageable and doable when we do certain things like perineum massage, drink red raspberry leaf tea etc. As someone who had a baby 13.02pm yesterday I’m speaking from my own experience. I had no tear at all and no pain medication before, during or after and this baby at 3.75kg is my biggest yet. The bruising I had was immaterial, because poo and pee feel normal, I can cough, sneeze and laugh with joy which is a miracle, because prior to delivery I had pelvic girdle pain and even used crutches to get around. Yes, those who took red raspberry tea will notice longer and more intense contractions,😱 My contractions were lasting more than 2.30mins. Breathing through that is a challenge, even the labour midwife said wow that is long and intense. I didn’t even drink it every day or It did pay off, I went into the hospital by 10am and was 3cm dilated with a contraction of 4mins average and by 13.02pm baby made an entrance. The ring of fire will always be the ring of fire, but it didn’t last 5mins in that position, you can feel hot liquid gushing out of you especially if your babies are like mine that break their water.
@kasban86722 жыл бұрын
How early did you start drinking that tea in your pregnancy?
@newt18342 жыл бұрын
@@kasban8672 from research and prenatal classes they said around 32 weeks as it can start contractions. I used the loose leaves mostly, because most tea bags contained other things other than red raspberry leaves. I found out about it in my second trimester, some said avoid in 1st trimester and some say it helps with hyperemesis gravidarum which I have in 1st trimester.

Here was my routine to achieve ZERO tearing for a FIRST time mom. My sons arm also came out with his head so that added some circumference and was a 9lb baby! 😅 PERINEAL MASSAGE - everyday starting at 30-32ish weeks (I missed a few days but did my best to do it once a day, twice a day once I hit 38 weeks) I would just use coconut oil for the massage BORAGE OIL - 1000mg capsule inserted vaginally every other night at 32 weeks, the mid wife’s recommended to use two capsules as it got closer to my due date. (Wear a panty liner to bed because some oil can drip out) NITROUS (laughing gas)- if you’ve done your research than you know that epidurals increase the chances for tearing. I had my son at a birthing center where they offered Laughing Gas, I wanted to try to go naturally but once I was at 5cm dialated I needed something to help ease the pain and nitrous was the perfect alternative! It eased the pain perfectly but I could still feel him coming out so I knew when to stop pushing and hold back. I believe this had the biggest part to play in having no tearing. RED RASPBERRY LEAF TEA- 1-2 tea bags daily. Drinking this mostly helps with uterine health. My uterus shrunk down SO fast and I dropped all my pregnancy weight gain in a week and a half. (30lbs)

I have vaginismus, i am 25 weeks pregnant. Can you give tips on how to prepare for cervix dilation check. Thankyou!
@melindamercier68113 жыл бұрын
Oh I so feel for you, how did it go? I had it during my first pregnancy but it was undiagnosed so checks were hell on earth. Everything from sex to pap smears to cervical checks were near impossible or ridiculously painful. We tried perineal massage but those were painful as well. I almost shot off the bed when my midwives tried to check me during a contraction. My entire labor and delivery no one had any idea what my dilation was. I kept apologizing because it wasn’t like I didn’t want them to get the info they needed. But 3 midwives and a doctor were present and not a single one diagnosed me (not even touching on how many previous gyns I’d seen for my yearly checks, and still no diagnosis). And I was so tense I tore 3rd degree for a 6lb baby after a 30hr labor. Took me 3 months to recover. Talk about traumatizing. I ended up finding out on my own online years later. Thankfully the birth of my daughter seems to have resolved the issue because I’ve never experienced it again. If I could go back and talk to myself prior to labor, I’d have said “Just get the epidural, you’ll thank me later.”

Go they categorize tears s far as how bad they are in degrees, first being the least bad and fourth being the worst which can often result in needing surgery. So mine was pretty bad, got a big ugly tear all the way back to my anus. It also has had trouble healing. I am now 7w post partum and the dr has had to treat what he has called granulated tissue with an estrogen cream called Premarin and also put some silver nitrate on it, which has caused more pain and bleeding. So I will day again.... anyone that’s pregnant PLEASE take her advice 😂 😭

Great video Bridget! Love all your videos! Totally agree that a little bit of birth prep can go a long way to prevent vaginal tears! I like to also instruct my prenatal clients to do a "perineal stretch" where they (or most of the time their birth partner) hold the stretch at 5 & 7 o'clock continuously for 5-10 minutes, every day or every other day as of 34 weeks. This way they learn how to cope with a continuous pressure in the vaginal area, which is closer to the sensation they get during the pushing stage. Do you also recommend the perineal stretch Bridget?

Hi Dee, I thought I would answer your question about evening primrose oil. So I would recommend Mount Purious as it is organic. You should be able to find it on a google search. However, you don't have to use evening primrose oil. You can use olive oil, almond oil or organic sunflower oil. I recommend organic as you know there will be no nasties in the oil. When are you due? Is this your first pregnancy? If you have any questions, do reach out as I also teach antenatal classes and can help and support. Lots of love, Anja xxx
