There are a few things that you should not say during a doctoral program interview. Here are some:
You are doing the degree to go into consulting or to teach. Both are viable options, but you are misunderstanding what a doctoral program is about.
You think that the institution is below you. Any institution is suitable - you don’t have a doctorate yet.
You are uninterested in reading or doing research.
You think research idea blank is invalid or silly.
You do not want to publish in the best journals possible. You just want to get by and retire.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.

True story: Worst bombing of an interview I did was at USC's Rossier PhD in Education program. They explained how the program came with 100% scholarship and $32k stipend, but then told me I had to sign a contract guaranteeing I wouldn't have a job during the program. I told them I had a family and a mortgage that cost a little more than $32k. I think I was seated less than 5 minutes. Lol

But if you want to teach in social sciences/humanities/etc, there is absolutely no way to teach without a PhD. So is it really not a necessary and appropriate part of a goal to teach at a university?

My question too. In my country, having a PhD is an added advantage to secure a teaching position at a university.

I disagree with you on good teachers and good teaching. Being a good researcher does not make you a good communicator and be able to explain things from multiple perspectives to different audiences.

my interview is on 20th December. i REALLY REALL want this PhD scholarship its my life's dream and i want to be the best researcher and make good name of my family. i already invested in working as research assistant for two years now just to win such PhD, to gain experience that may get me a good scholarship like this one. i got the call but i am not a good communicator i can not explain like without stuttering like i dont have th flow of speech, how will i tell them i really loved the program and project. i even want to stick to thier prestigious laboratory (QS 150-200 ranked) even after PhD as post doc fellow. thats how it matches to my interest of genomics. i sleep with thoughts of being in the interview and wake up with thoughts of telling them my about my work and how i fit. I made the presentation. now i when i rehearse it i dont have the flow of speach. :( if i memories my script then it will feel bad a news caster speech. i am talking too much i know

Think of it this way. Do you want to commit to working with someone for 3 to 4 years who is completely antisocial and spends his spare time practicing hand seals for his ninjutsu?

You could say the same thing about engineers, medical persons, lawyers, choosing to relay information of their field to a wider audience in an accessible way. This can be a great service to others. A mutually-beneficial relationship. Did neil degrass Tyson have the largest contribution to physics research as possible? Probably not. Has he brought more kids into physics (that go on to do research) than most everyone else? Probably
