Interesting video. My husband and I have both had altitude sickness when we went above 12,000 feet in Bolivia. I wanted to add that oxygen can also really help. In Polanco across from the Hospital Espanol, there's a medical supply store called Lanceta. They have all sorts of medical supplies such as oxygen tanks which you can just go and purchase (no doctor or hospital needed). Another option would be to check for an oxygen bar.

Thanks for adding that! I can’t believe I left it out! 💛 (and I’m in the neighborhood so now I know where to go if I need medical supplies 😉)

Just WOW! I’m in CDMX now and was wondering why it’s hard for me to breathe. I walked to the mall and it hit me. The altitude plus my asthma. Thanks Shida!

One can also get a altitude sickness prevention Px before you depart for Mexico City and begin taking it one day before departure.

I am constantly tired in CDMX. Spent my whole life sea level and now I’ve been here for 40 days with no relief. Bloodshot eyes in the morning, tiredness and unable to keep a consistent gym schedule… I’ve been getting stomach sick from the food here too which doesn’t help with energy levels. Be aware before travelling here. Air quality is POOR

Thank you for this video content on this subject, I think I mentioned before that this also happened to me while in Mexico. I also echo that it isn’t talked about enough. I would add to travel with a a pulse oximeter. I had one with me, I’ve traveled with one since the pandemic. I really thought my life was going to end in Mexico. When my oxygen level dropped to 90%, that is what led me to my google research and I was sure that it was altitude sickness. Rest and hydration was essential to my well being. Once I landed back at SFO, oxygen level was back 100% 🙏🏽 **buy a pulse ox, less than $30*** Give your body time to adjust before exploring the city.😊

Thank you so much for this! This has been heavy on my mind. I'll be in CDMX for 2 weeks in April to complete my canje and have been debating bringing this up with my PCP. I got to googling and scared myself thinking I need to be tested for sickle cell before going lol

Very informative! Thank you for that. I'm coming to CDMX in mid-Jan for the first time looking to buy a place, and have a heart condition. I will definitely think through what this might mean for me... and will line up a healthcare facility before arriving, just in case. I wonder if you and/or Tracie could recommend a facility. Love your videos!

I visited CDMX over the summer. I was fine for two days...then I didn't feel well. Felt like I was holding my breath. Felt a little queasy. Had that feeling even when I was sitting down. Will be interested to see if it passes when I'm able to stay in CDMX longer than 5 days. EDIT: Yes, I had to scale WAY back on my 3rd day because didn't have the energy to run around.

I've been to Cusco, Peru en route to Machu Picchu and got altitude sickness. Last year, I got officially diagnosed with a genetic blood disorder. Then I was called for work to spend three weeks in CDMX last summer. I didn't even think to worry about altitude sickness. It was god's grace. It was a wonderful three weeks in the city and I did not experience altitude sickness not even once. 🙏♥️🙏📿

It's surprising to find that a well traveled person would not have done her homework before traveling. How could anyone not be aware of the altitude in Mexico City. I can understand a person not knowing how the altitude will impact them, but taking precautions, like bringing medication, to help manage it.
