Avoiding People at Acadia National Park (6 Things to do) [ep 35]

Even at the end of September we found Acadia National Park to be incredibly busy! With long lines and waits, we got out early in the morning, and ventured pretty far outside of the touristy areas to avoid the crowds.
Jordan Pond Loop was absolutely beautiful but you have to get there early in the morning to get a parking spot, and avoid the people. Bar Island trail was just cool to hike because you can only get to this island during low tide.
Ocean Path is a great little walk, just keep in mind it follows next to the road so your experience may be a little tainted by the passing cars. Still beautiful views of the water! Plus there's Thunder Hole and if you haven't seen that, it's worth a stop.
Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse was also pretty busy and overall not really worth stopping through unless you're a diehard lighthouse hunter.
Schoodic Point was really impressive, despite it being covered in fog, but honestly that just added to the appeal of the area.
But the highlight of this trip, was the oddity that is called Nervous Nellies. You have to see it to believe it!

Great video - our grandparents used to take us during the 50s/60s - then we would visit them at their house in Brookline Maine and drive to Cadillac Mountain first (no charge in the 70s/80s - go to the village, and I have pictures (printed) of our kids at Scootic Point - Sand Beach was fun too. We we eat lunch on top of rocks at Mount Cadillac. Our grandparents were the best. We have video that our grandfather too on 8mm of all most of those places and that area including Dear Isle - lots of stories. Thanks for a great look at what it's like there now. 👍

Found your channel while looking for info on Acadia NP. We are hoping to revisit (last time was 14yrs ago) in the fall. Subscribed to your channel to get your information on other dog friendly locations to visit. We like quiet too. Thanks for your perspective!

Hey Sandy! We hiked up the Schoodic Head Trail to Schoodic Head (where it was all foggy!). Hopefully you are rewarded with better views than we were. Safe travels!!

You know what's dog friendly? Little Long Pond. It's isn't Acadia, it's Land and Garden Trust land, Seal Harbor, and it's many miles around mostly intended for dogs, (except for the David and Neva trail) there's even steps for dogs to take a dip. Down the carriage road there's the famous cobblestone bridge.

Hey. How much time would you give to exploring Schoodic Peninsula? A whole day or just an afternoon? Thanks!

We think you could easily give this a day. There's a museum down there (Schoodic Institute) that we didn't get to see while we were there, but they're supposed to have pretty grounds to walk on. And along with the trail up to the summit, it would be a great day!

Question for you… when you talked about the Jordan Pond loop trail, you said get there “early”. What time is “early” for you? What time should we get there?

Hey Suzi! I feel like we got on the trail between 7:30 and 8:00. It was a perfect time to be there because as you're ending the loop, it starts to pick up in traffic. Enjoy!!!

SSSSSHHHH, first rule don't talk about Hadley point. Its a secret. we been tent camping there for more than a decade. up there more than a dozen times, did schoodic once as its a bit of a drive. was there in 21 and it was so so much more busier than I ever saw. tons of hiking trails, last year I park at the Sir De Mont Springs and hiked up Cadillac from three and camped down the gorge trail. Packed a lunch and ate at the top. for less people hit the other "claw" , down rt 198, the Beach mountain side, and don t forget the rocker roads and bridges again early early will get you less people and a parking spot. the run and ladder trails are amazing, you are missing a lot there Sir De Mont Springs ( not correct spelling) has a ton of short and super interesting trails that lead up Dor mountain ( short but a bit steep) with amazing views and construction. about 6 to choose from go up one come down another or like me do them all. Also, a nice quiet board walk , the jessup path( great for that light rain day.) there a ton of hikes there, parking is the big problem or you can use the buses as well.

Totally, in a positive way. Crowds would be fine if they would treat the place as a sanctuary, shut up have some appreciation. But they don't.
